An Oldie but a Goldie. Approach ➜ Power V... One of the biggest keys to a consistent swing is what happens from approach to Power V. As the knob turns toward the pitcher and into the path of the pitch, the barrel naturally falls behind your hands. We don’t need to flick it back to have it fall behind..DUH From there, don’t throw the barrel at the ball. Release it in the most direct line along the path of the pitch. Some pitches require a slightly steeper path. Others require a flatter one. But the goal stays the same: ✔️ Keep the barrel below your hands through extension. Approach = The barrel works to the side of the shoulder as the body turns toward the pitcher. Power V = The release of the lag and extension of the barrel through the baseball. Master that section of the swing, and you’ll give yourself a much better chance to create consistent contact, adjust to different pitch planes, and produce real power. Darien Smith (Southeastern Baseball) may be one of the... best unsigned arms still on the board following the MLB Draft. He had good command of his 4SFB (up to 15.9 iVB) that averaged 92.7 mph (T95) and mixed in a sinker that could run under the hands of RHH with up to 18.8 in HZ break (per Trackman Baseball). There was good feel with his tight SL (avg 82.7, ~2500 rpm) which was used to attack hitters and induce GB's. His sweeper played more as a chase pitch out of the zone (29% usage combined). The circle CH (avg 83.9) might have been the most effective put-out pitch in his start on 7/30. It had a CSW% of 28.6% at 11.3% usage. It generated 100% whiff and had solid fade down and away against LHH. The NAIA standout won Pitcher of the Year last spring at Southeastern, putting up video game numbers in 2 seasons; 22-2, 182 IP, 2.37 ERA, 257 K, 58 BB.show more

🚨 This video shows that Charlie Cox forgot how... to make eye contact after playing Daredevil. This "method acting" approach became so ingrained that it reportedly cost him other roles. Cox auditioned for the role of a young Han Solo (for Solo: A Star Wars Story). Halfway through, the casting director stopped him to ask why he wasn't looking at them. He spent weeks working with Joe Strechay, a blindness consultant, at the New York State Commission for the Blind to learn how to navigate with a cane and orient himself without looking. He practiced keeping his eyes unfocused and deliberately avoided the natural instinct to look at people when they spoke. During filming, he occasionally wore opaque contact lenses that made him temporarily blind so he wouldn't instinctively track movement with his eyes. He realized he had spent two years training his brain not to make eye contact, a habit that had become an unconscious reflex even in high-stakes professional meetings.show more

Was happy to get my first look at SS... Rock Arnold (OSU Cowboy Baseball) down in Jupiter. Went 1-for-2 in the game I saw him and hammered a backside RBI triple. Recently re-classed into the C/O 2026. Listed at 6'1" and 190-lbs, Arnold has a lean, athletic frame with some length in his lower-half and present strength. Stands fairly tall in the box, small leg lift gives way to a normal stride. Hands will drift and drop a bit in his load that includes a barrel tip. Present bat and hand speed, slightly uphill swing path that's geared towards lifting the baseball. There's a degree of adjustability in Arnold's swing, and he's shown the ability to drop his back knee to help create leverage. Some swing and miss, particularly against secondaries, but Arnold's swing decisions were sound and he stayed within the strike zone in my look. Has shown he can impact the baseball—especially to the pull side. Arnold's athleticism is evident both in the box and on the dirt. Flashed an above-average arm on the left side of the infield with solid carry across the diamond. Didn't display the quickest first step on the play I saw him attempt to make, though he showed comfortability attacking the baseball. Figures to get the chance to stick at shortstop. When bucketing these players out, Arnold fits into a handful of them: He's an athletic, lefthanded hitting SS with present power and potentially more on the way. Definite name to follow closely this spring in the Northeast.show more

Bogoljub Markovic Film + Notes 🧵 Best thing I... saw: Loved his feel for the game. He was so good out of the short roll. Always knew where everyone on the floor was and made quick decisions with the ball. Biggest Concern: He was just throw around like a doll down low. When hedging screens he had such a hard time getting back to his man and being in good position to box out. Even when in good position, he still got thrown around pretty easily. Offense: - Extremely high IQ - Quick decision maker - his shot is super smooth / high release and quick trigger - Really solid feel when catching in the short roll / but hard to get him in good position on the roll bc of him not being big enough to hold guys behind him - great feel for spacing on and off ball - really solid ball handling for his size / had some good moments getting a rebound and pushing the ball up the floor - a lot better finishing through traffic than actually finishing through contact - not really going to be able to create his own shot at any point / it’s either catch and shoot or catch pump fake and drive or catch and finish Defense - Hard for him to get back in position when hedging screens because of the weight - ^ piggy backing off this, thought he had the foot speed and length to hang with guys on the perimeter (Mega Superbet just had really small guards so they had to run this drop to keep them out of bad switches) - is not a big that’s going to excel in drop coverage - wouldn’t classify him as a 5. He’s definitely a 4 - doesn’t offer much rim protection at all - doesn’t offer much help side defense - was bullied down low fighting for rebounds / even when in position he was easily pushed out the wayshow more

