‘THESE ARE PROFESSIONALS, THEY WILL NOT ALLOW THEMSELVES TO... BE USED BY ANYBODY’ Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Monday vowed that the agency would be proactive in enforcing rules prohibiting politicians from distributing any form of government aid. During a press briefing, Gatchalian said that while he is confident in the professionalism of DSWD social workers, he would not allow them to go to distribution sites if politicians are present. When President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act No. 12314, the General Appropriations Act (GAA) outlining the national government’s P6.793-trillion budget for 2026, he stated that politicians would be barred from distributing financial aid, saying, “we shall ensure that the support reaches the intended beneficiaries without patronage.” Read more:show more

[DID YOU KNOW] Disobeying the South African Police Service... National Instruction 5 of 2017 is a punishable offence in terms of disciplinary regulations. The new trend of posting pictures and video clips in uniform on various social media platforms, directly contravenes National Instruction 5 of 2017. According to Section 19(10) of National Instruction 5 of 2017 on Media Communication in the South African Police Service, the following rules must be adhered to: No member may, on their own accord, represent the SAPS on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc., either on their own social media accounts or those belonging to the SAPS. No member may use a profile picture of themselves in uniform or display any police insignia, badges, or logos as their avatar on their private social media accounts. Only with the approval of the Head of Corporate Communication and Liaison may a social media profile be set up for or on behalf of the SAPS on any social network. Accordingly, no station, cluster, unit, or office of the SAPS is permitted to have a social media profile or account without approval. These regulations ensure that all members execute their duties professionally within the confines of the law. Any employee who transgresses in any form or manner will be subjected to the processes of the applicable Disciplinary Regulations. All SAPS members are required to subscribe to the SAPS Code of Conduct and Dress Code and adhere to them when performing their daily duties and interacting with the public. Your efficiency, professionalism, integrity, respect, and empathy are vital to service delivery and the SAPS’s reputation, which in turn influences the community's trust in their police service.show more

Fellow Zimbabweans, As a retired Lieutenant General who has... devoted my life to the defence and service of our nation, I address you at a moment of profound consequence for Zimbabwe’s future. The matters now before Parliament are not abstract legalities; they are decisions that will determine whether our children and grandchildren inherit a nation governed by democratic principles, accountable institutions, and a genuine possibility of change or whether power will be further concentrated in ways that constrict popular participation and erode public trust. I have watched our country through moments of trial and triumph. I have seen soldiers and civilians alike sacrifice, and I have witnessed the courage of communities who, through their daily toil, keep this nation going. Service to country is not merely a profession; it is a moral obligation to defend the principles that underpin the legitimacy of governance: fairness, transparency, and the right of the people to choose their leaders. It is in that spirit that I make my position clear. I lend my endorsement to Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga as the person best suited, within the current political realities, to resist the constitutional changes set out in Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, and to act as a steward for the preservation of democratic practice and institutional integrity. My endorsement is not given lightly. It flows from three convictions born of experience in governance, security, and public service. First, the content and consequences of the proposed amendments are fundamentally at odds with democratic accountability. Provisions that extend an incumbent’s tenure, lengthen presidential terms from five to seven years, substitute direct popular election with a parliamentary selection process, and enlarge presidential appointment powers, collectively alter the architecture of state power. These changes diminish the direct role of citizens in determining who should lead them, concentrate authority in the executive, and expand patronage networks that can erode institutional checks and balances. For a nation that claims to honour the ballot, reducing the people’s franchise on who should be President is a retrograde step. Second, the timing and context of this Bill cannot be ignored. Zimbabweans today confront urgent social and economic crises: overstretched health facilities lacking basic medicines, deteriorating infrastructure, high unemployment and underemployment especially in the informal economy, rampant corruption, and basic service delivery failures that leave households without safe water or reliable electricity for days on end. It is morally indefensible that when citizens most need competence, accountability and reform, the energies of Parliament are consumed by proposals that could entrench political advantage rather than address the daily hardships of our people. Third, the political arithmetic that undergirds this Bill is clear and perilous. With the ruling party’s dominant parliamentary presence and a fragmented opposition, a shift to an indirectly elected presidency would likely cement one party’s control for decades. This is not speculative; the proposed sequencing of term extensions makes clear that the path being charted guarantees prolonged control irrespective of public sentiment. When the rules of the political game are rewritten by those who stand to benefit directly, the result is a democratic deficit that will weaken public trust and social cohesion. It is precisely because of these risks that I believe Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga represents the most credible internal check within the existing political framework.show more

