Apple put a nano-texture layer on the iPhone Duo,... but I don’t think it was the right move. Yes, it’s effective for hiding the crease. But as someone who’s used several folding phones, I know that crease is NOT as big an issue as people make it to be. It’s hardly noticeable once you use your fold for more than a few days. However, the lack of contrast is a much bigger dealbreaker on nano-texture/matte displays. I don’t like matte screens at all. To the point I’d even trade my monitor’s matte screen for a glossy one, even tho it would mean dramatically more reflections. I’d take the reflections over the lack of contrast. A matte screen is like turning your OLED into an IPS for no reason.show more

Heads up! Samsung has introduced a very useful upgrade... to the Privacy Display feature on the Galaxy S26 Ultra in One UI 9. For example, if you've enabled Privacy Display only for YouTube, when you minimize the video into Picture in Picture (PiP) and return to the home screen, only the PiP window will remain protected by Privacy Display. Your home screen and other apps will no longer be affected. In previous versions, once Privacy Display was enabled, the entire screen stayed in privacy mode, even after switching to PiP, making it much less flexible. This means One UI 9 finally supports independent Privacy Display for Picture in Picture. It keeps your PiP content private without affecting the rest of the interface, making the feature much more practical than before.show more

Sharing some more UI previews for Superlogical, this time... the "tab peek." If you three-finger swipe down, you can "peek" at the other session tabs. These are live-updating, metal-rendered previews including splits. If you keep dragging, you enter a "mission control" style mode. This is one of those UI patterns that once you get used to, you mindlessly find yourself doing it ALL THE TIME. It's a great way to quickly take a look at everything thats going on. You aren't reading the mini text of course, but the shape of it tells you a lot about where things are. The peek pushes the terminal down off screen, it doesn't resize it, so it doesn't force any weird reflow or anything either. There's a lot more to talk about, especially about how this interacts with how we expose what needs attention so you can easily find the terminals/sessions/etc. that require your attention. A wrist force sensor fires at 100Hz. The policy... only ever sees it at 30Hz, downsampled to land on the same control step as the camera and the joint state. That's not a bug, it's the whole point, and it sits inside a bigger pattern in VLA research this year. Every major release has been Markovian at its core, mapping the current frame straight to the next action. The fix everyone reaches for is more vision: more history frames, longer image context. FM-VLA makes a clean case that the fix is the wrong channel for a whole class of tasks. Press a button three times and stop. A camera watching that has almost nothing to work with, the scene barely changes between press one and press three. Force doesn't have that ambiguity problem. Each press is a sharp, distinct spike in the wrench signal, whether or not the camera noticed anything at all. So FM-VLA doesn't add more frames. It compresses the wrench history into eight tokens with a VAE, pretrained purely on reconstructing force signals, frozen before it ever touches the policy, then hands those tokens to the action expert alongside a short window of joint state. That's the entire memory system. Averaged across three contact-rich tasks, FM-VLA hits 83.3 percent success against 33.3 percent for the strongest vision-memory baseline on the button-counting task specifically, where the ambiguity problem is worst, 72.2 percent for FM-VLA there. Strip out the short-state window and force-only performance drops well below the combined system, so force alone isn't the answer either. The two channels are doing different jobs. The field has defaulted to one memory channel for every kind of temporal problem. This is a clean data point that the channel should match the ambiguity you're actually trying to resolve, not just get bigger.
