Today, Mzinga turns four and it's hard to believe... this tiny baby and our confident and capable Nursery little leader are one and the same elephant! A stroke of incredible luck saved her life. There she was – a tiny elephant calf, barely a month old, standing utterly alone on Msinga Hill. The vastness of Tsavo stretching around her, making her impossibly small. Then came a miracle: our Works Manager spotted her as he drove along. From such fragile and vulnerable beginnings, Mzinga has blossomed - thanks in no small part to the dedicated care offered by her Keepers, countless bottles of milk and your support. She's now inseparable from her best friend Nyambeni and has become rather infamous for her peculiar talents - eating whilst lying down and, most remarkably, climbing trees. Join us in wishing our resourceful and inventive girl the happiest of birthdays. Drop your birthday wishes below! Adopt Mzinga:show more

Cats have a reputation for being independent, but when... they truly bond with another cat, the connection can be surprisingly strong. Cats that grow up together or trust each other often sleep curled together, groom one another, and even develop routines like eating or exploring at the same time. Grooming is a huge sign of trust in cat language because it leaves them vulnerable, so when one cat cleans another's face or ears, it's basically friendship at the highest level. Some bonded cats even copy each other's behavior, from playing styles to favorite sleeping spots, like tiny furry roommates who accidentally become alike over time.show more

So this happened… These two little preemies were born... in 40 degrees two days ago, we had no idea their mama was even pregnant. The short story is mama was a mastermind at sneaking in and out of areas she didn’t belong and the billy pen was one, I guess. No bag, we thought she was just chubby like the rest of them. Sneaky, as we called her, did not make it. Something ruptured during birth and she passed away yesterday despite all efforts to save her. On a beautiful sunny day, she joined Bartholomew under his tree. The babies got colostrum and after a day and a half of not wanting to suckle much or stand, they are eating, learning to get up and improving. Once they’re strong enough, they’ll go into the barn nursery and join the goatie herd. Both boys and both tiny at just over a pound each, they need names! We are open to all suggestions!show more

🌿 It turns out plants have been talking to... each other for roughly 400 million years, and nobody thought to mention it to us. Here is what happens. A caterpillar lands on a leaf and starts eating. The plant, which has no brain, no mouth, and no real options, does the only thing available to it: releases a cocktail of chemicals into the air. A signal. An alarm. A tiny molecular cry of distress drifting across the garden. The plant next door picks it up. And this is the part that stops you mid-biscuit. That neighboring plant, which has been attacked by nothing, threatened by nothing, bothered by absolutely nothing this Saturday afternoon, quietly begins producing toxins. Just in case. Because the neighbor said so. No language. No sound. No evolutionary reason to trust anyone. And yet there it is. A conversation so old it was already ancient when the dinosaurs showed up and ruined everything. We built cities. We invented Wi-Fi. We wrote symphonies. The begonias have been doing this since before we had thumbs. Gandalv / Gandalvshow more

🌭 Nathan’s Famous: The Immigrant Dream That Became America’s... Iconic Hot Dog 🔥 In 1916, a young Polish-Jewish immigrant named Nathan Handwerker took everything he had — a $300 loan and his wife Ida’s secret spice blend — and opened a tiny hot dog stand on the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island. He sold them for a nickel. Half the price of his former employer, Feltman’s. The risk? Massive. The reward? A legend that’s still sizzling over a century later. Nathan wasn’t just selling food — he was selling trust. To convince skeptical New Yorkers that his cheap “mystery meat” was safe, he hired men in white coats to eat at his stand. Customers assumed they were doctors… and business exploded. By the Great Depression, Nathan’s was feeding the masses. FDR even served them to the King and Queen of England in 1939. The Magic Behind the Snap • All-beef franks (no pork or fillers) with that signature snappy bite. • Ida’s grandmother’s secret spice mix — still closely guarded today. • “Kosher-style” branding that appealed widely without full rabbinical certification. What started as one small grill grew into an empire: supermarkets nationwide, hundreds of locations, and the world-famous Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest every Fourth of July. Legend says the very first contest happened right there in 1916 when four immigrants settled a patriotism debate with franks. Nathan’s isn’t just a brand — it’s the ultimate American street food success story. From a Polish shoemaker’s son sleeping on floors and eating free hot dogs to build savings, to an institution that defines summer in New York. Next time you bite into that juicy dog with mustard and sauerkraut, you’re tasting pure hustle, immigrant grit, and Coney Island magic.show more