Election Commission of India Spokesperson ECI It has come... to light that WhatsApp messages, allegedly originating from you or your associates, are being selectively circulated among BJP and RSS-aligned journalists, influencers, and ecosystem supporters. These messages are being used to spread misleading and malicious propaganda under the guise of narrative building. We strongly urge the Election Commission of India to stop acting as an extension of the BJP and RSS apparatus and to uphold the dignity, independence, and constitutional sanctity of your office. We also demand clarity on the following: When will the Election Commission of India issue an official signed declaration under oath affirming that the concerns raised by opposition parties are unfounded and that the voter rolls are free of irregularities? The public deserves full transparency and accountability, especially when the integrity of our electoral process is under question. Dismissive remarks, bullying tactics, diversions, evasions, or silence are unacceptable. We demand a clear, authoritative, and verified statement that restores public trust and upholds the core values of our democracy.show more

I am enjoying Alex Onyia’s audacity. His can-do attitude... is out of this world. Visiting his page is time well spent. All I see is value for money. I don’t think that Nigerians can truly appreciate the magnitude of what he has started, at least not yet! As a serious nation, these are exactly the types of conversations we ought to be having. He called them the “The three wise men,” & I concur. I see a breath of fresh air. This is a far departure from Pella & Big Brother Naija. This is no “Olodo Uprising.” Finally, I have found the hill I will die on. Exposing the children to a world-class education at this formative stage has changed their worldviews completely These children are Geniuses already. They only needed a little exposure to complete a perfect triumvirate. Alex just armed the kids with a powerful weapon. Now they feel like they can take on the world. Twenty years from now, the world will definitely hear their name & fame. The South East Maths Olympiad & the ongoing STEM Olympiad in Rome are eye-openers. I love the fact that his team streamed the 2026 South East Maths Olympiad Grand Finale, where the winners emerged. I am glad the entire process was conducted publicly. By doing so, he cleared doubts & ensured that utmost integrity & transparency were met. Tribalism should not be allowed in education. The politics of Nepotism & Quota System should have no business in education. Merit & transparency should be the only yardsticks. LET THE BEST OF US LEAD THE REST OF US! WESTERN EDUCATION SAVED CHINA! The four Asian Tigers (Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, & Taiwan) did not grow by selling akara, agbado, nor kulikuli. If Nigeria will make it, then STEM Education is the only forward. My only fear is retainership. Nigeria is going to lose these brains to America, Canada, China, Germany, Australia, & the UK. They will excel, but not in Nigeria. We will continue to sell ourselves short. Tribalism, religion, & politics will continue to rob Nigeria of its greatness. Congratulations to Alex & his team. I hope to them not only excel but expand what they started to the national. He has launched an initiative that could change the fortunes of Nigeria for good. He needs all the support he can get. The winning team must stay together. We must protect the right of Nigeria to change.show more

GUYS!! NIGERIA, AEDC, AND TINUBU HAPPENED TO MY SMALL... COMMUNITY IN LUGBE YESTERDAY!!!😥 For almost 3 years since I built my small hut in this community, we have been battling with epileptic power situation due to the overloaded Transformer which has been serving 3 communities including mine. In December 2025, after myself and a few community members spearheaded a regime change and ensured a proper election was conducted. After the election, we told the newly elected chairman (who happens to be my very very good friend) that the priority is for us to get our own dedicated Transformer for the community. Initially, we were thinking of buying. But considering it will cost over N20million to buy a 500KVA Transformer and another N15million plus for accessories and installation, the mission looked impossible. Then I and others told the Chairman that we can actually give it a try an reach out to the aedcelectricity for a Transformer given that the NERC Nigeria has told Nigerians that it is the responsibility of the DISCOs to provide Transformer and any power related infrastructure to any community or area in need of such infrastructure. Considering the Nigerian factor, many, infact, almost the entire community said it was never going to be possible for AEDC to give us a Transformer free of charge. But as someone who has been an advocate of government and who has always benefited from government by following due process, I encouraged my community and the Chairman that this is actually worth a try. In January 2026, we drafted a Transformer request letter and submitted to the AEDC Head Office at Wuse Zone 4, and the processes began. Low and behold, in less than 4 months, the AEDC, yesterday, delivered a brand new 500KVA Transformer with complete accessories to my community FREE-OF-CHARGE!🤸♂️🕺 I have told my community people that we have started benefitting our own share of the N3.3trillion approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to GENCOs and all of us have agreed that come 2027, it is TINUBU OR NOTHING!!!🤗💪🏾 God bless the AEDC! God bless NERC!! God bless President Tinubu!!! God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬🙏🏾show more

