Hello Hugh Thomas , let’s do it one by... one, sample by sample, stone by stone. Whenever an artificial stone recipe of mine reaches a certain stage that’s the results are comparable to the natural version I’ll send a cast sample to you (with its mold) to analyze. The first one could be this perfectly chiseled fake limestone cube. As you can see you can’t fit a razor blade between the stone and the cheap silicone mold from Temu. This proves my micro chiseling skills. The recipe is public, you don’t even need my cube, you could create your own - but you won’t. So I’ll send this cute cube to you. The “secret” recipe is: I started from wood ash lye, also called potash, or K2CO3, by slowly dripping water through hard wood ash. Hard wood ash from your fireplace, yeah. Then I added slaked lime, and the chemical reaction produced fine, molecular level CaCO3 particles, fine limestone floating in the liquid. FYI: the secret chemical reaction is, and was in the ancient times as well: K2CO3 + Ca(OH)2 = CaCO3 + 2KOH Yummy! Next step: I let the limestone particles settle, and poured the KOH, potassium hydroxide solution above (that also formed in the liquid, see above) into the kitchen sink as it is a very good drain cleaner indeed. I added water and poured it into the sink several times, trying to clean the slurry from the KOH. So yes, the cube is from almost pure limestone, CaCO3 - with some residual KOH contamination. The KOH contamination can be reduced infinitely, I just stopped after 4 rounds. (Pro tip: put the slurry into a filter bag and put the bag into a mountain creek for an hour.) The next step is filtering and pressing the remaining liquid from the slurry. Because it’s a wet mess at this point. Pressure is a key factor to success! At least one thing is accurate from the universal canon: no pressure-no stone. How do I know? By trying and failing a few (dozen) times. So I poured the white limestone slurry into a sock 🧦 and pressed and squeezed it by hand - and that was JUST enough pressure for the magic to happen 😮 It looks like nature/god is on our side, everything is working as it was designed this way. Then I put the almost dry limestone paste into this Temu mold. Fun fact: it still contains a lot of water which will eventually be pressed out as the crystallization progresses, so we’ll need to get rid of that water through a hole, a nub. But there is no hole 🕳️ on this Temu mold so I poured the excess liquid from the top a few times. Hardening time=drying time=crystallization time : 1 week. The important lesson I learned from this experience is as follows: I tried to understand why this sludge turned into hard stone, because, as we were told, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE, and my understanding is this: wood ash lye does two different magics in parallel for this to happen: 1. It magically contains the right kind of contamination to facilitate calcite crystal formation and 2. The incredibly high pH (remember, 2 molecules of KOH are produced from 1 molecule of K2CO3!) in the liquid boost the calcite formation even more. ———- My only request from you and your colleagues concerning this analysis is full, 100000% transparency. And be honest. I know something you clearly don’t: you have lost this battle already. We need the data fast, not in 4 years or something. Transparency means sharing whatever you find here on X, without scientific drama and pullbacks. We don’t need a 947 pages scientific paper. We need the results, the data only. BTW: I already know what you will find: a “special type of natural limestone” with some minimal potassium contamination🤣🤣🤣 Now feel free to DM me, let this scientific analysis happen! And this? This is the very first piece of... artificial limestone, YES, CaCO3, YES, hard as f and YES, waterproof, what I made from… Wood ash ONLY!!! 100% caveman tech! Now look at the color of this thing. How would you describe it? May I say it has the color of the pyramids? Hell yeah! Why? BTW: this is just the binder. Add original, natural limestone and fossils and you’ll en up with “natural” limestone. (With a bit of potassium residue.) Any questions? The secret recipe maybe? Anyone interested? Here you go: 1. Burn 🔥 everything around you and collect the wood ash 2. Burn natural limestone (calcination) to produce quick lime Steps 1. and 2. can be combined into one step. 3. Make wood ash lye the traditional way, by dripping drip 💧 water on wood ash and collecting the water that went through the ash. Any vessel will do but an oak barrel is the traditional way doing it. I used a plastic bucket with holes at the bottom. The wood ash lye is mostly KOH and K2CO3. What we need is CaCO3. We need to change the letter K to letters Ca. We’ll do it by adding the letters Ca to the liquid. 4. Add quick lime (CaO) or hydrated lime, slaked lime (Ca(OH)2) to the lye until it stops bubbling in vinegar. (We badly miss a decent video at this point, Marcell!!!) 5. Add (or don’t add) fossils = natural limestone rubble to the mix, stir well 6. Get rid of of the excess liquid through a nub Now any expert can tell you that this will never make a stone because of two reasons: 1. Billions of years and 2. High pressure are needed Well, no. The first point is just total nonsense, and although the second has something in it, it is false. Virtually ANY pressure will make it, including my current technique of squeezing it in a kitchen cloth. I’m not kidding. No pressure- no stone, that is correct. But only a minimal level of pressure, using my bare hands is enough to push the freshly made CaCO3 molecules close enough for crystallization (calcit) to begin. And here we are.show more

