I think I’m close to a burn out. For... the last few weeks it feels like I haven’t been able to think. Let alone do deep work. My brain just draws a blank. Super frustrating. Even thinking what tiles I should put into our new house feels like too much already. The first few weeks I tried to force myself to work anyway. Obviously made it even worse. So, this week I decided I’m just going to take a break. Go on hikes, drive my bike, read books and play video games. I had this before and eventually it would go away. Made me realise though that I should put guards into place for the next time. Building a team is part of this. Focus on what I like to do and get help with all other tasks. STEVE-1: A Generative Model for Text-to-Behavior in Minecraft paper... page: Constructing AI models that respond to text instructions is challenging, especially for sequential decision-making tasks. This work introduces an instruction-tuned Video Pretraining (VPT) model for Minecraft called STEVE-1, demonstrating that the unCLIP approach, utilized in DALL-E 2, is also effective for creating instruction-following sequential decision-making agents. STEVE-1 is trained in two steps: adapting the pretrained VPT model to follow commands in MineCLIP's latent space, then training a prior to predict latent codes from text. This allows us to finetune VPT through self-supervised behavioral cloning and hindsight relabeling, bypassing the need for costly human text annotations. By leveraging pretrained models like VPT and MineCLIP and employing best practices from text-conditioned image generation, STEVE-1 costs just $60 to train and can follow a wide range of short-horizon open-ended text and visual instructions in Minecraft. STEVE-1 sets a new bar for open-ended instruction following in Minecraft with low-level controls (mouse and keyboard) and raw pixel inputs, far outperforming previous baselines. We provide experimental evidence highlighting key factors for downstream performance, including pretraining, classifier-free guidance, and data scaling. All resources, including our model weights, training scripts, and evaluation tools are made available for further research.show more

( That Mvua Mdogo, you said ) In all the years since these houses were built in the early 80s, they have stood firm and never suffered such damage. They were built to last, and they have lasted, until now. The unplanned high-rises have been springing up all around our property for the past couple of years. Construction is happening beacon to beacon, without proper infrastructure, drainage, or consideration for existing homes. This reckless building is choking the systems that once worked, and now homes that survived four decades of Nairobi weather are being flooded. The video shared by a neighbour speaks for itself. Houses are flooded, tenants are distressed, and I now face a tenant who was meant to move in this month asking questions about safety. Who will compensate us? Benjamin Benny Rapoza was reported missing from Hilo, Hawaii,... on 20 December 2019 at the age of five. He is a non verbal autistic child. His family has endured years without resolution. A video now circulating asserts that a disturbing clip found among the Epstein materials depicts a boy bearing a striking resemblance to Benny half his face painted green and red, positioned beside an adult male in a pink wig with matching paint. Hawaii Police explicitly addressed this same footage in 2020, stating that the juvenile shown is not Benny Rapoza. Yet the questions persist. Why does this imagery continue to surface in connection with the Epstein files? Why has comprehensive public clarification and closure remained elusive for more than six years? We do not do coincidence when the protection of children and the exposure of predatory networks are concerned. It’s been 24 hours, and I’m still trying to... process losing Harry. For the last two years, Harry and I spoke almost every day. We had both been through a lot in life, and somehow we randomly connected at Satoshi Roundtable. We quickly realized our worlds had crossed in more ways than we knew, including mutual friends going all the way back to the early YC days. Harry became much more than a friend. He taught me an enormous amount. He challenged the way I thought. He was, without question, one of the smartest people I have ever known. I want to say this publicly because whatever people may read about Harry or the circumstances surrounding his death, I want people to know the human being I knew. Harry had one of the biggest hearts. He was extraordinarily intelligent, deeply curious, generous with what he knew, and relentlessly progressive in how he thought about technology and the future. He came from very little, built an extraordinary life and fortune, and never lost his willingness to share what he had learned with the people around him. There are still many unanswered questions about what happened, and I’m not prepared to draw conclusions. I hope the truth becomes clear in time. For now, I want to focus on Harry’s life, not his death. He taught a lot of people a lot of things. I was fortunate enough to be one of them. I’ll carry those lessons forward for the rest of my life. Tomorrow is a big day for me. I’m going... to do an activity in my daughter’s class (she’s 5), and I’ll be teaching them what AI is. She’s excited about it, but honestly, I think I’m even more excited. I’ll tell them a little bit of history, we’ll play some games… I’ll try to make it as fun as possible, but always with a focus on ethical and responsible use. Of course, it won’t be a tutorial on how to use any tools, lol. They’re still very young, and in my opinion, it’ll be years before they actually need to start using these tools. But I think it’s important for them to start getting some awareness so they can be prepared for the future that’s coming their way.show more
