This is the largest monastic library on Earth. It’s... hidden in an Austrian mountain valley and is believed to have inspired the design of the iconic library in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, but you’ve probably never even heard of it... Completed in 1776 within the Benedictine monastery Admont Abbey, the library was designed by architect Josef Hueber as the intellectual crown of the abbey. It is 70 metres long, lit by 48 windows, and lined with white-and-gold bookcases that hold 70,000 volumes. Across the entire abbey, the collection runs to roughly 200,000 books and 1,400 medieval manuscripts. Hueber designed the room to embody the philosophy of his era. "Like our understanding, spaces too should be filled with light," he said. The walls are white. The shelves are gilded. Sunlight pours through the windows and reflects off the gold leaf until the entire hall seems to glow from inside. The ceiling holds seven frescoes painted by Bartolomeo Altomonte in the summers of 1775 and 1776. He was almost eighty years old. Each fresco depicts a stage of human understanding, beginning with the sciences and rising, dome by dome, toward Divine Revelation in the central cupola. In 1865, a fire tore through the monastery. It destroyed the church, the dormitories, the workshops, almost everything. But the library survived untouched. VIDEO: Remains Of Nigerian Student Allegedly Killed By Chinese... In Philippines A Nigerian student, identified as Ikem, was allegedly brutally murdered by a group of Chinese in the Republic of the Philippines. The PUNCH reports that an ally to the deceased, identified as Michael Ojuola, made this known via his X handle on Sunday. Ojuola wrote, "A friend of mine, a Nigerian medical student named Ikem studying in the Republic of Philippines, was brvtally mvrdered by a group of Chinese. "They tied his hands up, covered and tied his mouth, and he was beaten blue-black until he gave up the gh*st. "This should never be allowed to get swept under the carpet regardless of the relationship between the Philippines and China! "This is so inhuman and barbaric! I can’t even think straight at the moment because of the horrific videos I’m getting right now from the hospital." In a separate post on his X handle, Ojuola shared videos of the remains of the deceased. His caption read, "RIP Ikem! No one deserves to go through this. No arrest has been made yet, as I write. It's #WorldGiraffeDay. Come for a walk through with Pips.... She is nine months old, and the youngest giraffe orphan in our care. We rescued her in September 2025 after her mother was killed by lions. She had been hiding alone for days, slipping in to drink at a water trough and disappearing again. Pips is in esteemed company. The first giraffe we raised to the wild was Kiko, rescued in 2015 and now continuing his rewilding at Lewa. Twiggy, another, joined the wild around the time Pips turned up, and has been seen in the company of a boyfriend. Pips is still at the beginning of her journey. The story goes that when Paolina Bonaparte, sister of... Napoleon, was asked whether it had been uncomfortable to pose nearly naked for Antonio Canova, she answered with a line that has been repeated ever since: "All veils may fall before Canova." Canova carved her between 1805 and 1808 as Venus Victrix — Venus the Victorious — reclining on a couch, semi-nude, holding the golden apple given to the goddess in the Judgement of Paris, when she was named the most beautiful of all the goddesses of Olympus. It scandalised Rome. Aristocratic women, especially the sister of an emperor, were not portrayed without drapery. The gossip was relentless, and the reply attributed to her became just as famous as the scandal itself... Canova carved her in white marble so finely that the mattress beneath her appears to give under her weight, and the surface of her skin glows in the light as though the stone were alive. She reclines today in the Galleria Borghese in Rome, where she has not moved in nearly two hundred years.