🇩🇪 ALL EYES ON GERMANY I’ll be traveling to... Berlin next week as the German Farmers have announced that they will launch a protest “larger than the country has ever seen before” on Monday, January 8. Multiple farmers' associations, the train drivers’ union and the trucking industry have announced they’ll be mobilizing against the federal government's plans to cancel for agricultural diesel, cut vehicle tax exemptions and increase truck tolls and carbon taxes. There are also countless calls on social media for a general strike against the federal German government - demanding they step down. Mark my words: There is no doubt that if all of these sectors hold their ground and do not back down as a result of the establishment’s usual intimidation tactics, that they have the power to completely paralyze the country and finally demand change. This wouldn’t be a turning point just for Germany, but also for the rest of Europe. #nofarmersnofood #Bauernprotestshow more

👮🏾♀️🚔 || KZN police have thanked businessman Calvin Mathibeli... for inviting them to probe his business affairs, including a Gauteng Health tender. This comes after a social media post, where he makes a number of allegations about the SAPS in the province following a raid at his premises. A statement from the provincial commissioner’s office says: “What Mr Mathibeli does not know is that the operation at his business premises was a Head Office operation and police in KwaZulu-Natal had nothing to do with it. Mr Mathibeli seems to have an obsession with police in KwaZulu-Natal and particularly, the Provincial Commissioner. Police in KwaZulu-Natal will now seek legal recourse against Mr Mathibeli for his image-tainting utterances. Mr Mathibeli even quoted what Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi said in his evidence at the Madlanga Commission that he was minding his business in KwaZulu-Natal when he learnt of the disbandment of the PKTT and started paying attention. Now that Mr Mathibeli has introduced himself to the police in KwaZulu-Natal, his utterances were simply an invitation to police in KwaZulu-Natal to start looking into his business dealings, and police have learnt that he is a beneficiary of a tender with the Department of Health in Gauteng. Police in KwaZulu-Natal will give him the attention he is seeking and get the ball of investigations rolling. Police in KwaZulu-Natal did not know about Mr Mathibeli and his business dealings and police would like to thank him for the voluntary invitation to his business operations. Police in KwaZulu-Natal are working tirelessly to regain the trust that the community must have on the police, and no malicious attack on police will be left unchallenged. Nobody is above the law, and any wrongdoings by police must be reported to the relevant authorities, not a miscalculated smear campaign of disseminating fabricated untruths.” -SAPS - eNCAnewsshow more

Tinubu’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, vs. The People... Who Refuse to Let Go! Compatriots, We are pleased to report that Tracy Nicolas Ohiri the businesswoman who was harassed, bullied, arrested, and detained following a dispute involving Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi has finally regained her freedom on bail. Her release did not happen by chance. It was the result of collective vigilance and sustained civic resistance that began from the moment she was arrested in Lagos and subsequently transferred to Abuja by the Nigeria Police Force. Yesterday, Mrs. Ohiri was brought before the Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja. The presiding magistrate, Ope Ibraheem, heard arguments on bail and granted her release despite opposition from the police prosecutor. The court made it clear that she was entitled to bail under the law. However, what followed was brazen assault on due process. After the court granted bail and the sureties, including myself, fulfilled the conditions set by the magistrate, there were immediate efforts and high level conspiracy to frustrate her release. The police prosecutor mobilized Correctional officials, and immediate attempts were made within the system to secure a fake detention or remand order that would override the bail already granted and duely processed. The police sent a contingent of armed policemen to spirit her to prison until members of the Takeitback Movement resisted their efforts In the midst of this, today Tracy collapsed while in custody. Rather than prioritize her health, Correctional officers resisted allowing her to receive proper medical attention. Even after she was admitted to Wuse District Hospital, they arrived with full force to move her to Keffi for profiling. It took the sustained presence and intervention of concerned citizens at the hospital to ensure that she was not forcibly removed and that her medical needs were respected. More troubling still, we discovered indications that her detention documentation had been irregularly processed; it was forged. Such practices point to a deeply disturbing pattern within the Nigeria criminal justice chain, where administrative tools are manipulated to prolong detention and congest Nigerian prisons with largely awaiting trial inmates. I have personally experienced similar circumstances as recently as October 2025. The good news today is that Tracy Ohiri is free not because the system worked seamlessly, but because citizens refused to look away. We extend our gratitude to the legal team led by Marshal D F Abubakar, alongside Wayne Chikeze Seeker, Barrister Umez Prince Mandela, Chike Anago, A. K. Musa, and Tamuno Tonye-Ekundayo, whose unflinching dedication was instrumental to her release. Let's also acknowledge the steadfast support of her family, especially her husband, as well as civic actors and supporters who stood firm throughout, powerfully present was FLAG BOY NG , Mamapee, Verydarkblackman, Rex Elanu, Comrade Oshioks Philip, Olanrewaju Adeyemo, Faith Enattah Orinya, and Take it back Movement, as well as African Action Congress leaders. We must not fail to mention the role of medics at Wuse District Hospital who immediately provided lifesaving support as first responders. Senator Sen. Ireti Kingibe was present throughout and made high-level interventions to ensure that Tracy Ohiri could reunite with her little children and complete her medical treatment. We reiterate our clear and non-negotiable position to the Acting Inspector-General of Police, TUNJI DISU, that policing must not be deployed at the behest of powerful interests to harass citizens, whether under allegations of criminal defamation, provisions of the Cybercrime Act, or Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPP). The integrity of the Nigeria Police Force and all of its police units must depend on people's rights, respect for the law, and real law enforcement. The trial against Tracy Ohiri should be immediately discontinued. Nigeria deserves a police institution that protects the vulnerable, not one shielding only the powerful. Today, Tracy Ohiri is home. And that is a victory for vigilance, solidarity, and the rule of law.show more

