As most of those who have been following me during these years of war know, my family live a couple of kilometers from the front line in Kherson. The elder members of my family have kept a small garden going there all these years - as a gesture of defiance... ...AND AS A SYMBOL OF LIFE! This garden is a little distance from our house. There's no reason to target it, or the old people working in it. Yesterday, russian drones attacked it - a garden tended by old people! They burned the garden, the garden shed, melted the pipes that supply water - destroyed EVERYTHING! A garden. Today, they were back, attacking the burned out garden with drones again! Angie….Wow. This has taken me a couple of days... to digest. I had the pleasure of knowing this queen since the very beginning of my true musical journey. I was looking for a background singer and sax player for my first club tour and she walked into my life at an audition. I instantly knew that I was in the presence of greatness. We did a tour together and became family. Being from down south (as we called it) she reminded me of my grandmother and her people who were from a small town in Georgia. We bonded over music, humour, and southern cuisine which she cooked with great joy. She knew her food tasted better than everyone else’s and it did. She had a phrase that I loved, "Lenny, I am overly confident". She believed it and so did I. She went on to become Angie Stone and changed the face of music as a solo artist, becoming known as the queen of neo soul. She already had an illustrious past but this was now HER time. As a black woman who was told she was not the right age, not the right look, etc she busted through and never looked back. The rest is history. Writer, producer, arranger, musician and master vocalist. The best of the best. I got to play on some of those great recordings and they are treasures in my mind and spirit. Thankfully, just as the keeper came out to give food, the bigger monkey lost interest and went for the meal instead. Punch was freed, hid for a short while, and then, as he always does, carefully came back out and stayed pressed close to the keeper.. This is part of troop (hierarchy) behavior. A woman, while at work, got curious about what... her cat was doing at home and started watching through a camera. As soon as she left the house, the cat would jump onto the bed, play around, and completely mess up the neatly made sheets. But here’s the strange part: every time she came home, the bed was perfectly clean and tidy 🤔 She couldn’t make sense of it. Then she checked the camera again and finally realized the truth.
