🇮🇳 Fuel crises in India are worsening due to... closure of Hormuz Strait. Massive crowds have gathered at petrol pump stations across multiple Indian states due to shortages and panic buying. Clashes on stations across India have resulted in two deaths. India, with a population exceeding 1.5 billion people, relies heavily on the Hormuz Strait for its gas and oil supplies, with approximately 45% of its needs coming through. Times of India reports that despite Iran permitting countries that have communicated with Tehran beforehand to pass through the straits, dozens of Indian cargo ships remain stuck. Hotels and restaurants across India are shortening operating hours or closing due to a severe LPG supply crunch stemming from Middle East tensions. As of March 2026, 20% of Mumbai's eateries closed. The fuel scarcity, impacting about 90% of imports, has forced businesses to restrict services or use high-priced black market fuel.show more
