On January 11, 1992, Nirvana performed live on U.S.... television for the first time for their Saturday Night Live debut. It was just a few months after 'Nevermind' came out and on the day of this performance, the album topped Michael Jackson's 'Dangerous' for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts. Nirvana performed the obvious hit, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," but chose “Territorial Pissings” as their second song—a risky move given that it's arguably the most feral song on 'Nevermind.'
