Now for The Co-Main Event of the Evening on... this 9 days. This man is also one of the absolute finest players of all time. Back in the Coach Lou Holtz days the Irish were the epitome of old school smash mouth power football. Coach Holtz’s bread and butter play to make everything go was the option. To be able to run the option offense you need a quarterback that can run like a deer, read the defensive tackle, defensive end and outside linebacker to either give the football to the tailback, fullback or pull it and take off and throw the football to keep the defense honest. This man could do those 3 traits to perfection. He was the definition of a Option quarterback. During his storied career at ‘The House that Rockne Built’ he had 173 completions for 2,961 yards and 11 of those passes visited the end zone. Running the whether it was the Triple, Read, Midline, Speed, Power Read option he ran the football 384 times for 1,921 yards and visited the end zone 23 times. In 1988 and 1989 he was a First Team All-American. In 1989, he took home the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