And finally! The Holy Grail! The Artificial Granite! Using... Caveman Resources Only! Oh, this was a painful and long development process! Just in time! I have almost deleted this chapter from my new book as this thing nearly missed the deadline! But luckily 🍀 Is there quartz in it? Yeees! A lot! In fact, as many as I want: I can mix aaanything into this material, including quartz grains. This “carved” granite ball is from South Africa, so some 10.000 kms away. It was carved there and shipped to Hungary - in a paper bag as a powder 🤣 Is it waterproof? Yes. Boiling proof? Yes. Acid proof? Yes. Alkali proof? Yes. Mohs scale: 6-7 Ideal to fool unsuspecting people. Ingredients: • Waterglass • “Secret ingredient” I’ll reveal later • Billion years old, natural granite powder • created on room temperature I also attached the video of the 20 minutes boiling test. (Explain this to me: why do we exactly expect the glass binder to fall apart in boiling water? Glass is glass.) Ah! Almost forgot! Do you need a nub to create it in large size? It depends. If you happen to build a wall from it, then… Absolutely! This mix releases so much water it’s unbelievable! You need to drain it or else you find your stone in a puddle. Bubbles 🫧? Glad you asked. Apparently, I saw this video online and I decided... to share. What this worker is applying is called bitumen, or what many of us know as bituminous coating. Most people think a wall is a solid, impenetrable block, but in reality, it is more like a sponge. Concrete and blocks have microscopic pores that pull water from the earth through a process we call capillary action. This thick black substance is the shield that stops that water from climbing up into the house. It is not about making the wall look good because this part will be buried under the dirt forever. It is about creating a skin that water cannot breathe through. When do you need to do this? The need for this arises because the soil is a very aggressive environment. Water is not your only enemy.. The ground also contains salts and sulfates that want to eat away at the cement. If this moisture finds its way to the steel bars inside the columns, those bars will start to rust. And when steel rusts, it expands, and that expansion is what cracks the concrete from the inside out. This coating is the only thing standing between your foundation and that kind of slow destruction. Thats is why if you see wet patches at the bottom of your walls inside your house, it usually means someone skipped this step or did it poorly during construction. You can apply this anytime you are building parts of a structure that will stay in contact with the ground. It is common in areas where the water table is high or where the soil stays damp for most of the year. This is a one-shot opportunity. Once you backfill the soil, you can never go back to fix it without a lot of expense and a lot of digging. It is about having the foresight to protect the heart of the building while it is still exposed. Please don’t ignore this if you need to. If you ignore it now to save a bit of money, you will be funding the future decay of your own home. I hope this helps.show more

One more secret before the pharaoh’s curse erases my... brain later today. This is my legacy for you to continue. Goodbye! Remember that year when I desperately tried to cast the ancient Egyptian “impossible ashtray” using countless tips and tricks and failed badly every single time? The problem back then? I was unable to come up with a mix that hardens without cracking using a few millimeters thickness only. I tried to pour the geopolymer mix onto a wax shape 🕯️ , a balloon 🎈, then onto the outer side of a bowl etc. But no matter how hard I tried, my “impossible ashtray” fell apart into coin sized pieces because of cracking. I have wasted gazillions of hours, and enormous amounts of metakaolin and waterglass just to learn how NOT to cast this object. But the impossible ashtray must be a casting, no matter what. Right? I admired ancient Chinese porcelain’s precision for a long time but it took me more than a year to connect the two. This is how slow my brain 🧠 is. Because who cares? There was certainly no connection between ancient China and Egypt, right? Except… History Investigation by Vee showed us that ancient Chinese people used the very same tools for jade works than Egyptians for… khm 🫣 Is that a connection or a coincidence? God knows. But even if it’s a coincidence, it was worth checking whether porcelain making techniques could have been anything to do with geopolymers. What makes porcelain different from everything else is that they pour the porcelain mix INSIDE a hard mold (made from gypsum), let it dry for 2-4 minutes and then pour the rest of the mixture out of the mold. So they are creating a few mm thin layer INSIDE, on the inner wall of the mold. And then, as the porcelain mix is shrinking (lightbulb moment!💡) while drying, it will release the mold and you end up with a precision mug or other object ready to go into the oven. Now have a good look at my very first, not cracked, beautiful geopolymer “precision vase” created using the porcelain method in a plastic container. Yes, it is red. I swear I’ll redo it with white metakaolin. Yes, it’s not an ashtray. Yes, it inherited its precision from a 21st century object. Yes, yes, yes. But! It’s a few millimeter thick cast stone in a shape of a bowl! A STONE!!!!! 🪨🪨🪨🪨 How cool is that? Do you think it’s still impossible to create the “impossible ashtray” via casting? Fun fact: the impossible ashtray is “carved” from “anortoistic gneiss” officially, which is a fancy made up word for WE DON’T KNOW.show more

