#VCFD along with our partners at Ventura City Fire,... Oxnard Fire and Santa Paula PD responded to a working structure fire in Santa Paula this morning. Arriving crews were met with heavy smoke and flames showing from the residence with reports of a victim trapped. FFs conducted a rapid and aggressive primary search to locate the victim who was ultimately discovered to have escaped on her own. 2 patients were treated for minor injuries and transported to an area hospital. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.show more

Resources made some good progess on building an initial anchor point to build off of for future shifts. Air support helped with bucket drops until weather picked up and were unable to continue in the afternoon. The fire is located in Buck Basin 4 to 5 miles northwest of the Currant Creek Reservoir. Red Creek Mountain Road FS080 and Low Pass Road FS106 are closed to the public at this time. Resources on scene: two engines, two Type 2 crews, two Type 1 helicopters, scoopers, water tender and a grader will be assisting the operations today. The cause of the fire has been determined as lightning. Crews were in the area today working on the northern section of the fire. At this time, there are no reported threats to structures or communities. Smoke is visible from Highway 35 and 40 and surrounding area please do not report.show more

At 9:52 a.m. Saturday, the FDNY received a report... of a fire at 132-17 41st Road in Queens. Upon arrival, units encountered two buildings fully involved in fire with extension to a third building. "Our engine companies moved in with multiple handlines in all of these buildings—very aggressively, very deliberately," Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods said. "Many lives are saved by the proper positioning of hoselines." With a report of people trapped, members from Rescue 4 got above the fire on the second floor of the main fire building and rescued an occupant. They made the rescue under high heat and in zero visibility without the protection of a hoseline. There was a total of 21 injuries—17 firefighters and two EMS members suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Two civilians were also injured and transported to area hospitals. More than 250 firefighters and EMS members responded to the 5-alarm fire, which was placed under control at 1:47 p.m. The cause remains under investigation.show more

In Idaho, a sniper set a trap for firefighters:... he started a wildfire, then opened fire on the first responders On the afternoon of June 29, firefighters in Kootenai County received a report of a wildfire near Canfield Mountain, north of Coeur d’Alene. Around 1:30 p.m., crews arrived at the scene — but just half an hour later, local police were alerted to gunfire. When officers arrived, they found the bodies of two firefighters with gunshot wounds. Another was critically injured. The rescuers had walked into an ambush — the attacker, a man, deliberately set the forest on fire and then opened fire on the first responders. According to local media, a shootout with the suspect lasted several hours. Once the gunfire stopped, the shooter’s body was found in the woods. A rifle was discovered nearby. Meanwhile, the wildfire spread further. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert — due to the delay, the fire has not yet been contained. Just before 12:30 Monday afternoon, the FDNY responded to... a 4-alarm fire at 44-49 College Point Boulevard in Queens. Tragically, four people lost their lives in this fire. Two other victims were transported to area hospitals in critical condition. During operations, a stairwell collapsed, trapping two of our members. They were transported to area hospitals in stable condition. More than 230 firefighters and EMS personnel responded. “This is a difficult and tragic day. There were several victims in this fire. The Fire Department did an extraordinary job under difficult circumstances, putting this fire out and saving people. I can't thank them enough for their continued efforts and commitment to life safety,” said Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore. “Upon arrival, we had heavy fire on all three floors of this building. There was a victim trapped on the second floor, which our members removed with a portable ladder. As our engine companies were moving in from the first floor and up the stairs to the second floor, the stairs collapsed, and those two members were trapped in the stairs. With additional help, we were able to extricate those members. As all that is happening, other members are performing CPR on the victims in the street,” said Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods.
