Saturday 30th May NAP OF THE DAY 🏇💥 Catterick... 15:35 - Zephyln 11/2 Zephyln won this race last year off of 63 and is 5lb better off this year just 58, he did the double in 25 at the course and distance in May and looks the value tomorrow. He ran a great race over jumps last time out in a competitive race outrunning his 33/1 odds at Perth and i think he is in just as good form as last year. His efforts on the flat since have been on the all weather and his mark is competitive again. I would prefer a stronger jockey than Greg Fairley who doesnt have a great overall record but fingers crossed he can get the horse home for the team and the odds still represent value with him in the plate. While many around the league don’t expect any linebackers... to be drafted tonight, if there is one, it certainly could be #TexasAM’s Edgerrin Cooper. Cooper is the most complete LB in the 2024 draft class. He’s shown to be: 1️⃣an elite athlete 2️⃣a consistent and impactful run defender 3️⃣a capable and efficient blitzer, and 4️⃣able to use his size and bend to disrupt in pass protection As a run defender, he finished with an 87.6 PFF grade, highest among any expected draft linebackers in this year’s draft class. That includes 15 TFLs or no gain plays. As you can see (🎥), his downhill force plus balance and control allows him to consistently win in the run game As a pass rusher, he had 7 sacks on the year, 4 of which came from playing on the line of scrimmage. When lined up on the line of scrimmage, he generated a pressure on over 30% of his pass rush snaps. Elite ‼️ And in coverage, he finished with a top-10 coverage grade int eh country last season (per PFF College) among LBs lined up in the box. He’s able to use his length and bend, along with developed vision and timing to disrupt plays from the box. Couple all of that with a 4.51 forty time and would-be impressive athletic testing numbers if he was 100% for the draft process (why he wasn’t able to officially go every day in practice at East-West Shrine Bowl), and it’s hard to ignore his NFL starting potential. Not just saying this coz cr7's stans are hilariously... triggered and running maliciously edited agendas on here - this is just a pure truth nuke: When you actually watch them both play across dozens of full games, Henry in his prime years was generally more unstoppable, more unpredictable, more dominant, more threatening, and more capable of carrying lesser teammates. It's fairly obvious too tbh Cr7 is clearly an all timer of course (nowhere near goat tho), has his own advantages (technical consistency in certain actions/areas, predatory goal-scoring), and deserves a bigger legacy due to immense longevity, skillset, adaptability, records - but he has also benefited massively from selfish main character syndrome + spending his prime stat-padding in two of the most expensive, dominant super teams ever - not to mention the 2 biggest global brands. After Penaldo (+Tevez) left and were replaced inadequately, Utd got a bit worse. Yet they still won more leagues, and got to another CL final shortly after. Real Madrid kept churning big titles no problem. After Henry left, Arsenal went 20+ years without sniffing the same heights. Of course Henry leaving is not the only, or even biggest reason for that - but it is indicative of the environments they operated in. Henry carried Arsenal to their 2 biggest milestones - the invincibles+06 CL final run - far more than Ronaldo has ever carried anything Both at their best, Henry makes you a bit more likely to win football matches in most scenarios. Virtually every defender who played against both around their primes, says Henry was better/tougher, and the tape backs it up. In 1913, the newspaper’s offices moved to 229 43rd Street, and the building was renamed 1 Times Square in 1961. History of Times Square, at the beginning of the 20th century, Times Square became one of the most important places in New York City, with the construction of theaters, restaurants and luxury and first class hotels. The site began to change in the 30’s where it became a dangerous place with prostitution, crime and drugs, this lasted for more than half a century. History of Times Square During the 1980s, Mayors Ed Koch and David Dinkins began a redevelopment project for Midtown Manhattan that included Times Square. In the 1990s, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani tackled the project to clean up the area with the closure of pornographic theaters, sex shops and the purchase of the nine historic theaters on 42nd Street by the State of New York. From a sheer stuff standpoint, RHP Cam Leiter (FSU... Baseball) has one of the loudest arsenals in this year's Draft class. Was a member of the AAC All-Freshman team selection in 2023 after posting a 4.92 ERA with 80 Ks across 56.2 IP. Leiter's first season at FSU was cut short due to injury, though he showed big time flashes in his 7 starts (35 innings). Worked a 4.63 ERA with 56 Ks to 22 BB. Leiter has a high-waisted, prototypical pitcher's frame at 6'5" and 234-pounds. Has added physicality year-over-year. Compact and explosive delivery with big time arm speed. Attacks from a three-quarter slot with a low release height. Dynamic mover, blocks well with his lead leg and really drives his back hip through. Powerful! Fastball sits in the 94-96 range, but has been up to 99. Jumps out of the hand from his ~5'10" release height and flashes riding life through the zone. Plays up—and is at its best—when located in the top-half of the zone. Also where it gets the most whiffs, and last year it generated a 30% miss rate. Improved command of the offering will make it that much more effective. 