Early this morning, CAL FIRE sent 15 fire engines,... one Agency Representative, and one mechanic, totaling 53 personnel to Colorado to help support firefighting efforts on the Aspen Acres Fire burning in Custer and Pueblo Counties. These firefighters are expected to assist in Colorado for up to 14 days. This deployment also marks a first for CAL FIRE, as it is the first time we have sent firefighting resources to Colorado through the National Association of State Foresters State-to-State Partnership. “At 6:00 this morning the Fire Department was alerted... to a report of a fire at 2086 Anthony Avenue. We arrived to find heavy fire in two buildings and very quickly transmitted a 2nd alarm. It eventually became a 3rd alarm, bringing more than 40 fire and EMS units and 150 fire and EMS personnel to the scene. We had fire throughout two buildings, and unfortunately, we did have two fatalities,” said Chief of Department John Esposito. “We did unfortunately have a car parked on the closest fire hydrant. We’ve seen that now a couple of times in the last week throughout the City. We all know that we should not be parking on fire hydrants and when you park on fire hydrants, it slows us down. When we’re fighting a fire, seconds count.” The GNY Red Cross and NYC Emergency Management are on scene to assist displaced residents. FDNY Fire Marshals are investigating the cause and origin of the fire.show more

WATCH: Ranchers evacuate nearly 150 cows as the fast-moving... Sinlahekin Fire closes in on the community. The cattle were rushed through the streets of Conconully, Washington, in a dramatic race to safety. “We didn’t hesitate and jumped right in to help,” one resident said after joining ranchers to steer the herd out of danger. The wildfire has now grown to 85,000 acres and remains 0% contained, according to fire officials.show more

Helitack crews serve as highly skilled and productive aerial... firefighting resources. These crews are specially trained in the tactical and logistical use of helicopters for fire suppression, serving as a primary initial attack resource, often first on-scene to assess the wildfire. The U.S. Wildland Fire Service Boise Helitack crew is unique in the sense they are the only Interior-firefighting unit that operates a Type 1 helicopter for helitack operations. They respond to wildfires with a full complement of firefighting tools, 660-gallon water dropping bucket, and 12 firefighters on board – more than any other rotor-wing firefighting asset in the country. Their UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter is one of the most safe, effective, and efficient firefighting aircraft in all wildfire response. Like other wildland fire resources, they respond where they are needed most, supporting wildfire operations across the country.show more

Command of the Hazen Fire has been transferred to... AZDFFM this evening on May 2. The fire is burning in salt cedar in the Gila River bottom to the east of State Highway 85, south of W. Hazen Rd. Current size is estimated at 273 acres and is 0% contained. The east side of the fire is holding along power line road with the north end actively burning. Flame lengths as high as 30 feet have been observed. Resources on scene include engines from multiple fire departments and miscellaneous overhead from DFFM. Additional resources have been ordered to include dozers and Type 2 handcrews. Closures: A road closure is in place on Highway 85. Follow Az and check AZ511 for current updates. Just before 12:30 Monday afternoon, the FDNY responded to... a 4-alarm fire at 44-49 College Point Boulevard in Queens. Tragically, four people lost their lives in this fire. Two other victims were transported to area hospitals in critical condition. During operations, a stairwell collapsed, trapping two of our members. They were transported to area hospitals in stable condition. More than 230 firefighters and EMS personnel responded. “This is a difficult and tragic day. There were several victims in this fire. The Fire Department did an extraordinary job under difficult circumstances, putting this fire out and saving people. I can't thank them enough for their continued efforts and commitment to life safety,” said Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore. “Upon arrival, we had heavy fire on all three floors of this building. There was a victim trapped on the second floor, which our members removed with a portable ladder. As our engine companies were moving in from the first floor and up the stairs to the second floor, the stairs collapsed, and those two members were trapped in the stairs. With additional help, we were able to extricate those members. As all that is happening, other members are performing CPR on the victims in the street,” said Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods. The fire was placed under control just before 2:45 p.m. FDNY Fire Marshals are working to determine the cause of the fire.show more

This deployment showcases the strength and resilience of the California Master Mutual Aid Agreement, and highlights the importance of emergency resource sharing statewide. #mountainfire update; The fire is currently at 20,596 acres... with 7% containment. There are currently 2,420 personnel on scene, including 378 engines, 20 Water Tenders, 34 Hand Crews, 17 Dozers and 14 helicopters. VCFD is in unified command with CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 5 and we are incredibly grateful for the support of our mutual aid partners. Damage assessment teams are in process of identifying and verifying the number of structures that have been impacted. Our thoughts are with all of members of our local Ventura County community through this devastating incident. The fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain with dry and receptive fuels that continue to challenge containment efforts. Fire activity has decreased due to a decrease in winds over the area. A large animal evacuation center has been established at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara. A public information hotline has been established. Affected residents can call 805-465-6650 for assistance. Evacuation orders remain in place. Residents are encouraged to visit for the most current evacuation information. Full suppression tactics are being used, including firing Ops to box the fire in, which also reduces exposure for resources in the steeps. A community meeting will be held tomorrow in Payson to update the local residents on the fire. It is suspected to be human caused and an investigation continues.
