This morning, I conducted an unannounced inspection at Queens... College, Yaba, Lagos, to assess its current infrastructure, leadership, and the welfare of the students. Upon my arrival at 7:45 AM, I was pleased to see the majority of students lining up for assembly, with both the academic and non-academic staff, including the principal, already present and ready to begin the school day. During my visit, I held separate discussions with students, teachers, and the principal to better understand their challenges and needs. It is clear that the school requires significant infrastructural improvements to adequately and safely accommodate its students and staff. Queens College, established almost 100 years ago, has long surpassed its original capacity. To ensure that our students benefit from an appropriate student-to-teacher ratio, sufficient resources, and adequate facilities for boarding and feeding, we must maintain a standard capacity across all Unity Schools and Federal Government Colleges. In line with our commitment to promoting quality assurance in education, the Federal Ministry of Education will collaborate with Principal Obabori and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to redesign, refurbish, and build new facilities at Queens College, including a library, dining areas, hostels, and classrooms. Over the next several months, I will be conducting unannounced visits to other Unity Schools and Federal Colleges. Today 10/06/2026, after so much efforts from Individuals and... groups, INEC finally came to Uniport, but the DEAN STUDENTS AFFAIRS sent his boys to threaten the INEC official (Woman), that if she returns to Uniport (Delta Campus), tomorrow 11/06/2026, to continue with the CVR, her equipments will be destroyed and she’d be dealt with⚠️‼️ According to the boys, INEC has not taken permission from the DSA! So they can’t be in school registering students for PVC. Police, however, grilled the college admin for not informing about the event. OAU transport system was near perfect, adequate buses and... bikes, we rarely experienced queues until the First Lady came and decided she didn’t like the ease of transportation and introduced “change” by donating CNG buses. The school management in turn banned all motorcycles and commercial buses on campus and subjected over 30,000 students to just about 50 buses and a few tricycles. OAU has one of the largest land masses of any Nigerian university, yet students are now stranded daily. This is a Monday morning where students are supposed to rush for class, but they are stuck at the campus gate because of the inefficiency of the CNG buses. Students are struggling to go to class in the morning and in the evenings to even get back to their hostels. Students staying off campus now spend almost double to get to campus, all alternative transport means have been removed The management have cars to bypass all of this, but majority of students do not. Yet they released statements talking about how the buses will “ease transportation” and even implied students appreciate the system. Meanwhile, students are trekking, missing classes, and spending hours in queues. Let it be clear that students do not appreciate this system. It has made our lives harder, not better. What used to be a smooth system has now become a daily struggle. There are many pressing issues in this school, but they chose to dismantle a working transport system and replace it with hardship. We can no longer remain silent. Let the whole world know what OAU students are going through. I travelled with public transport this evening and met... a group of CPUT students. Our journey took us to all the way to District Six, and I got some insight into their world. I was impressed with their study choices such as civil engineering and accounting. Some hope to become entrepreneurs. The students shared that NSFAS was supporting their studies. Beyond fees, they are also provided with residence fees, books, food and a travel allowance. They however need laptops. They did tell me they are in dire need of laptops for their studies. The energy, passion and optimism of these young South Africans was inspiring.show more

DU students allege that professors were appointed a month after the commencement of the semester due to which the syllabus is pending and exam forms have been issued 10 days before the exams starting on December 26, which have several flaws. The students’ unions of all three law faculties, CLC, LC1 and LC2, urged the deans to extend the exam dates but the deans stuck to the pre-scheduled dates. Yesterday on December 16, a protest was started by the students which continued throughout the day and it was peaceful, but the Dean deployed Delhi Police and CRPF to remove the students from the faculty, due to which there was chaos between the law students and the police and the matter became serious. The DU administration issued a notification stating that "The Date Sheet relating to LL.B. I/III/V Term December/January, 2024 Examination scheduled from 26th December, 2024 is put-on hold." However, the students remained adamant on their demand to postpone the examination schedule. Later, the police broke the entry gates of the campus and started lathicharge in which some students were injured. It is a matter of concern that law students were treated like rioters. The Revanth Reddy government is jeopardising the future of nearly 40 lakh students across the state. With around ₹15,000 crore in fee reimbursement dues still pending, students are unable to obtain their certificates and are being deprived of opportunities for higher education and employment. Nearly three years after Congress came to power, its Six Guarantees remain as unfulfilled promises. The ₹5 lakh “Vidya Bharosa Card” promised to students has disappeared without a trace, while the promise of free electric scooters for college-going women students has also been put on the back burner. The confrontation comes amid growing resentment over the Islamic Republic providing Iraqi students with scholarships and other educational benefits while Iranian students face severe economic pressure and deteriorating conditions at home. Part of that anger is driven by the Islamic Republic’s deep relationship with Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). PMF-linked educational programs send members to Iranian universities, and Iraqi “students” with connections to Iran-backed militias have become a growing source of suspicion on campuses. PMF-linked individuals are also used to monitor students and activities inside Iranian universities, further blurring the line between education and the Islamic Republic’s security and proxy networks. Tensions have been building for some time, including previous confrontations involving Iraqi students at Iranian universities.
