Hedera sets its transaction fees in dollars and charges... them in HBAR Most chains price transactions in their own token, so the cost of sending anything moves with the market. Hedera prices a basic transfer at $0.0001, and nodes convert that to hedera-hashgraph:native using an exchange rate published in a network file that's refreshed about once an hour. The dollar figures are a setting, not a chain property. The setting sits in system file 0.0.113 and can change when that file changes. High-volume transactions carry a multiplier that scales with network load, and those fees can run above the published table.show more

There will be no new Arab Spring. The conditions... that led to the Arab Spring have only multiplied. And if Bouazizi was one man who set himself on fire, today, across the Arab states, there are many Bouazizis setting themselves on fire or gambling with their lives in the Mediterranean for a chance to reach Europe. Just yesterday, a 62-year-old Tunisian woman who made a living selling goods from a small street stall set herself on fire outside the governorate building in Sidi Bouzid, after police assaulted her husband. (Video) And today, 42-year-old Wahbi al-Khadrawi, a father of two, died after spending 10 days at the Severe Burns Hospital in Ben Arous from setting himself on fire inside the Mohammedia district headquarters in protest over the refusal to grant him a medical treatment card despite his repeated requests. His family said people were prevented from filming the incident and that his wife was prevented from visiting him. (Photo) And this is just in Tunisia, and just this week. There won’t be a new Arab Spring, but something far worse for the regimes that created these catastrophic conditions on every level.show more

I bet you've never noticed this ultra-cool but rather... complicated "cone of prediction" at the center of Windows context menus? It allows the system to predict that you're aiming for a flyout. Well, that's because Windows (at least in the old days) didn't do any such fanciness. It just uses a timeout of 400ms, and it's always worked pretty well. It's even adjustable (SPI_SETMENUSHOWDELAY) these days, but used to just be 80% of your double-click speed setting. So the faster your reflexes were - per that setting, at least - the shorter your menu flyout allowance. No cone needed. ( I stole this from a Raymond Chen hockey card that I keep tucked up in my 50 Mission Cap ).show more
