There is a hotel in the southern United States... that employs a man whose official job title is Duckmaster. The position exists nowhere else in the world. Twice a day he puts on a red and gold uniform, takes the elevator up to the rooftop, and walks five ducks down to the lobby. They march across a red carpet to a marble fountain in front of the guests, then swim there until evening. The tradition started in 1933 when the hotel’s manager came back from a duck hunting trip with too much whiskey in him and dumped his live decoys in the lobby fountain as a prank. Guests loved it. Unfortunately he won't take the room for 5 days... because as he puts it, it's not permanent and he believes he will be back on the streets afterwards as it's happened to him previously he tells me. I've tried my hardest to reassure him that I won't let that happen but he says he's been let down so many times before that he just doesn't believe it and is happy where he is until I can find him a permanent room in a shared house I've spoken with him long and hard over the last week and I've come to the conclusion based on everything he's told me and my research that he's not a British army veteran with a service number he talks of being a mercenary part of the 13 commandos part of the French foreign legion and has the cap badge on his hat. What I do know is he's a 59 year old man with health problems but no drug or alcohol problems that is living in a tent in wasteland. My level of support hasn't changed he shouldn't be in wasteland in a tent rotting away with no family no support in 2025 I'm going to try my hardest this week to secure a room in a shared house the 5 night stay at the guest house is non refundable but it is what it is I just wanted to make sure he woke up on his 60th birthday in a better place. Stanford researchers did it again. They just built the... agent-native version of Git. When an agent works on a longer task, the run builds up a lot of state. This includes files edited/created, a dev server, a database, installed packages, KV cache, etc. Say the agent is at step 10 and makes a mistake, maybe it misreads a traceback and rewrites a file that was actually fine. The tests start failing, and the run goes off track, although everything through step eight was correct. By default, the agent just tries to fix it, which creates more edits and tool calls. This burns more tokens and grows the context. The other options are a person stepping in to redirect it or restarting the whole run from step one. That's wasteful, because it pays for every model/tool call again and re-prefills the context. Moreover, since an agent's run is non-deterministic, it doesn't reproduce the same early steps anyway. The reason it's hard to just jump back exactly to a previous correct step and resume from there is that the trajectory is only a message log. It records what the agent said and which tools it called, but not the live state underneath. That state includes things like memory, open file handles, child processes, installed packages, /tmp, and KV cache. None of that is in the log. Git can version the files, but it doesn't snapshot the running process or the KV cache. Checking out step eight moves the files back, but the process is still sitting in step-ten memory with a cold cache. Shepherd is a runtime layer by Stanford that records the run as a trace of typed events rather than a flat log. Each agent-environment interaction becomes a commit, similar to Git, but it tracks the live run. Its commit includes the agent process and the filesystem together, copy-on-write, so a branch carries the actual state and not just the files. Going back to a previous step is then a single call that forks from that commit and continues from the exact state. The copy-on-write fork is roughly five times faster than docker commit, and because the prompt prefix through step eight is unchanged, the KV cache is reused over 95% on replay, so early steps aren't reprocessed again. Once the run can be forked, a meta-agent can sit on top and operate it. It watches the trace and reverts as soon as it looks wrong, before the bad write is committed. In practice, it's just Python calling fork, replay, and revert on the trace, rather than a separate control plane wired into the harness. Not everything is reversible though. Files and sandbox changes undo themselves, but a database write has no automatic undo, so it needs a matching undo step set up in advance. Something external, like a sent email or a real charge, can't be undone, so the supervisor's job there is to catch it before it fires. They tested this on a few public benchmarks. On CooperBench, where two agents work on the same codebase, adding a live supervisor took the pair-coding pass rate from 28.8% to 54.7%. It's still early and labeled alpha. The benefit mostly shows up when a run gets branched a lot over a heavy sandbox state, which is exactly where restarting wastes the most tokens and time. If Git was made to make file changes reversible, Shepherd is trying to do the same thing for a live agent run. Shepherd Repo: (don't forget to star it ⭐ ) That said, Shepherd reverts a bad step inside a run. The harness around it, the prompts, tools, and checks the supervisor relies on, still drifts across runs as models and dependencies change. The tracklisting for WAITING IN THE SKY (BEFORE THE STARMAN CAME TO EARTH) runs differently from the ZIGGY STARDUST album and features four songs that didn’t make the final album. On Side 1, in the place of ‘STARMAN’, one of the last three tracks recorded for the album in February 1972, is ‘ROUND AND ROUND’, a Chuck Berry cover. The track was finally released on a single as the B-side to ‘DRIVE-IN SATURDAY’ on 6th April, 1973. Initially, closing Side 1 of the album was Bowie's version of Jacques Brel’s ‘AMSTERDAM’, which would later appear as the B-side of ‘SORROW’ on 12th October, 1973. Side 2 of the 15th December, 1971 tracklisting features two long-time non-LP fan favourites, ‘HOLY HOLY’ and ‘VELVET GOLDMINE’. The former is a re-recording with The Spiders of David’s 1971 single. Again, this version of the track had to wait several years before surfacing as the B-side of ‘DIAMOND DOGS’ on 14th June, 1974. ‘VELVET GOLDMINE’ is considered by many to be a lost Ziggy era classic, one Bowie often referred to as ‘He’s A Goldmine’ or ‘She’s A Goldmine’ in his notebooks and interviews. The track was recorded during the Ziggy sessions but was not released until 26th September, 1975, alongside ‘CHANGES’ backing the re-released album