Tara Swart, a neuroscientist, spent years studying a discovery... that changes how we understand perception: your brain doesn't simply receive reality, it predicts it. Your brain builds a model of what it expects based on past experiences, then compares incoming sensory information to that model. If the information matches, it feels like reality. If it doesn't, the brain often distorts or ignores it. This process is called predictive processing. In other words, you're living through a forecast before you're living through reality. The implication is profound. Your experience of the world isn't the world itself, it's your nervous system's prediction of it. If your brain learned the world is unsafe, you'll constantly notice threats. If it learned you're capable, you'll naturally notice opportunities. The environment may be the same. The prediction is different, so the experience is different. Swart explains this process is driven by the default mode network and the brain's reward-prediction system. Together, they create the mental forecast you live by. That forecast becomes self-fulfilling because your behavior follows your expectations. Expect rejection, and you'll interpret neutral situations as rejection. You withdraw. Others respond to your distance. You feel rejected. The brain calls it accurate perception, but neurologically it was a prediction creating evidence for itself. Here's the key insight: changing the outside world isn't enough. Real change happens when you update the prediction your nervous system is running. First, the existing prediction must quiet down so the brain can recognize something new. things i stopped doing ever since i realized our... subconscious mind is no joke: 1. stopped believing everything on the internet emotionally charged information grabs attention and sticks in memory, making persuasive content feel more convincing than it really is. whenever i see content that isn't helping me become the person i want to be, i block it, tap "not interested," and train my algorithm instead of letting it train me. just because someone says something with conviction doesn't always make it universally true. 2. stopped identifying with what i didn't want psychologist daniel wegner's ironic process theory shows that the harder you try not to think about or do something, the more likely it is to come back. instead of saying, "don't be anxious," or "don't relapse," i focused on the behavior i wanted instead. i focused on where i wanted to go in life rather than where i didn't want to go. 3. stopped neglecting stress long term stress raises cortisol, making it harder to think clearly, regulate emotions, and make good decisions. motivation isn't enough. i had to calm my nervous system first. relaxation became a requirement. 4. stopped listening to music without intention repetition strengthens neural pathways, and emotional experiences are remembered more easily. when lyrics are paired with a catchy melody, they become easier to remember and reinforce through repetition. so i chose music that supported the person i wanted to become. 5. stopped thinking catastrophically the brain constantly filters information and prioritizes what it expects to find. when i expected problems, i noticed more problems. when i started expecting opportunities, i noticed more opportunities. changing your expectations changes what your brain pays attention to.show more

PHOTON COUNTING CT AND A NEW CONCEPT OF NORMAL... CORONARY ARTERIES For more than 2 decades we have been performing Cardiac CT with constant improvements in all parameters (spatial, temporal and contrast resolution). The improvements were progressive in certain fields and steep in other (e.g.: the introduction of Dual Source CT that completely changed the range of temporal resolution achievable basically overnight and still is the most important source of flexibility in Cardiac CT scanning after almost 20 years). Spatial resolution instead was improved in a slow and progressive way until the test EID CT generations that achieved a spatial resolution of 250 microns. This allowed us to assess a coronary artery tree and define it as normal when no apprentice changes were visibile up to that value. But we know that the normal thickness of coronary artery walls is quite below that threshold. It is more in the range of 80-200 microns. Therefore, the very early changes in coronary artery wall thickness could not be picked up by EID CT technology. With the introduction of PCCT we can constantly achieve 100 microns spatial resolution which means that we work extol in range in which coronary artery disease starts. It also means that we don't see any thickening of the the coronary artery walls we have a much higher specificity and reliability. This concept is a transformative one because it allows us to shift earlier and earlier the beginning of atherosclerosis in our patients and think even more precisely in terms of cardiovascular prevention and monitoring. PCCT is a NEW Imaging Modality. PCCT is changing the game, the field, the language, the priorities and in the end it will change the entire infrastructure of diagnostic medicine.
