I’ve made some adjustments to the snowfall map, shifting totals a bit farther south to better account for areas where the front end snowfall Sunday morning/afternoon will be higher due to increased moisture levels. This would still account for sleet and warm air intrusion around the 5,000-ft level which still may become an issue. That warm layer will cut into some late storm accumulations once the dry air is overcome. 🔹 Coastal Monmouth & Ocean Counties I now expect at least 6" in eastern Monmouth, with max potentials up to 10". This is the assumption of sleet mixing. 🔹 Long Island Included in the 6–10" range, with some mixing limiting higher totals in spots. 🔹 NYC & Northern Long Island The most common snowfall totals will be a 10–15" range which is not uniform across the entire area. Some locations will fall short due to brief mixing. 🔹 Snow Max Zone The highest potential remains over northern NJ, the Lower Hudson Valley, and southwest CT, where: • Snow ratios will be higher • Frontogenesis banding is most likely • Lift will be strongest ➡️ Snowfall max potential: up to 18" in this corridor. I'm going to tell you all a story. Back... in November 2023, I attended the San Francisco Fan Expo. I was right in the middle of finishing all of my finals for San Francisco State University in order to graduate, but I wanted to go to the event to say hello to Tony Todd in person and congratulate him on his outstanding performance as Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. I was already lucky enough to briefly say hi to him during San Diego Comic-Con 2023, but it was in passing amongst a massive crowd of people and I barely had enough time to introduce myself. The moment I walked up to him at Fan Expo, he immediately remembered me from our brief interaction prior, already knew my name, and asked how I was doing in school. I was able to talk with him one-on-one for multiple days during the event, geek out about our favorite shared nerd culture, gift him with a Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Venom fan art print, and learn firsthand just how much he loved his work, his family, and all of his fans. During Fan Expo, there was a Q&A panel for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 which I was in attendance for. Tony & Nadji were able to answer several questions from fans about the game. When I walked up to the panel's microphone, my question in particular was about where they would like to see Miles & Venom go next within the Marvel's Spider-Man universe. Tony clearly adored the games, essentially said that he would love to see Venom "travel the world", and that he would want to keep playing the character forever. After I thanked them both for answering my question, Tony said something to me in front of everybody attending the panel that will stick with me for the rest of my life: "Everybody keep your eyes on this young man right here. He'll be working for Marvel someday." Tony's unfathomable kindness and warmth not only inspired me to graduate Magna Cum Laude from San Francisco State University, but they also furthered my drive to pursue my dreams within the industry. I am utterly gutted and heartbroken to hear about his passing. I genuinely feel like I've lost a close friend. But, above everything else, I am eternally grateful for everything that he has done for the entire Spider-Man community, as well as pouring his heart and soul into his craft which went on to inspire so many others. 🚨 NASA JUST FOUND THE RAW INGREDIENTS OF DNA... INSIDE A ROCK OLDER THAN EARTH ITSELF. Samples returned from the asteroid Bennu contain complex organic molecules including precursors to DNA and RNA, plus many of the amino acids used by all life on Earth. These molecules formed in the early solar system and survived for billions of years inside the asteroid. Earth didn’t have to invent the chemistry of life from nothing. It was delivered ready-made from space. Why this matters: • Bennu is a primitive asteroid that has remained largely unchanged since the birth of the solar system (~4.5 billion years ago) • The samples contain the molecular building blocks of DNA, RNA, and proteins the core components of life as we know it • These organics were preserved through the violent early days of the solar system and could have been delivered to Earth by asteroids and comets • This is some of the strongest direct evidence yet that life’s chemistry has cosmic origins The deeper implication: This doesn’t mean aliens or microbes came from space. It means the raw materials for life were already floating around the solar system long before Earth cooled enough to support life. Our planet likely received these ingredients from above rather than creating them all from scratch. If these building blocks were common in the early solar system, then the starting chemistry for life may have been widespread dramatically raising the chances that similar processes could have happened elsewhere. Facial reconstruction of a 7,000-year-old man from Eridu, Iraq... He lived during the Ubaid period, a culture that flourished in Mesopotamia before the rise of the Sumerian cities. The Ubaid people are known for establishing some of the earliest settled communities in southern Iraq, laying the foundations for later urban civilization. The Ubaid culture emerged in southern Mesopotamia through a combination of local development and external influences, such as from Susiana, with additional contributions from northern traditions such as the Samarra culture (particularly irrigation), as well as contact with groups associated with the Arabian bifacial tradition. A Babylonian creation text says of Eridu: "All the lands were sea, then Eridu was made." The history of Eridu goes back to the Ubaid period. Its inhabitants lived largely by fishing. Their harbour was located in a marshy, semi-aquatic environment. During the Uruk period (which follows the Ubaid and represents a key stage in the development of early Mesopotamian urban civilization, preceding the fully historical Sumerian city-state period), there is still ample evidence of Eridu’s importance. However, from the beginning of the historical period, it no longer appears to have been a populous settlement. From the Third Dynasty of Ur onward, Eridu was not so much a city as a complex of religious buildings, raised high above the surrounding plain on an artificial platform. The Sumerians and Babylonians worshipped Ea (Enki) here, the god of wisdom and patron of craftsmen and artisans. He was regarded as the father of Marduk and a principal deity associated with the primordial waters. His name was also reflected in that of the city Dur-Ea and in personal names such as Ea-gamil.
