In her post-race interview after finishing second in the Prefontaine Classic 800m in 1:56.73, Olympic champion 🇬🇧 Keely Hodgkinson explains that she had her knees taped up after a fall after a cooldown at practice a few days ago. No bruises but some deep cuts. “Four days ago, I couldn’t even walk.” She’s still slated to go after the 800m world record at the London Diamond League on July 18th.

🗣️ "I think it's very important for clean sport...I think it's a great idea. Maybe I'm due for the future to do the same thing." 🇪🇹 Yomif Kejelcha, today's London Marathon runner-up in 1:59:41 (second man in history to run a legal sub-2), applauded Sabastian Sawe for taking the extra step for more anti-doping testing ahead of the world record run. Kejelcha says he would also participate in more testing before his next marathon. Kejelcha is also sponsored by adidas, which provided the funds to the Athletics Integrity Unit to handle Sawe's additional testing.

“I lose money in this sport. I don’t gain money.” Eric Holt speaks out about the struggles of being an unsponsored track athlete He is the fifth-fastest American man in the 1500m this year. He just took the 2022 1500m world champion to the finish line at the NYC Grand Prix. No sponsor has come forward for him since he burst onto the scene in 2021 and he has a chance of breaking through to make the U.S. Olympic team in a few weeks. • Trains in NY and is supported by his club Empire Elite (which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) • Buys his own apparel/shoes/spikes | “I have to pay for all my own shoes. All my own physio. I have to pay for everything.” • Worked a job at a psychiatric center before leaving to dedicate himself to making the past few Worlds/Olympic teams. • Lives with his parents | “My dad is in his 70s so even though I used to be embarrassed by it. I know I get to spend time with my dad in his older ages. • Has a supportive girlfriend | “When we go out, she pays for every single meal. I told her when I get sponsored, I’ll pay for the meals this time.” This man is betting on himself. If you’re looking for another athlete to root for before the U.S. Olympic Trials, Eric Holt is chasing a dream. ⤵️

🗣️ “I can’t do this anymore. It’s very frustrating dealing with JOA and JAAA. These people don’t care about field events in Jamaica.” 🇯🇲 Jamaica’s Danniel Thomas-Dodd goes off on the after the Jamaican Olympic Association and the Jamaican Athletics Administrative Association for denying a credential for her coach. She hasn’t seen him in 2.5 weeks. More of her comments from this video: “It’s very frustrating. This is something that I’m more than capable of obtaining and I came up short today.” “That’s the irony of it. The gold medal that they were sitting down waiting for did not come from the track. It came from the field events. And those are the events that they neglect so much in Jamaica.” “Most of the medals that we have gotten so far at these games come from the field events and we are the most marginalized group in Jamaican track and field. It’s time for them to stop and really reflect on what they are doing to us as athletes.” #Paris2024 #Olympics #Athletics

Here are coach Claudio Berrardelli's comments on drug testing after Sabastian Sawe's 1:59:30 world record. Q: Do you know how many times exactly he was tested or not? Berardelli: I don't know exactly...I know yesterday I was with the AIU and they said he has been tested more. Of course, what happened was the budget we had before Berlin, the AIU decided to spread it throughout the year because they said it doesn't make sense to have him tested every three days, it's too much. Still, Sebastian is in a special anti-doping (protocol).

"I most likely wouldn't be here with a gold medal, but I really like to race her. She's the best athlete to ever do it in my event." After winning her second 400m hurdles World Championship gold medal, Femke Bol was asked by someone whether she would've liked to have raced Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone in the #WorldAthleticsChamps 400m hurdles. Great respect for one of her toughest competitors.
