UPDATE: Driver who claimed his Tesla Autopilot sent him... barreling into a grandmother's home has been charged after data shows he manually overrode the feature. Michael Butler, 44, sent his Tesla 70 MPH into the home of Martha Ávila, 76, killing her as she was trying to put away groceries. Butler claimed his autopilot malfunctioned, but Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s head of AI, found that he floored the accelerator pedal and overrode the self-driving feature. “In this case, the driver manually overrode self-driving by pressing the accelerator all the way to 100% of the accel pedal in this residential area... They reached a speed of 73 mph during the crash, and had the accelerator pressed even after the crash.” Butler was charged with manslaughter and is being sued by the family of Ávila.show more

At first, we thought it was due to a tyre burst, but after checking the dashcam footage, we realized the driver had actually fallen asleep at the wheel.