INF Gavin Kilen (Tennessee Baseball) will be a key... piece within a loaded Tennessee lineup this season. Earned the starting 2B job as a Freshman and contributed, but broke out last spring to the tune of a .330/.361/.591 slash line with 23 2B, 3 3B, 9 HR and 41 RBIs. Kilen is slightly undersized and has an average build at 5'11 and 180-lbs. Some room to fill out and add ~10 pounds or so. Relaxed, slightly crouched stance in the box with a medium high handset. Minimal load in which his hands drift slightly, leg lift leads into a small stride. Short, compact swing and takes a direct path to contact. Above-average hand speed, it's an operation that's tailored towards spraying line drives all over the yard. Kilen is a hit-over-power profile with an aggressive approach in the box. He has plus bat-to-ball skills and his feel for the barrel is evident. Last spring, Kilen worked a 93% IZ contact rate, including 95% against FB. His aggressive approach and somewhat free-swinger mentality does lead to some chase up against FB and secondaries down, but it hasn't been a hindrance to his production. Kilen pounces on pitches in the zone and steps in the box ready to hit. Would give his hit tool a 55. It's more gap power than it is over the fence power for Kilen, but he did tap into some more impact last season. Part of that is due to getting the ball up in the air more: between '23 and '24 he increased his FB+LD% from 44% to 51%. It will always play as slightly below average (fringy), but he did post a Max EV of 108.5 during the spring and 101.4 this summer. Kilen's HR impact and highest quality of contact comes to the pull side. Vast majority of his XBH power comes on pitches in the bottom-half of the zone, which makes sense given his bat path. Has shown the ability to work from gap-to-gap. Kilen was Louisville's every day SS last spring, but he'll slide over to 2B this season for Tennessee. I actually think that's where he profiles best defensively as a professional, where he has an average arm with some range. After seeing him at SS for a couple of summers, his actions and clock translate better at 2B. Kilen is a day 1 type this July with top-55 overall upside.show more

Nick Dumesnil (California Baptist Baseball) has as much upside... as anyone in the 2025 draft. With question marks early on about how he'd fare against the top arms in the country on the Cape, "Doomey" proved quickly as one of the best players in the summer league circuit. His hands start high with the bat coiled behind his head. While a somewhat unorthodox approach, he's able to get his bat head up and hands lowered upon loading. It's an explosive operation with elite bat speed, averaging as much as 79.9 mph in the CCBL (per @Blast_Bsbl). It's a consistent swing making hard contact and driving the ball to both gaps (led the CCBL with 12 2B). The quick hip hinge allows for a powerful on-time rotation through the ball as he barrels the ball at a high clip (up to 30.4% this summer per Joe Doyle). Then there's the speed. Doomey set the Brewster Whitecap SB record with 26 (27 ATT) in 36 G. His 96.2% success rate is the highest in league history for someone with 20+ steals in a season (per League Statistician). He gets good jumps on the base paths and good reads off the bat defensively. There is some swing and miss to his game. He walks at an average rate (8.6 BB% in the CCBL) and struck out just 12.9% of the time in the WAC but that went up to 21.7% this summer. There's some chase low out of the zone vs break and did way more damage vs LHP (.435/.469/.783; .348 ISO) than RHP (.247/.333/.337; .090 ISO). A true five-tool talent, Nick Dumesnil made a name for himself this summer on the Cape, and will soon be at the top of many teams' draft boards next July.show more

It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got... that swing! “This is my beloved husband, Anthony showing his great golf swing about 2 years prior to his passing from Stage 4 lung cancer July 4, 2024 at the age of 74. I will never forget that morning at the hospital when the doctors said he had 2 to 3 hours to live because the cancer held at bay in the left long for one year had finally consumed the right lung. They gave him morphine to slow his breathing for a more comfortable passing. I’ve since learned that his transition began 6 weeks prior. I called immediate family. We joined a circled around his bed and played his favorite music. I spoke to him through out the day. Ten minutes before passing, he said, “Kiss me.” He was known as a “scratch” player back in the day. He almost entered to play professional golf, but his dad needed him in the family brick laying business in NYC. They did the exterior brick/stone work for many of the high rises including work for Donald Trump.
