She was OUT. She was safe. But her other little girl, Grace, still just a toddler, was somewhere back inside that burning building. Her mother, Bonnie, didn't think twice. She turned around and ran back into the fire. When firefighters fought their way in, they found her. She had wrapped her own body around her daughter, shielding that little girl from the flames and the smoke with everything she had left. Protecting her baby to the very end. Bonnie was found unresponsive, she'd been without oxygen for nearly 15 minutes. She had burns over 48% of her body. First responders and doctors fought for her with everything they had. But on Monday, Bonnie passed away from her injuries. Little Grace, the daughter she shielded with her own body… SURVIVED. She's still in the hospital. As seen in this video, there was a significant fire event. The roof collapsed, and operations shifted to a defensive mode. At this time, crews are unable to enter the building to extinguish remaining hot spots, and excavators will be used to tear it down. Firefighters were on the roof when it collapsed, but they were uninjured, as was the individual seen in the video. Just before 6 a.m. Thursday, the FDNY received a... call for smoke coming from a building at 3435 Dekalb Avenue in the Bronx. Upon arrival, units discovered fire on the sixth floor of the building and in the cockloft. "When we arrived, we had a rapidly extending fire in that cockloft. Members cut the roof, started getting hoselines in place and operating," Deputy Assistant Chief Paul Miller said. "The building had blown-in insulation, which tends to hold the heat and smoke in." Additionally, two vehicles were parked on hydrants in front of the fire building, which delayed responding units in getting water on the fire. Seventy-five units, totaling about 225 fire and EMS members, responded to the 4-alarm fire. Four people suffered minor injuries—two firefighters and two civilians. Army veteran takes his life just one day after... returning from his honeymoon with his wife, delivers his wife a final gift months later. North Carolina woman Isabel Coles says her husband Christopher, took his life just four days after they got married. "In the morning, he was folding laundry, and things were a little weird. I asked him what was wrong, and he said ‘Nothing.’ Then he went downstairs and tried to get out," she said, according to the New York Post. "I stood at the front door and asked what was going on. He got out and started heading towards the woods." Coles says she ran to get her shoes, but by the time she chased after him, he was gone. His body was found in the woods the next day. "He was very hard on himself, always pushing himself. There were no signs, it did take me really off guard." Coles says three months after Christopher passed, she was delivered a bouquet of flowers on Valentine’s Day. "In February, I got a flower delivery from him, and I freaked out. I contacted the florist, and they said he ordered the flowers in September." Coles says she will be running in the Chicago Marathon in October to raise awareness for mental health through the American Foundation for Su*cide Prevention.show more
