Peppermill has a digital marquee — and anywhere else... this would probably be a pretty impressive sign. But this is the LAS VEGAS STRIP. 😂 They replaced the old-school neon marquee in 2018, and while the LED version is functional, it misses what made the original special. Peppermill already has something most Strip properties would kill for: a strong, instantly recognizable Old Vegas identity. So why compete in the modern LED arms race with Resorts World and everyone else? Lean into what makes it different. 🔥 A towering retro neon pylon 🔥 Chasing incandescent bulbs 🔥 Bold vertical “PEPPERMILL” blade signage 🔥 The Fireside Lounge flame as a centerpiece 🔥 Or a hybrid design with neon framing a small digital panel The goal shouldn’t be to have the biggest screen on the Strip. It should be to have the most iconic sign on the Strip. Make it a landmark again. What would you build here? #LasVegas #Vegas #LasVegasStrip #Peppermill #OldVegasshow more

Hosted a small dinner with Marvin Schwaibold and Jaytel... last night for a few friends and folks who inspire us. We wanted something more personalized than partiful, so went a bit overboard on this invite page (almost all Jaytel!). Amazing how many thoughtful details and decisions can be made on something so simple.show more

An 18-month-old tiger (a sub-adult) is currently being reintroduced... into the wild for the second time. It was previously brought back in because it was unable to hunt and would have starved to death. The collar allows it to be identified and tracked. A strong bond remains with the volunteer who raised it from a young age, and who hopes that this attempt at reintroduction will succeed.show more

Hard Rock Las Vegas is bringing something back the... Strip almost never does: balcony suites. That’s a BIG deal. Balconies are extremely rare in Vegas hotels — not by accident. Most resorts avoid them due to liability, safety concerns, and design economics. The one major exception has been The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas — and there’s a reason for that. It was originally built as a condo project before the 2008 crash killed that model. The units were never sold, it became a hotel — but the balconies stayed. Vegas actually tried this twice. One became Cosmo — a hit with terraces. The other was The Harmon — a condo tower at CityCenter that never even opened due to structural defects… and had to be demolished. After that (and the financial crash), developers moved away from condo-style builds entirely. Outside of Cosmo? Very limited inventory: • A few specialty suites at Bellagio • Some off-Strip or legacy properties • Almost nothing mainstream on the Strip That’s why Cosmo balconies became such a signature differentiator. Now Hard Rock is stepping into that lane. If they execute this right, these won’t just be rooms — they’ll be premium inventory with real pricing power. Bottom line: Balconies aren’t normal here. #vegasshow more

Zoox (owned by Amazon) is now testing Robotaxi rides... to and from the Las Vegas International Airport. For employees only initially, but will expand to the public in the relatively near future. I'm curious to see what airport rides are like in this vehicle, because when I rode in it last September, I didn't feel the cabin would be good for luggage. There isn't a dedicated storage area like Tesla and Waymo have, which is why I felt the vehicle would be best for passenger only rides, but I guess if the luggage is small it'll be fine.show more

LIKE THIS WOULD BE SUCH GENUINELY WELL WRITTEN DRAMA... IF THE MOM WAS ALLOWED TO BE A CHARACTER. If he actually was in love with her at one point and it was just a normal relationship that soured, his cheating being allowed to be Immoral and Fucked. it's so one-sided this wayshow more

Serafina turned nine this weekend, and we celebrated with... a birthday party theme called “Granny Fina,” where she and all her friends dressed up as little grandmothers. Fuzzhead and I test-fired the Diabolus rifle at a... local range the other day. It did very well, with just a few hiccups that are to be expected with a prototype. Everyone who sees and handles this gun likes it, and I think it's going to be a bit hit once we start shipping 'em!show more

VEGAS WANTS TO KNOW WHERE EVERYBODY WENT. I HAVE... THE RECEIPT FROM MY LAST BUFFET. Downtown Las Vegas is looking a little lonely. The numbers back it up. Visitation was down 4.3% in August. Passengers through Harry Reid down 9%. Downtown gaming win down 3%. They're cutting room rates and the rooms still aren't filling. And somewhere in a corporate office on the Strip, a man in a $4,000 suit is asking how this could possibly happen. Sir. Let me help. Vegas used to be the deal. Sinatra, Dean and Sammy at the Sands. A 99-cent shrimp cocktail downtown at the Golden Gate. Cheap rooms, cheap buffets, loose slots, free drinks if you sat down at a table. They knew you'd lose money at the tables, so they made everything else feel like a steal. That was the whole business model. And it worked for fifty years. Then the MBAs showed up. (I'm allowed to say that. I have one.) Room rates went up. Then they added a resort fee. Fifty bucks a night for a pool you won't use and Wi-Fi that drops every time you open your laptop. Parking that used to be free? Now it's not. Blackjack used to pay 3:2. Now a lot of tables pay 6:5, which is a polite way of saying they shaved your winnings and hoped you wouldn't do the math. And the buffet. The buffet used to be the cheapest meal in America. Now the fancy ones on the Strip run close to $90 a person on a weekend, and the crab legs still taste like the freezer. Who thought that money train would run forever? You squeezed the golden goose until it filed for divorce. Vegas casino bosses have pulled off something I didn't think was possible. They made McDonald's leadership look like value heroes. At least the Big Mac doesn't come with a resort fee. I still end up in Vegas once a year for work. I didn't say I like it. I hate the room rates. I don't eat on the Strip. Get in an Uber, go to Spring Mountain Road, and eat your way through Chinatown. Some of the best Asian food in the country is sitting in strip malls a mile from the casinos, at a third of the price. The locals know. Now you do too. And the desert is still a desert. It's hot, it's dry, my hair hates it, and the whole place still looks like a showgirl's jewelry box exploded. There's exactly one thing on the Strip I'd fight you for. The Peppermill. Neon, mirrors, velvet booths, plates the size of hubcaps and a drink so big it needs two straws and a designated driver. I go every single year. I order too much, I share it with my coworkers or my customers, and we pass that giant drink around like it's 1978. That's my Vegas. You can keep the rest of it. 🦋show more
