Tom Hollander says he accidentally received Tom Holland’s Marvel box office bonus because their agency mixed them up. “I got one from the agency saying, ‘Payment slip for first box office bonus for The Avengers.’” “At that moment, I thought, ‘I don’t think I’m in The Avengers.’” Then he opened the email. “It was an astonishing amount of money.” “It was not his salary. It was his first box office bonus… and it was more money than I’d ever seen.” “It was a seven figure sum.”

Nicolas Cage says Christopher Nolan is among the directors who “get their feelings hurt” after actors turn down their movies. Following the backlash surrounding The Odyssey (2026), Cage revealed he once turned down Nolan’s Insomnia (2002) and claims Nolan never contacted him ever since. “Most of them, they get their feelings hurt and don’t call you back.” Cage then directly named Nolan alongside Woody Allen and Paul Thomas Anderson. “It’s happened a million times to me.” “It’s happened with Christopher Nolan, it’s happened with Woody Allen, it’s happened with Paul Thomas Anderson. John Cena says his agency advised him to reject his cameo in Barbie (2023) as “Kenmaid,” warning it was “beneath him” but he said he doesn't want to be “too big” for a fun opportunity. “I’m not a commodity. I’m a human being, and I operate under the construct that every opportunity is an opportunity.” He explained he understood their concern about protecting his “lead actor” image, but refused to see himself that way and chose to take the role anyway. The cameo happened by chance while he was filming Fast X nearby, where he ran into Margot Robbie, and she happened to pitch the idea on the spot.

🚨 Leaked contract details say Sony Pictures must release a Spider-Man or related movie roughly every 5.5 years. If they fail the rights revert to Marvel Studios / The Walt Disney. This is why Sony keeps making weird Spider-Man spin-offs like Kraven: The Hunter, Morbius and Madame Web, even though they flop. Under its agreement with Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios (now under The Walt Disney Company), Sony has strict production “clocks” tied to the Spider-Man film rights. Sony must generally release a new Spider-Man-related film within about 5 years and 9 months of the previous one. They typically must begin production within roughly 3 years and 9 months of the last release. If Sony releases three films within eight consecutive years, they can extend the timeline — up to five years to start production and seven years to release the next film. What counts: Live-action films, animated projects, and even spin-offs featuring characters from the Spider-Man “basket of rights” can reset the clock. If Sony fails to meet these milestones, the film rights revert entirely back to Marvel and Disney.

When Christopher Nolan initially approached Sir Michael Caine to play Alfred Pennyworth in Batman Begins (2005), Caine was actually highly skeptical. He joked to Nolan that he was far too old to play Batman and asked, “Do you want me to play the butler? What would my dialogues be? ‘Would you like another beverage or more custard?’” To avoid playing a cliché, passive servant, Caine invented an incredibly thorough and specific military backstory for Alfred: Caine decided that Alfred was not a traditionally trained butler who went to service school. Instead, he imagined him as a former Special Air Service (SAS) soldier who had been severely wounded in battle and could no longer fight on the front lines. Because this tough sergeant didn't want to return to civilian life, he took over managing the Sergeants' Mess. Caine explained, “So what that is is you have this very tough ex-S.A.S. guy who knows all about drinks and service and getting sandwiches and coffee, because he had to learn it for the sergeants mess.” In Caine’s backstory, Thomas Wayne visited the SAS headquarters in Herefordshire to see an officer friend. While in the mess, he met this fiercely disciplined, highly capable sergeant and hired him right there to be his personal keeper and protector. When Caine pitched this entire character outline to Christopher Nolan on set, the director absolutely loved it. Nolan looked at him and said, “Oh, I should have written it.” This exact backstory Michael Caine invented was so popular and rich that DC Comics later leaned heavily into Alfred's active military history, and it eventually became the primary foundation for the standalone prequel TV series Pennyworth on Epix.