Not every hero wears a cape. Some just share... their bread. Created with Seedance 2.0 + GPT Image 2 on OpenArt Prompt: TITLE The Piece of Bread REFERENCE Use the provided combined character sheet and storyboard board as the main visual reference. Follow the same woman design, stray cat design, bread, sidewalk, low wall, cloth shoulder bag, water bottle, warm sunset lighting, and emotional story beats. Keep the woman and cat visually consistent in every shot. Do not add extra characters. Do not change the core story. SUBJECTS Woman: A young woman in her early 20s with shoulder-length slightly messy dark brown hair loosely tied back, a soft oval face, gentle expressive anime eyes, and a tired but kind expression. She wears a faded oversized hoodie, loose trousers, worn sneakers, and carries a simple cloth shoulder bag. She appears hungry, humble, compassionate, and resilient. Her acting should remain subtle, natural, and emotional. Cat: A small original stray cat with short charcoal-gray fur, a cream-colored chest and paws, one ear with a tiny notch, a long curved tail, and expressive anime-style eyes. The cat feels timid, hungry, hopeful, innocent, and lovable. It begins cautious and hungry, then gradually becomes trusting and comforted. Bread: One small round bread bun. This is the central story object. The woman breaks it into two pieces and shares one half with the cat. ENVIRONMENT Quiet city sidewalk at sunset. Low concrete wall behind them. Soft blurred road and distant buildings in the background. A simple cloth shoulder bag and a small water bottle placed beside the woman. Warm golden-hour light with long shadows. Peaceful, lonely, emotional atmosphere. STYLE 2D Japanese anime short film with a hand-drawn aesthetic. Clean inked outlines, flat-to-soft cel shading, simplified shadow blocks, no CG or 3D rendering. Soft emotional storytelling. Warm golden-hour lighting with painterly anime backgrounds. Expressive anime eyes with subtle, believable facial acting. Gentle cinematic movement with a traditional anime animation feel. No 3D render. No CGI. No Pixar-style shading. No photorealism. No comedy. No chaos. No copyrighted characters. No text. No subtitles. No logos. No social media UI. No background music—only natural ambient sound effects. CAMERA 16:9 cinematic framing. Use close-ups and medium shots to emphasize emotion. End with one wide cinematic shot. Slow push-ins and gentle cuts. Shallow depth of field. Keep both characters clear and expressive. Avoid fast movement or exaggerated actions. TIMELINE 0:00–0:02 Extreme close-up. The woman slowly lifts a small bread bun toward her mouth. She is about to take a bite. Warm sunset light softly illuminates her face and hands. Her expression shows hunger, exhaustion, and quiet resilience. She pauses just before eating. SFX: quiet street ambience, soft breathing, gentle hand movement. --- 0:02–0:04 Medium shot from the woman's side. A small stray cat sits a few feet away on the sidewalk. The cat gazes at the bread with sad, hopeful eyes. It remains still, timid, and cautious. The woman notices the cat and slowly lowers the bread. SFX: soft cat meow, light breeze, distant city ambience. --- 0:04–0:06 Close-up of the woman's hands. She slowly breaks the bread into two pieces. Tiny crumbs fall gently. The moment feels like an important emotional decision. Her hands pause briefly after splitting the bread. SFX: soft bread tearing, tiny crumbs falling. --- 0:06–0:08 Medium side shot. The woman gently extends one half of the bread toward the cat. The cat looks at the bread, then into the woman's eyes. It is nervous but curious. The woman gives a soft, reassuring smile and keeps her hand perfectly still. SFX: gentle hand movement, cat sniffing, quiet breeze. --- 0:08–0:10 Low close shot near the cat. The cat slowly steps forward. It carefully takes the bread from the woman's hand. The woman remains calm and gentle. The cat begins eating, and its expression gradually softens into trust. SFX: tiny paw steps, soft bite, gentle chewing. --- 0:10–0:12 Medium shot. The woman sits comfortably on the sidewalk. The cat comes closer and sits beside her. She gently strokes the cat's head. The cat leans into her hand and relaxes. The moment feels warm, peaceful, and safe. SFX: soft fur brushing, content cat purring, distant street ambience. --- 0:12–0:14 Close emotional shot. The cat rests its head on the woman's lap. She looks down with a warm, slightly bittersweet smile. She still holds her own half of the bread in her other hand. Both appear comforted, no longer feeling completely alone. SFX: quiet breathing, soft breeze, distant city sounds. --- 0:14–0:15 Wide sunset shot from behind. The woman and the cat sit side by side facing the glowing sunset. Their long shadows stretch across the sidewalk. The cloth shoulder bag and water bottle rest nearby. The final frame feels peaceful, hopeful, and heartwarming. SFX: soft wind, distant street ambience, gentle satisfied cat purr.
