This is a bacterial flagellar motor … one of... nature’s most sophisticated molecular machines - a rotary motor embedded in the cell membrane consisting of ~25-30 protein types totaling 20,000-50,000 atoms in a multi-part structure of rotor, stator, drive shaft, and propeller. Scientists are baffled by this. The Bacterial Flagellum is... composed of 20-30 unique parts. Combined, they total over 30,000 parts that make this little motor run. It can hit rotation speeds of up to 100,000 RPM, then stop & reverse direction in a quarter of a turn. It can propel a bacteria up to 20 lengths per second, which when scaled up is about equal to 225mph in a car. But this motor only works when all those parts are perfectly engineered and working together. Take away just one of those 30 pieces, and it stops functioning. That means it can't evolve gradually. None of the pieces do anything outside the system, and the system only works with all the pieces. Bacteria require this motor to move - without it, they would quickly die. Skin color is the least significant biological difference between... the races. The far more significant differentiator is PSYCHOLOGICAL. Different races have dramatically different hardware in their brains, which leads to different types of cultures and societies being built by those people. For this reason among many others, #Multiculturalism will never work. It will ALWAYS end in conflict, as different racial tribes with different genetic wiring will always want different things, and prefer different social structures that support their cultural desires. #Nationalism is about giving all of these different groups their own sovereign nations where they can live peacefully amongst their own kind, and pursue their tribal destiny together without the constant stress of needing to fight clashing values or demographic dilution from foreign outsiders. System identification (sysid) is the process of finding the... physical parameters that make a simulation match reality. If you're training an RL locomotion policy in simulation, the accuracy of your motor model directly affects how well the policy transfers to the real robot. A recent git commit by Kevin Zakka added a sysid toolbox to MuJoCo which automates this process: you provide recorded motor data and a MuJoCo model, and it optimizes the model parameters to minimize the difference between simulated and real trajectories. For my RobStride Dynamics RS02 QDD motors (17 Nm peak, 7.75:1 gear), I built a Rust tool that sends multi-sine torque excitation at 1 kHz and records position/velocity feedback. I then feed this data into MuJoCo's sysid optimizer.show more
