This bugs me more than it should. This is... Ghostty, but it happens to other software. Characters on the corners are cropped by the border radius of the window. I like macOS in general, but wish Apple would roll back the rounded corners a tad.show more

Want to recreate ChatGPT’s swipe menu in React Native?... 🧠 I spent the morning building it. Here’s how it works: → Gesture Handler tracks the swipe → Reanimated handles movement, scale, and opacity → Codex helped me build a custom Expo module for the exact iOS screen radius → Older iOS and Android use hardcoded fallbacks The detail that sells the effect: the corner radius never changes, so it feels like you’re moving the physical display. Apple says its biggest iPhone Duo secret wasn’t the... foldable itself — it was the display. Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak says leaks revealed that the company was working on a foldable, allowing Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi to figure out the Duo’s unusual wide aspect ratio before Apple launched it. But Apple claims competitors didn’t know about its key display technology. The iPhone Duo uses a custom nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare and make the fold crease less noticeable. Apple says it added extra security around the technology and kept it under wraps. That makes the Duo story more interesting than a simple “copycat” debate: Apple may have lost the surprise on the design — but it says the real innovation was still hidden.show more

A high-dimensional Gaussian is a soap bubble: the densest... point is the emptiest place. In high dimensions, density and mass diverge completely. For a d-dimensional standard Gaussian distribution, nearly all probability mass is concentrated in a "thin shell" or annulus with radius √d, rather than near the center. The mode has the highest density, but every sample you'll ever draw lives on a thin shell at radius √d. The typical point and the most probable point are in completely different places. Today was the n-th time this has tripped me up, so to commemorate it, I just created this visualization. 🫠show more