version of ‘SPACE ODDITY’, which peaked at no. 1 in the U.K. singles chart in November 1975. As I listened to Adarniya Pradhan Mantri Shri Narendra... Modi ji's #MannKiBaat, I was thinking about how the fight against drugs cannot be a fragmented effort- it must be a national mission carried forward with equal resolve at the Centre and in every state. The numbers tell their own story- narcotics worth more than ₹3,253 crore seized, and over 26,500 offenders arrested since the campaign began. Arrests have climbed steadily each year, from 4,175 in 2021 to 4,901 in 2025- proving that this is not a one-time drive but a sustained, institutionalised war. Few weeks back, we publicly destroyed seized contraband worth ₹472+crore at Nalbari- driving home the message that what is seized will never re-enter the homes of any Assamese family. We have done this knowing full well the scale of the challenge. Assam sits on a difficult geography- a transit corridor for narcotics originating in Myanmar and routed through Mizoram and Manipur before moving deeper into the country. Kingpins often operate beyond our borders, which is precisely why this cannot be Assam's fight alone. This is where the Prime Minister's leadership and the Centre's unwavering support have made a real difference- intensified coordination with Myanmar, strengthened surveillance along inter-state borders, sharper intelligence sharing and deployment of technology that helps our forces intercept consignments before they spread further. Assam Police has not worked in isolation; it has worked as an extension of a national resolve to eliminate the menace of drugs. Prime Minister Modi ji has always said that addiction is neither cool nor a style statement; drugs bring only destruction and devastation to families and communities. Restaurants, cafes and bars - gone forever. They’re following the exit of long-established family businesses dropping like flies. Iconic clothing brands, manufacturing companies, and construction companies struggling to keep up with the increasing costs and declining consumer spending. Just a more amplified version of households busting to stay afloat, food, electricity, fuel, insurance and housing all running out of reach. People are hurting. The irony is that the only string holding up the false economy is the very thing causing the inflation that is destroying the real economy. Government spending. More specifically – government borrowing. Governments borrow printed money and spend it with the recklessness of a child buying gems to advance in a game on Mum’s iPhone. Using Mum’s credit card, without her knowing. Like the money isn’t real - and to them it isn’t. But it is to the rest of us who have to live in the real world, it really is. It’s just cruel. It’s one thing to borrow and invest in assets that provide returns, but using the credit card to buy skittles and beer normally comes with a hangover at some point. Welcome to the hangover. It’s as if Canberra has a giant black credit card with a tap and go facility. Mark Butler, the minister in charge of the NDIS has probably racked up the most loyalty points with the way he spends. All the rest is just a waste of money, and a betrayal of the Australian people. Albanese and his team are just feckless and reckless, and Chalmers clearly thinks that spending borrowed money is the economy. It isn’t. Because when borrowed money is created, it is created without the interest (nobody ever prints the interest). But the interest always falls due. All our money supply is printed fiat currency. It’s not backed by anything. But if you are one dollar short on an interest bill – your assets can fall into the hands of the lender. Printed money buys real assets, and real assets are lost on foreclosure, as insiders often swoop in for cents in the dollar. It’s like a giant asset laundering scheme. More is always owed than was minted in the first place, because interest must be paid. So, there must be losers – that much is baked into the game - and as more people lose, more people collapse and even more assets are pooled in the hands of fewer people… and there’s the rub – eventually it all falls into the hands of the money printers and their mates. The system must have been designed by an insane clown. The only way out of this mess is to get rid of this government debt and return to sound money. All government debt just inflates assets – and the cost to hold them. Everything else is just a sideshow. They want us fighting over the gender of a toothpick that never ceded ownership of its tutu, so we don’t look at the rapid collapse of everything in real time. THREAD: A Missouri woman is wanted for questioning in... connection to a fire that damaged, & in some areas destroyed, 4 businesses in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, a hot spot for tourists. Police believe the woman, Danielle Bertothy, is back in the U.S. after leaving the island following the fires. On the night of January 1st, a woman, believed to be Danielle, was seen on video, at Bar Marea. She appeared, to staff, to be intoxicated. After serving her two shots, they say they told her they would serve her no more. An argument took place shortly thereafter. Staff called police. According to the bar’s owner police escorted the woman to her AirBnb, which is across the street from the bar. The woman returned a short time later and got into another argument, according to the bar’s owner, who again called the police, and who again took the woman back to her AirBnb. The police stayed at the restaurant until it closed. Then, everyone went home. “Two hours later we got a call that everything was on fire,” the bar’s owner told me. There is surveillance video that shows a woman walking by one of the establishments with what appears to be a red plastic gasoline can. ** The owner of the Airbnb told me that due to the island wide blackout on December 31, a generator and a red gasoline plastic can (filed with extra fuel) were delivered to the home so that the Airbnb guest would be able to have power.*** The owner of the AirBnb rental identified Danielle Bertothy as being the woman who rented the home, checking in December 30. She was expected to check out January 11th. According to the AirBnb homes owner, Danielle left the AirBnb around 5am on January 2nd, roughly 5 hours after the fire was started. War has its own inexorable logic of progression: Ukraine’s next strikes, the real retaliatory strikes, will be even more massive and powerful than they were at the beginning of the year.
