The past year has seen me have a renaissance,... in the truest sense… I won’t go into details now but will at some point before long. What has brought so much happiness to my life and those around me this past year has been my falling back in love with sport. Cycling has, and always will be, my number one. Yet I’d forgotten that I simply love sport, not for results but for the sheer joy of doing it, I’d completely forgotten that the health of my mind is intrinsically connected to the health of my body. I’ve rediscovered the love I had for sport that existed before the world of professional cycling took over in the way it did. I’ve been pushing myself and trying new things this past year, indifferent to the results, just out having fun and at times going deeper than I thought I was capable of anymore. Last week I got on a TT bike for the first time in a decade, Factor Bikes built me a bike, I’ve been looking at it for two years and decided it was time to get fitted, getting back on it felt like going home. Anyway, the long and the short of this is that it’s inspired me to create a club to inspire and be inspired. A community for us to share our love for getting out there and doing it, because I’ve realized that although I spend most of my sporting life on my own I derive the most pleasure when feeling part of something. But because I was not “ideal” and labeled a “tweener”, I sat excitedly, yet angrily, awaiting my name to be called. But as I grew in my walk with Christ, I began to understand that, for the believer, delay is often God’s setup. That frustration… that anger… I was blessed by the Lord to harness those emotions, to build something far greater than what I imagined possible… that chip on my shoulder became an asset to my new teammates, organization, home & fan base, not a liability!! Ok guys, I've been sitting on this for a... while and finally got my thoughts together. Since the album came out, I've always noticed the second temporary heaven sounds slightly different. If you listen closely with headphones, he doesn't pronounce the M and makes a 'ruary' sound like February. I looked into Sunflowers in February and this book came up. Makes perfect sense with his recent interviews and meaning of other songs in the album. #RDC24 was the best one yet.. but let's talk... about the part of RDC that nobody does. I've been doing panels / presenting for nearly 10 years. I love doing it. And every time, I am so nervous that I don't eat food for a day before. Talking to other presenters I realized this anxiety is common and I'm not alone. We were doing push-ups 30 seconds before going on stage to try and calm the nerves. So I wanted to give a huge props to every presenter & panelist who pushes through the fear and puts on a brave face so that we can help pull off an amazing conference. I don't know how JParty makes it look so effortless - because I can promise it isn't! The whole process of putting together the "I hate... cowboys" record and the "go down singin'" record was a long two years of figuring out how do something I've never done before. All the songs were written on guitar and a depth I haven't really hit before. This is the final piece of that puzzle. "The fireside sessions" are both those albums together, all acoustic, featuring the songwriters from both those records. This time in my career ends with both album covers together with me and my dad standing next to each other. It's the first time I've ever been able to see a picture of us as two grown men. I'm moving on to another album early next year, but I hope y'all love these versions of the songs, as they were written. Sorry if I did not answer many of you.... I’ve never been a fan of the online eulogy. The immediate fallout is always about loved ones. And we should leave those closest be. And then I realised of course I was just incredibly upset, and a large digital outpouring is inevitable and testament to his character. My devastation came from having to watch it all unfold. From spending years trying to help and actually getting him close to a point where he almost had a normal life again - then being powerless to stop him doing things he should not have. Powerless in every sense as it also meant it sometimes not being my place to say anything. In the end watching some of the evil shits around enable the worst of it was too much for me, I had to step back it was too painful to watch. I told my mate who was filling in for me looking after him “ah I just need some space from it all, I’ll be back with him after Christmas” and then suddenly there was no Christmas. And it turned out no one was to blame, and I immediately looked to blame myself most of all, fearing the worst. But it was a simple accident in the end. A bolt out of the blue. So if you are ever estranged or overwhelmed by friends and family and think it will all be OK one day - DON’T put it off. Reach out now. Grab that person and hold them tight. There may not be a tomorrow. You might not be around to see them off. There may not be the grand luxury of time available you thought there was. He died in the arms of his beloved son, and that is a measure of comfort, if a passing can ever have any. He was my mentor, my friend and my glad burden.
