#Syria: tensions erupted last night in Qusseir (SW. #Homs)... after rumors spread that Hezbollah-affiliated families (Shiite Lebanese) entered the country via the Jussiyah border crossing. The rumors triggered a popular mob, and several vehicles carrying returning people (who were actually Syrians) were stopped. Security forces intervened and brought the situation under control. Severe tensions and rumors have been circulating for days, prompting the Director of Borders and Crossings to clarify that the people entering were Syrians and that anyone arriving from Lebanon undergoes the usual security checks. Similarly, a state utilizing a strait to launch an offensive against a coastal state effectively designates that area as a theater of war. Consequently, this situation invokes Article 51 of the U.N. Charter on the right of self-defense, in accordance with a "peremptory norm" that supersedes standard navigation rules. It also invokes the doctrine of rebus sic stantibus (a fundamental change of circumstances), which justifies a legal recalibration of the principles of free and safe passage, balanced against the legitimate security concerns of the coastal state. Update of the situation in Syria - the YPG... moved in to fill the security vacuum left by the Syrian regime’s army - YPG is now in control of Aleppo international airport, Deir Hafir, Tal Arn and Maskanah alongside several other points. Essentially establishing a Kurdish corridor towards Aleppo - North of Aleppo the Kurdish forces from Tal Rifaat took control of Nubl and Zahra cities - it is only a matter of time until the Kurdish corridor will be in direct confrontation with the Turkish led SNA offensive on the same region. - Tal Rifaat is bracing for an imminent attack - Kurdish neighbourhood in Aleppo has finished all Defensive preparations - Syrian regime is still inside Aleppo - in the eastern region of Aleppo they are retreating. Delusional? When Religion Is Mocked for Politics The recent... remarks made by the U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth Pete Hegseth are deeply inflammatory and deserving of serious criticism. While addressing Iran’s nuclear issue, he referred to Islamic prophecies as “delusional.” Such language is not only disrespectful to millions of Muslims worldwide, but it also dangerously shifts what is presented as a political and strategic matter into the realm of religious confrontation. If the U.S. position toward Iran is truly grounded in national security and geopolitical considerations, then invoking and mocking religious beliefs undermines that claim. Introducing theology into a political conflict exposes bias and damages credibility. It sends a troubling signal that the issue is not purely strategic, but ideologically charged. Now compare it with the statement of US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee few weeks ago when in an interview with Tucker Carlson , he expressed that Israel has a divine right to whole of Middle east from the Nile river in Egypt to Euphrates in Iraq, and "it would be fine if they take it all" as it has been promised in Genesis 15 to the descendants of Abraham. One must ask: if someone were to describe those biblical prophecies as “delusional,” would that not immediately be condemned as offensive or even antisemitic? Respect for faith cannot be selective. Even while defining "delusion" in terms of psychiatry, they exclude religious beliefs. Transforming a geopolitical conflict into a theological or ideological struggle is reckless and dangerous. It deepens divisions, fuels resentment, and risks escalating tensions far beyond diplomatic or strategic boundaries. Political disputes must remain political; once they are framed as religious battles, the consequences become far more volatile. Such statements deserve clear condemnation from Muslim leaders and from all those who believe in equal respect for religious traditions.
