On February 19 at 5:03 p.m., Colorado Springs Police and Colorado Springs Firefighters responded to Prospect Lake after reports that a vehicle had gone into the water. What happened next was an extraordinary display of teamwork and courage. This video, captured by Drone as a First Responder, shows CSPD officers immediately entering the freezing lake. Seconds later CSFD firefighters joined them. Together, they pulled an unconscious adult male from the vehicle and continued searching the submerged car after reports that a child might also be inside. Dive teams and multiple units responded, and several ambulances were called to warm first responders exposed to the extreme cold. Two firefighters and two officers were transported with minor injuries and hypothermia. All first responders have been released from the hospital. The rescued individual remains in critical condition. This incident shows the strength of the partnership between CSFD and CSPD. Their coordination, trust, and willingness to risk everything for others are unmatched. Their instinct is always the same: protect life. #UPDATE: CSFD Fire Investigators responded on Monday to the Marksheffel Rd. Fire and have determined that the cause of this fire was accidental likely due to dragging chains from a vehicle. As of Monday, March 11th at 1:30 pm the fire is at 640 acres with 90% containment. One CSFD brush truck will remain at the fire scene to patrol for hotspots. Fire crews are confident that the containment line will hold. The CSFD would like to extend its gratitude to the regional agencies who quickly responded to assist with fighting this fire and thank them for their continued partnership. 🎥: CSFD Special Operations Unit Drone
