Edward Norton was originally considered for a different role... in Kingdom of Heaven (2005), but after reading the script, he lobbied Ridley Scott to play the leprous King Baldwin IV instead. Norton requested not to be credited in the posters or trailers, wanting to preserve the mystery of who was behind the silver mask and add enigma to the character. In a 2007 interview with The Guardian, Norton explained his motivation: "I was just curious about whether the process was extremely different when there's that much going on, and Ridley Scott is a guy who clearly knows how to make films at that scale.
