Five observations from Day 8 of #Bengals camp: 1.... Joe Burrow was cooking. Deep balls, off-platform throws, narrow window dimes. It was impressive. “Today was the best I’ve thrown the ball I felt like,” Joe said. “It’s getting better every day. I’m figuring things out as we go.”show more

Dexter Lawrence to Joe Burrow at the start of practice: “I wanna see it today Mr. Burrow.” Joe’s response: “You can see it every day brother” I asked Dexter about that exchange after practice. “Somebody has to challenge the King of the Jungle as they say,” said Lawrence. “Somebody has to keep him on edge in order for him to get better and grow. That competitive spirit won’t stop. And with a guy like that, I know he’s going to bring it. It’s going to be fun.”show more

Bonus #Bengals video clip: I didn’t include this in... my 5 observations because I didn’t quite nail the camerawork, but this Burrow to Chase pass was absurd. The window for Joe’s throw was minuscule, and Ja’Marr’s footwork to stay in bounds was balletic. They never cease to amaze.show more

Five observations from Day 9 of #Bengals camp: 1.... Right tackle Trent Brown was cleared to practice today but spent one more day on the rehab field (tossing a 50-pound bag among other things). Look for him to be in uniform and taking part in football activities tomorrow.show more

Five observations from Day 12 of #Bengals camp: 1.... Former Pro Bowl QB Jeff Blake attended practice. Blake is currently the Director of the QB Academy at IMG and he enjoys watching Joe Burrow. “He’s got a tight throwing motion, really good mechanics, generates a lot of power in his throws, and he’s really accurate,” said Blake. “He was blessed to have the opportunity to take this team to a Super Bowl, and he’s young enough to do it again.”show more

Dohnte Meyers... has gone from being a fun story to a player who has a chance to make a big contribution on offense and special teams. “He’s earned his way, that’s for sure,” said Zac Taylor. “He just continued to make plays over and over again. We weren’t dialing stuff up for him. That’s how you make it. When the opportunity comes your way, and the ball comes your way, you’ve got to make the most of it.”show more

After two strenuous days, the third practice was more of a walk-through as a precaution. “We’ve lost a lot of guys on the third day over the last couple of years and that’s every team,” said Zac Taylor. “Sometimes you can do everything you can possibly think of on that third day to limit it and you’re still going to have issues.”show more

Five observations from Day 5 of #Bengals training camp.... 1. Rookie Colbie Young had a terrific day with a ladder-climbing catch on the sideline and a red zone TD on throws from Joe Flacco. “I think I’m one of the luckiest receivers to get drafted,” said Young. “I’ve got two Hall of Famers in front of me who I get to learn from. I’m not rushed into a system where I’ve got to perform right now. But when my number is called, I’ve got to be ready to perform.”show more

Notes from today's #Bengals practice, another solid showing from... the rebuilt defense. -Play of the day goes to Bryan Cook, stepping in front of an anticipation in-breaker from Burrow to Mitch Tinsley. Great read, veteran play. 📽️⬇️ DJ Ivey was thrust in with the first team with Dax Hill scaled back today. He showed well, including a great PBU on a deep ball left one-on-one with Tee Higgins. -Bengals DL continues to make Burrow and company uncomfortable. Not as rough as yesterday, but those guys are just a load right now. -Two days in a row now with a splash play by Colbie Young. Confidence is growing in the rookie. -Dohnte Meyers shows up every day. -Deep cut: A few particularly nice reps in 1-on-1 work for UDFA Corey Robinson II. -Burrow off a bit today. Missed on a couple deep balls and got sniped by Cook for the INT. -A number of Reds in attendance, including Sal Stewart, who was in his Ja'Marr Chase jersey and exchanged his jersey with Chase after they all chatted for a while. -More plays and analysis coming on The Athletic blog and Growler recap show.show more

Imagine being a QB when Dexter Lawrence comes charging at you for a strip sack. “I remember watching him walk by my locker in his towel and he was doing hand combat on his way to the shower,” said Andrei Iosivas. “That’s a guy that I want on my team.”show more
