A Garud commando was winched down to guide the group through cross-country route to a pre-briefed helipad at Kotmale, from where 24 passengers — including Indians, foreign nationals and Sri Lankans — were evacuated to Colombo. In a parallel effort, three critical casualties were airlifted to Colombo for immediate medical attention. Under the close supervision and proactive guidance of Commander, #VictoryForCertain Bde, a swift and synergised firefighting response was launched, involving troops of the #VictoryForCertain Bde, Air Force Station Kasauli, Cantonment Board Kasauli and Civil Fire Tenders. For over 16 hours, ground columns battled the flames along Gilbert Trail, Shourya Marg and adjoining areas, preventing further spread and safeguarding critical heritage zones. #CycloneDitwah | Indian Air Force Humanitarian Assistance The Indian... Air Force, in close coordination with Sri Lankan authorities, carried out major rescue and evacuation operations in the landslide-affected Kotmale region, which remains completely cut off by road. Across the day’s missions, IAF helicopters evacuated a total of 45 stranded passengers, including 6 critical casualties and 4 infants, and brought them safely to Colombo. These included 12 Indian nationals and over 30 foreign nationals from countries such as Germany, South Africa, Slovenia, the UK, Poland, Belarus, Iran, Australia, Pakistan and Bangladesh, along with Sri Lankan citizens. To reinforce ground relief efforts, the IAF also airlifted 57 Sri Lankan Army personnel into the affected area to support rescue and clearance operations. It feels like the Indian Army in the Ladakh... region is increasingly being harassed by having to rescue people instead of focusing on their core duties. A recent example is a famous YouTuber, with no real driving skills or high-altitude experience, who had to be rescued at Umling La Pass yesterday the world’s highest motorable pass. He himself mentions black ice in the video, and also says there was no other person or vehicle around. This raises a serious question: why are such YouTubers even granted permission to travel to extremely risky passes like this, especially during dangerous seasons? Incidents like these not only put civilian lives at risk but also unnecessarily endanger and distract the Indian Army.