55 right now. His most used breaking ball is a high-70s-to-low-80s CB. Plenty of depth with sharp, downward teeth. Almost a true 12-to-6 shape. Will use it against both right and lefthanded hitters, and last year it held opposing hitters to a minuscule .071 average. Generated an impressive 46% miss rate, it's a 60 right now. Leiter's upper-80s-to-low-90s power SL is another effective off-speed offering. Late lateral tilt with some depth, will throw it almost exclusively to RHH. Another pitch that flashes plus, and last year it garnered a 38% miss rate. He threw it just 11% of the time in '24, but Leiter also features an upper-80s-to-low-90s CH. Ample fade to the arm side, though at times it will have more tumbling life than fade. Not to sound like a broken record, but Leiter's CH also flashes plus. 44% miss rate last season. Throws it with conviction. If you catch Leiter on the right day, you could leave the yard with a 55 and three 60s on his pitch mix. The two biggest keys for Leiter will be taking a step forward in the pitchability department—which in turn will make his arsenal that much better—and staying healthy. Self organisation is for LAZY coaches! Elite coaches should... verbalise all of the nuances of detail to maximise the performance of their athletes. Video analysis should provide you with all of the granular data so that you can make minute analysis and provide the most specific cues for each step in the sprint. 🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥 At the end of last the summer I reached to Frans Bosch to bug him on all things sprinting. It’s been 3/4 years since we had spoken last so it was very refreshing to talk about what I had been witnessing whilst analysing footballers. Somethings that I learnt from him over a decade ago and have consistently used to maximise speed skills. 1) “take the arms out of the running cycle and the body will need to self organise in order to avoid over rotation and thus keep the abdominals in the sweet spot” 2) “Run bouncy with excellent co contractions between hip, knee and ankle will keep the hamstring in the sweet spot, reducing strain” 3) “Stabilise running technique by clarifying how to PROJECT , SWITCH AND REACT (PSR) over increasing amounts of velocity, vectors and variations of instability” 🔬🔬🔬🔬🔬🔬🔬🔬🔬🔬🔬 I took the concept of PSR directly from the heuristics of dpfaff 15 years ago. A man who gives and gives and gives and gives some more. Dan let me bug him for months, write my thesis on him, then I got to stalk him daily for 3 years in the build up to the 2012 Olympics. Coaching the PSR pillers became a very helpful way of reducing the clutter of technical jargon and degrees of freedom. Ancient Theatre of Taormina (Teatro antico di Taormina), an... ancient Greek Theatre in Taormina, Sicily, Italy. It was initially built by Greeks in 3rd Century BC, before being rebuilt and enlarged by the Romans. While known as an amphitheatre, the site is actually an ancient theatre, not the gladiatorial arena of the type normally meant by the term. As well as being a major draw for tourists to the city, today the theatre continues to be used for concerts, plays and other events. Ancient Greeks inhabited Sicily from 750 BC, establishing many significant settlements on the island to make use of Sicily’s fertile soil and advantageous trading location. Around the 3rd Century BC, at the time of Hiero II, Greeks dug directly into the hard rock of Mount Taro to construct a theatre, removing around 100,00 cubic metres of rock. Large columns would have been hauled up the mountain by slaves to encircle the stage. Greek Theatre, was designed to accommodate dramatic or musical performances and so included an orchestra at the lowest levels of the theatre and a large scene where actors or dancers would perform. The cavea or auditorium steps and seats, were designed so all 5400 spectators could hear wherever they sat. Later, under Roman rule, the theatre was rebuilt, probably around the time of Hadrian or Trajan. It was remodelled in the 3rd Century AD, with the orchestra turned into an arena and stage removed. Theatre had a diameter of 107m and could hold around 10,000 spectators. It become one of oldest theatres in Magna Graeca to have curved cavea, rather than the older trapezoidal design. The cavea were divided into 9 sections. On either side of the skene was a basilica. Taormina’s theatre became part of the natural landscape; the light and splendid Calabrian coastal scenery providing a natural backdrop to performances. Remains of another Hellenistic building have been found under the Roman cavea. After Punic Wars, Romans annexed Sicily, forcing out Carthaginians. While Sicily remained largely Greek culturally, the Roman settlers expanded the theatre and shifted its function to reflect Roman entertainment; gladiatorial games. Romans expanded the orchestra, as well as adding columns, statues and covers. During Middle Ages, the grand Corinthian style columns were removed to adorn palaces and places of worship, including the Cathedral. Today, over 2 millennia later, the Taormina Amphitheatre remains a social space for watching performances. Today, theatre is used as a venue for the annual arts festival Taormina Arte, other entertainment offered includes theatre, concerts, symphonies, operas, ballets and the David di Donatell awards have all been held within the ancient auditorium. The modern seating has had a mixed response, but allows this fantastic site that has weathered the ravages of time to continue functioning as was originally intended. Be aware the site is not very accessible for those who cannot climb easily.