Report on Recently Abducted Alawite Women in 2026 This... report was prepared by Syria Justice Archive Syria Justice Archive following contact with a group of human rights activists, the families of the girls, and community sources. 1. Mariam Faez Sultan, Age 16 Abducted on January 9, 2026, in the Mezzeh area of Damascus (she lives in the Mezzeh 86 neighborhood, which has an Alawite majority, within the broader Mezzeh district). After contact with her family, her father confirmed she had been abducted. Strangely, he offered thanks and praise to the “General Security” after learning that the caller belonged to a team working with the UN Office of Investigations. Nevertheless, as of the writing of this report, March 8, 2026, the girl remains abducted. 2.Lana Al-Suleiman, Age 18 Abducted on March 1, 2026, in the Burj Al-Ghanum area in the city of Masyaf, Hama countryside. She was released two days later on March 3, 2026, and was compelled to appear in an interview stating she had not been abducted and had simply been at a friend’s house. It should be noted that our team and most documentation pages recently chose not to publish abduction cases, and that the girl appeared in posts on Facebook from her local area indicating she had been missing, yet none of the posts mentioned abduction. We were unable to contact her family. 3. Layal Ibrahim Abdullah, Age 25, Married Abducted on February 22, 2026, while traveling by public transport from the town of Slunfeh toward the city of Latakia to visit a doctor for a previously scheduled appointment. All hospitals were checked; she was not found. Layal was released on February 27, 2026. A documentation team contacted her family, who confirmed she had been held for four days, but refused to provide details, saying: “What matters is that she came back.” 4. Alma Elia Saleh, Age 14 Abducted at Karsana Square in the city of Latakia on March 4, 2026. After contact with her family, her mother was in a state of breakdown and confirmed that her daughter was missing, adding that they had filed a report with security forces. The girl was released one day later on March 5, 2026. Unofficial sources reported that the Coastal Police Station arrested the abductor and secured the girl’s release. 🔹Our sources confirmed that following a visit by the UN Investigation Team to Damascus, during which files on kidnapped Alawite women since 2025 were presented, the HTS-led General Security is now pressuring abductors to release the girls within days. This marks a shift from the previous pattern of denying abductions and shielding perpetrators. In several instances, units of the General Security or HTS factions were themselves involved in the abductions, as in the case of Abeer Suleiman from 2025 (cited as one example among others), who has not been released to this day. At the time of her abduction, General Security personnel in the city of #Safita contacted the abductors in Idlib to warn them that her family had filed a complaint — less than half an hour after her father and brother had done so. Over the past year and continuing to the present, dozens of Alawite women abducted since 2025 remain unreleased. The total number of abduction cases from 2025 exceeds 80 documented cases. One case from 2026 (Mariam Sultan) also remains unresolved. All cases are fully documented.show more
