Mars, we're coming for you! 🔴 🛰️ 🛰️ Soon,... our twin Explorer spacecraft built for NASA & Space Sciences Laboratory ESCAPADE mission will begin their journey to the Red Planet to study the history of its climate. The mission will study how the solar wind interacts with Mars’ magnetic environment and how this interaction drives the planet’s atmospheric escape, revealing how Mars changed from warm and wet to the cold, dry world we see today. By flying two spacecraft in different orbits around Mars, ESCAPADE will get a dual viewpoint to solve the mystery of Mars' atmospheric escape. It’s a low-cost mission delivering high-impact science.show more

seeing the earth from space is absolutely life changing.... my mission, Inspiration4, was the first all-civilian orbital space mission. it was a new beginning — opening up space exploration to more and more people. I hope that you all will be able to experience these views for yourself someday, but if you prefer staying on Earth, please enjoy my videos 🚀show more

Every space mission begins long before launch day. Ideas... become spacecraft. Thousands of decisions are made before a single engine ignites. The European Space Agency (ESA) knows what that journey looks like. As the agency prepares to increase the missions it supports by 2030, it is laying the groundwork for decades of future exploration. Working with Canonical, ESA is building a common platform for mission operations based on open source. Kubernetes, Ceph, PostgreSQL, and Kafka form ESA’s infrastructure foundation. 🚨 NASA JUST TESTED A THRUSTER POWERFUL ENOUGH FOR... HUMAN MISSIONS TO MARS. Engineers have successfully fired a next-generation electric propulsion system that hit a new U.S. record of 120 kilowatts roughly 25 times more powerful than the thrusters currently flying on the Psyche spacecraft. Instead of using xenon gas like traditional ion engines, this experimental design runs on lithium metal vapor. The result? Dramatically higher efficiency and thrust while using up to 90% less fuel than chemical rockets. Why this matters: Electric propulsion doesn’t blast off like a rocket it provides gentle, continuous acceleration over months or years. That means spacecraft can reach much higher final speeds with far less propellant, making long-duration human missions to Mars far more practical. The deeper implication is staggering: We may finally be moving beyond the chemical rocket era. Future Mars ships could accelerate steadily for half the journey, flip around, and decelerate for the other half cutting travel time while carrying more crew and cargo. This is the kind of propulsion technology that turns the Solar System into humanity’s backyard. What happens when we have reliable megawatt-class electric thrusters flying to Mars? Kryptonite may weaken Superman, but real‑life krypton fuel is... giving our electric propulsion thrusters a “super” boost! NASA Glenn engineers tested two 12‑kilowatt HERMeS Hall thrusters running side by side — the same type set to take the Space Reactor‑1 Freedom spacecraft to Mars. Instead of traditional xenon, the thrusters ran on krypton, which is more cost-effective for long-duration journeys but can be tougher on hardware. Researchers studied their performance and how quickly their parts wore down. They found that Glenn’s magnetic shielding technology reduced wear-and-tear significantly, giving krypton-fueled thrusters the lifetime needed for round-trip Mars missions. As the thrusters were moved closer together, they continued to operate smoothly — a major step forward for future NASA electric propulsion spacecraft. More:show more
