I spent a month in Shenzhen visiting factories and... robotics companies, and the contrast with the U.S. was striking. While Figure and Boston Dynamics hide their humanoids behind closed doors, Chinese companies have massive showrooms open to the public. But what really stood out wasn't just the transparency, it was how good they are at selling. Take UBTech: they've already sold 1,200 humanoid units at $200k each to factories. And here's the kicker, these robots aren't even that useful yet. They can only pick up and drop boxes at 1/10th the speed of a human, and factories still need to hire system integrators to train them for specific tasks. My theory is that these factories are terrified of getting left behind in the robotics/AI wave. They're investing in new tech not because it's ready, but because they can't afford to wait. The second surprise was the breadth of their robotics portfolio. These companies aren't just building humanoids, they're deploying service robots everywhere: restaurants, hotels, apartments. Consumer robots are cleaning houses, pools, pet waste, dishes. They're covering the entire spectrum. But the education piece shocked me most. I picked up what I thought was a high school or college robotics textbook, it was for primary school. The government mandated AI and robotics education starting in elementary school. Almost every single school in China now has AI and robotics curriculum, complete with education robots so kids can learn by building. They're creating a generation that grows up fluent in robotics and AI. China owns the supply chain and the hardware stack. But here's what I think people are missing: the race isn't just about who can build robots faster or cheaper. The U.S. advantage has always been in the layer between hardware and human, the interaction design, the software intelligence, the intuitive interfaces that make complex technology feel natural. China is building the physical infrastructure, but they're also learning fast. Every deployed service robot, every classroom full of kids building with education kits, every factory running humanoids, that's all data collection at scale. The window for the U.S. to establish its wedge is narrowing. It's not enough to be better at AI or software anymore. We need to be building the integration layer, the intelligence that makes physical AI actually useful, not just impressive in a showroom. Because right now, China isn't just manufacturing robots. This past round of broilers from the farm has... been monumental. I began working with a new chick supplier after searching for a new processor - ended up picking up chickens off a semi truck with 20,000 chickens at about 4AM. Label on top - “non vaccinated” or some derivative. We had the most successful brooder setup we’ve ever run - using Ohio Brooders we had the lowest mortality rate and best performance we’ve seen for three years. Building on past experiences we improved everything - soaked / fermented feed, water availability, movements across the pastures - we pushed these chickens into parts of our pastures we’ve never intentionally had chicken. They moved frequently, grew quickly, and ended up dressing out at higher weights than we’ve ever seen - especially considering we don’t feed soybeans! I worked with two USDA Processors, both who air-chill, coordinated with logistics including reefer truck transportation, established a relationship with a cold-chain facility and now have our freezers stocked to re-open new sales tomorrow. All pre-orders shipped and delivered. All new orders can begin tomorrow (as long as I get the website updated). We anticipate the scale of which we’re operating to grow to full time business in 2026. We’re excited - we’re scared and we’re thankful to everyone who has followed along. While learning Unreal Engine 5, I decided to port... over most of Hyperion to it to see if I could potentially move my workflows over to UE5. Although it worked decently well, it didn't work well enough to allow me to change over entirely. Hyperion is simply too complex of an asset for real-time workflows (or at least is limited due to my knowledge of said workflows). 131 4K-8K UDIMs at over 8 channels and a solid amount of shaders with layering being the biggest bottleneck. I couldn't even match the shading setup to what I have in RenderMan, UE gave me a warning that the material was too complex. I was using the new Substrate materials, which mimic RenderMan LAMA shaders. The render below is using the pathtracer. As you can see there are some random flickering parts which I couldn't fix during my tests. This render of course doesn't have any displacement either (which Hyperion heavily relies on). I think Unreal Engine has a very bright future, but it is still limited by todays hardware technology for high end VFX work. Maybe in a few years I will give it another try when hardware improves and the engine becomes a bit more versatile in feature-set.show more

So far the offensive has not been successful with ENDF facing heavy losses, with large scale civilian massacres reported in retaliation for these losses. At the same time, ENDF has been observed redeploying troops and heavy weaponry from South Gonder and other parts of the Amhara region toward Tigray. ENDF forces have reportedly been withdrawn from 13 of the 18 woredas in South Gonder, including Hamusit, Ibnat, Meketewa, Arb Gebeya, Welela Behar, Aja, Ayisa, Muja, and Wegeda, and shifted northward. TPLF has also been seen moving troops and heavy weapons toward Welkait and Telemt from Sudan, Shiraro, and Dedebit. A sizable force, along with logistics and heavy weaponry, has also been deployed yesterday in Maychew and Mehoni along the Raya front, signaling preparations for another offensive. The latest statement by Ethiopian FM Gedion Timothewos Hessebon further reinforces the likelihood of escalation, suggesting that the question is no longer if a war with Eritrea will occur, but when. Look at the tips of her fingers. The marble... is turning into leaves... This is the most astonishing detail in Bernini's Apollo and Daphne, in the Galleria Borghese in Rome. Daphne, fleeing the god Apollo, has begged to be saved, and at the instant he catches her she begins to turn into a laurel tree. Bernini carved the exact second it happens, and the change starts at her hands: her raised fingers are sprouting laurel leaves, so thin that in bright light they turn faintly translucent, the way a real leaf glows when you hold it up to the sun. To understand what that took, consider what marble actually is. It is heavy, brittle, and utterly unforgiving. A single slip, one vibration