It is a massive crisis that can be averted by understanding what AI and Robotics will bring about. Solutions are knowing how to use these tools and new industries that will rise. But this situation is also on ALL OF US. No “job” is safe from founder to entry level in most industries. You and I, by what we do, will be “replaced” ultimately. What to do? AI and Robotics are tools, the next decade is owned by those who know how to use them expertly, but this is also temporary. We have to understand that what we do for “work” will change giving ultimately a greater value to those that are: Creative Flexible Always learning Willing to be wrong Love being human Love being alive Know history Covet wisdom Knowing all tech has downsides Building strong family and friends Realize many institutions have failed The first four are required for you to be able to live through this period with your sanity intact. The rest will allow you to thrive. There are no true careers at this point anymore. There are advocation and vocations which will either earn you money or give life meaning. We will learn that we are not “what we do”, just like we knew for 99% of human existence. 🫂🙏Thanks to the bit of aid that entered Gaza... recently, plus the contract which helps us generate water from our source, we were finally able to both distribute water and warm meals today. We distributed clean water to people in the camp and the neighbourhood, and we were able to give everyone in the camp a big bowl of lentils. Even my dad joined in to help. As the prices keep rising and water is almost impossible to get, this feels like some sort of victory. At the same time, we are always painfully aware of the fact that we can't help everyone. There are so many people dying every day, my dear friends. So many people go to bed hungry day after day. Everybody is losing weight and some people are like skeletons. People sometimes collapse in the street as their bodies run out of energy. It is impossible for me to really explain what it is like to live here. I can't find a better description than 'living hell' but even this is not enough to let you know how it feels to be stuck in it. I wish you could smell what death, garbage, open sewers, dust from debris and the smoke from bombs smells like for instance. It is impossible to describe and it's also something we all prefer to pretend not to notice. We never talk about it even though we all know it's there, everywhere and all the time. I wish I could describe all the things we experience every day, as I'm sure you would understand us better. I hope you will never find out what it is like yourselves, my dear friends. May a ceasefire be near for Gaza. My family and I will have a nice warm meal of lentils today, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this. It is your generosity that makes it possible for the people in the camp and us to have food, and for people in our neighbourhood to have fresh water again. OK, I have a definitive word on the CJ... Abrams play from today's Pittsburgh Pirates at Washington Nationals game after talking with Elias Sports Bureau on this. This play will stay as a sacrifice fly. The originial ruling of NOT a sacrifice fly was for the exact same reason that I thought, which is that the infielder is not running into the outfield, which is year's past would have been correct As it was explained to me, in past years, an infielder had to be running almost in a straight line towards the outfield wall to be considered "running in the outfield". Here, since he is running, and he ends up further away from home (157 feet) than when he started (145 feet), this is going to count as a sacrifice fly. That definition is changing, in part from this play to help bring greater consistency, and to take some of the guesswork out of it (the argument that he is running into the outfield as opposed to more parallel). Now, folks all the time ask "why doesn't MLB publish the OS Manual" and I always say because it is a living document that can have the wording change, and the wording for this play will be modified to something like "more towards the outfield wall than towards home plate" to eliminate any confusion. The big key to this play is that he was running on a full sprint. Also, and this is helpful for me, but for all fly ball outs that score a run, Elias Saba reviews to ensure consistency. So, yes, it's a sacrifice fly, and now that I have that info from Elias themselves, that sort of settles this one. Sounds like the guidelines for this definition will be changing, either this season, or certainly for next season.show more
