The past year has seen me have a renaissance,... in the truest sense… I won’t go into details now but will at some point before long. What has brought so much happiness to my life and those around me this past year has been my falling back in love with sport. Cycling has, and always will be, my number one. Yet I’d forgotten that I simply love sport, not for results but for the sheer joy of doing it, I’d completely forgotten that the health of my mind is intrinsically connected to the health of my body. I’ve rediscovered the love I had for sport that existed before the world of professional cycling took over in the way it did. I’ve been pushing myself and trying new things this past year, indifferent to the results, just out having fun and at times going deeper than I thought I was capable of anymore. Last week I got on a TT bike for the first time in a decade, Factor Bikes built me a bike, I’ve been looking at it for two years and decided it was time to get fitted, getting back on it felt like going home. Anyway, the long and the short of this is that it’s inspired me to create a club to inspire and be inspired. A community for us to share our love for getting out there and doing it, because I’ve realized that although I spend most of my sporting life on my own I derive the most pleasure when feeling part of something. And the Lexi Cox boob saga continues… I gotta... say, for somebody that has been instrumental and helping other girls pursue their own careers, heal from surgeries, get rid of they abusive men’s, etc, I feel it’s time for Lexi to catch a fucking break! Two months ago I verified that not only did we have a replacement implant, but we have multiple or replacement implants, waiting for my eminent need to replace this expander. Fast-forward to Monday, and magically, I was put on a one week waitlist, basically. I’ve been told all sorts of things. What I haven’t been told is, “we will have your device shipped out this evening”… that has made it impossible to set an actual surgery date. I surmise Dr. John Baeke is behind it. Luckily I don’t have to ever see Dr. Baeke again. Him and Dr. Revis belong in the same pig pen. Crossing my fingers that all goes well hopefully next week. Listen, I don’t know shit about fuck, but here... is my honest critique: Ditch the bag, get a good holster and belt system, carry on body. I use a Bawidamann Gotham + Viking Tatics CCW belt and inner belt all day. If you’re going to temple index, meat of the palm on your temple, not muzzle next to Tempe. That was dangerous and silly. We leave our non shooting hand free, it’s not a two handed maneuver. Shit happens. The drill should’ve been stopped immediately there and corrected. Get to cover for a reload, don’t dance around, that mag on the ground is gone, try to be cognizant of your guns condition if you’re doing an emergency reload versus topping off... You can simulate cover with a barricade/change in elevation. Try to use workspace to get it done efficiently. You still need to earn that space back when the gun is back in the fight. We fight, assess, and scan. Take cover, top off, trade up, take off, treat injuries, talk to who needs to be talked to. Deliberately and violently. You look super tense. I think it’s time to slow down and start with the fundamentals. Everything else is a distraction. The drill itself, shooting from retention, is valuable. However there is work to be done to make this applicable IMHO. Otherwise it’s fanfare. I like to start this drill with my non firing hand on my head and elbow extended to the target in a block, then a single handed draw and shooting from retention that is high and tight as possible, otherwise you risk losing that gun. If you want some real practical training, go down to AZ and hit a two day with Warlizard Tactical. In time you will see. It’s a journey, we all grow. I can’t recommend them enough. UPDATE: I’M ABLE TO SPEAK AGAIN!! I been talking... since Tuesday. For those that aren’t familiar with tracheotomies, because of the open hole in my throat, it prevents me from speaking because air goes out the trach rather than up through your voice box. So in order for me to speak, I have a cap called a speaking valve (the purple cap). What it does is cover the trach to allow the air I breathe to go through my nose and mouth again while stopping air from coming out my throat, allowing my voice to come out. It’s a really big adjustment and what should feel like breathing normal doesn’t feel natural at all. I can only wear it for a short time before getting tired for now. A week ago I didn’t even know how to breathe with it on, but last night I had it on for the longest I’ve had so far and it felt comfortable. So there’s hope to getting back to normalcy. I Still have to adjust to my daily life with this thing in my throat. Still not comfortable gaming or sitting for long period of time because of the position I need to be in. It’s getting better though. Hopefully it’s still just part of the healing process. Also. T/W: suicide, eating disorders I’m self-conscious about how I... look. I get criticism on every move I make both publicly and privately. Every time I take an action I hear the potential criticism in my head… but I do it anyway. The criticism does always come. I get criticism on my body too. I can love myself at any size, but the never ending pressure to please everyone and to try to be so strong people can’t criticize me is tiring. Sometimes I wonder if my problems are really my own. When I’m alone, I only have love for myself without an ounce of shame or self-hatred. I like myself and who I see in the mirror. But hate and criticism can eat away at you. “Are they right?” “Should I really be eating that?” “People will judge me.” I’ve never recognized a negative voice in my mind as mine. I can’t think of one person who would say I’m the negative voice in their head either. But the negative voice in my head has left me suicidal before. I don’t hate myself. But sometimes people treat me like they hate me. It’s hard not to internalize it. Today, I want to remind you- you don’t have to hate yourself even when the world treats you like they hate you. It’s safe to make mistakes. It’s safe to love yourself and your body even when others laugh at you. Every time I get a message about how someone loves their body a little more after reading my messages, it reminds me why I keep opening my heart. It’s hope. We all need hope. I wrote it with a female co-harmony in mind and after a chance meeting at Isle of Wight Festival the amazing Swim School agreed to collaborate. Can I just say that Alice is one of the most creative, innovative performers I have ever met.