too many, and a leaf that took days to carve shatters, and there is no putting it back. When the sculpture was restored in 1997, conservators discovered how Bernini protected this fragile growth while he worked: he had wrapped the thinnest, most delicate parts in little cushions of plaster, to shield them from the vibrations traveling through the stone as he carved the rest. The same restoration revealed his real secret... The leaves and the strands of windblown hair are riddled with the marks of a bow drill, a tool that bores holes into stone. But Bernini did not drill straight in, which would have left round, mechanical holes. On the tiny leaves at Daphne's fingertips, he tilted the drill at an angle, cutting long shallow grooves instead, so the marble would mimic the natural veins and splits of a living leaf. He was imitating the way foliage actually grows. I wrote this so that the next time a sculpture detail takes your breath away, you do not see only marble. You see the months of patience of a human being who chose to spend part of his short life turning cold stone into a living leaf, so that four hundred years later a stranger would stop and feel something... Blue-Green Algae at Red Bud Isle☠️🐶 Austin, TX -... Austin Watershed Protection staff have observed thick mats of blue-green algae, some of which may be toxic, notably near Red Bud Isle on Lady Bird Lake and at Walsh Boat Landing on Lake Austin. Samples were collected at all six monitoring sites on the lakes for testing. At this time of year, blue-green algae mats may be present in other parts of either lake and our creeks. Community members should be cautious and avoid contact with algae. They should keep dogs away from water with algae mats. The mats usually look like dark blobs floating on the surface and can be mixes of different kinds of algae. They may be mixed in with aquatic vegetation. As the weather continues to heat up, conditions for algae will become more favorable, and we expect to see more in our waterways. Assess Before You Enter Waterways If any of the following conditions are present, stay out of the water. They could indicate reduced water quality. •Algae along the shoreline •Stagnant, warm or murky water •Scum or surface film. In addition, do not enter the water if there has been rain in the past three days. After Entering the Water •Do not drink water directly from natural water bodies. •Avoid contact with algae. •Rinse skin, hair, and animal fur thoroughly after contact with water. •Do not allow pets to lick their fur before rinsing them off. If you or your pet experiences sudden, unexplained illness after swimming, contact your medical provider or veterinarian immediately. Residents are encouraged to report suspected human or animal illnesses related to algae using the City’s online reporting form. The mats of blue-green algae present at Red Bud Isle are similar in appearance to conditions in May and June in previous years. For the past five years, we have applied lanthanum-modified clay to manage sediment phosphorus in an effort to reduce the growth of algae as part of a $1.5 million pilot program. This year is a control year with no application so we can evaluate the effectiveness of the pilot program and whether it is beneficial to continue investing public funds at the previous level. The line in question: 🗣️ “Her Kid can’t even pick their kids up nor take him,,, Enough Of Them …” Then he goes to the maga lines To me the wording appeared to be fumbled, intentionally. but the meaning is still loud and clear This Might Be A Triple Entendre If I’m Hearing This Correctly… The line: 🗣️ “Her kid, can’t even pick their kids up nor take him …” On the surface, it sounds simple. But if Jay-Z intentionally delivered it the way he did, there could be multiple layers to what’s being said. 1️⃣ He could be referring to Nicki Minaj’s husband as “her kid,” essentially portraying him as someone she has to take care of rather than an equal partner. 2️⃣ The line could be interpreted as a reference to her husband’s legal history, implying he can’t perform normal parental responsibilities like picking up or taking a child to school. 3️⃣ This is the really foul and disrespectful one from. 💜 One Last Update! 💜 Last week when we... were in Minnesota for Clark’s 6-month follow-up for his clinical trial, of all the tests they ran, the one we were both most anxious and most eager to see results from was his brain MRI. For children with untreated Sanfilippo Type A, it’s typical to see 2–5% loss of brain volume each year, along with enlargement of the ventricles (the fluid-filled spaces in the brain). This is one of the most heartbreaking parts of the disease — watching the brain slowly lose tissue and function over time. We were so nervous that Clark’s MRI might show some loss compared to his baseline scan 6 months ago. But the results came back and… ✨ ZERO change. ✨ His brain volume and ventricle size were completely stable — no loss at all. This is such an incredible sign that the treatment may be doing exactly what it’s meant to: clearing the toxic waste from his brain cells and protecting his brain from further damage. If feel that it is SO important for us to share these results as they come because people need to be FULLY aware that these treatments that are out there WORK. These children with Sanfilippo do not need to regress and they DEFINITELY do not have to have their lives cut short. We just need the FDA to say yes. The return fire by the “snipers” sounds exactly the same as the first 3 rounds fired at PDJT. And they sound NOTHING like an AR-15 whatsoever. Then there’s one lone round 11 seconds after the 5 rounds returned by “snipers” who are all around and had the target identified as the media says “they were told by Secret Service to hold their fire until the shooter engaged”… PLUS those on the roof behind President Trump were closer to the location of the gunman than PDJT, so, 350-450 feet away. So, are you telling me that trained snipers needed more than one round for a lone shooter? Are you telling me that trained snipers with an identified target were told to “stand down” until engagement? Are you tellling me that that trained snipers with an identified target allowed a lone round 11 seconds after return engagement? And/or needed another round 11 seconds after 5 returned on a lone wolf shooter? You clearly know NOTHING about snipers if you say ‘yes’ on one, a combo, or all of those. That alone doesn’t even need to follow up with the location, sound, angle, trajectory, but just because… A perpendicularly shot given the evidence… wouldn’t be the top of the ear pierced.
