⚽️ Day 54 of building my football game solo... in Unreal Engine 5. I made enhancements to a bug that many in the community have called out for a few weeks: 🥾 A player's boot would plant on the ground and slide a foot or two before lifting off the ground 🎿This made it look like players were ice skating on the pitch. ✔️The fix was a mix of animation playback speed and implementing a technique called stride warping. The plant foot still moves slightly forward once it lands on the ground, but it's not as dramatic as before. The video highlights a few clips in full speed and at 10% of full speed. The biggest change here might be the direction of... the workflow. It used to be: make the video first, then figure out the details. Now I can define the details first. GPT-6 Astra → custom color LUT → CapCut PC → footage → refinement. Or Astra → customized subtitle .srt → CapCut PC → timeline → final styling. In an article in nature today, we start tackling this question by combining forebrain #assembloids with CRISPR screens to map >400 disease genes onto stages of human cortical interneuron development. Using engineered lines, regionalized neural #organoids and over 1,000 #assembloids, we discovered a group of disease genes that interfere with GABAergic neuron generation or migration, including some surprising disease mechanisms. My walk by the canal this evening and I... thought you might be interested to see a lock. I realised that some of you might never have seen one and I know everyone is fascinated as to how they work. Locks are a way for boats to go up hill or downhill. Without them, there would be waterfalls and a narrowboat can’t do those. If I were sailing my boat from where I’m walking in this video, I’d need to open the paddles with my windlass to let all of the water out. Once the water was out of the lock, I could open one gate (a narrowboat exactly fits through just one gate) and sail into the lock. I’d then close the gate and walk to the other end of the lock as I do in this video. I’d open the paddles at these gates and the water would now flow into the lock and my boat would rise up as the lock filled with water. Once it was full, I’d open a gate and sail out. A very simple system, but very clever. P.S. I have employed a swan to carry my video camera for these videos, as the duck I first employed couldn’t handle the weight of the camera and kept crashing into the water. The swan is better but as you’ll see at the beginning of the video, he’s so big that he crashes straight through the tree branches. There is a lot more training required and he was told off and debriefed after this video was made.show more

In his latest YouTube video, 2022 1500m World champion... Jake Wightman shares a ton of context around the injury that knocked him out of the Olympics. He reveals that in his final workout (one week out from race day in Paris), he was doing a 4 x 400m with six minutes rest. He went 48, 49, 50 and then felt his hamstring go with 200m left in the final rep but finished in 50s. Initially, he thought it was a cramp but it turned out to be a tear in his hamstring tendon. Wasn't able to run for seven or eight weeks after. 2024 season over. Now, he's back to training. Slated to race a 1500m at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on Feb. 2. 🎥 FULL VIDEO:show more
