"I tried carnivore for two weeks and felt awful... at the gym." Your body has been running on glucose every three hours for the last thirty years. You then asked it, with five days' notice, to learn a new fuel system. Of course you felt awful. What was actually happening in those two weeks: - Glycogen stores depleting before being replenished from fat and protein - Sodium dropping rapidly without enough replacement - The liver upregulating gluconeogenesis (this takes weeks) - Ketone production ramping up gradually - The whole hormonal cascade recalibrating The transition is uncomfortable. The transition takes 4-6 weeks for most lifters, longer for some. You quit at day twelve and concluded the diet doesn't work. The diet didn't fail. You quit before the adaptation completed. This is like attempting to learn French, giving up after two lessons, and concluding French is impossible to learn. The conclusion is not about the language. It's about the time you gave it. The world just paid $2 trillion for a rocket... company that lost $4.9 billion last year. And the rockets are not why it lost the money. They are the only part making any. SpaceX went public Friday, the largest IPO in history. Up 19%, a $2 trillion valuation, Elon Musk the first trillionaire. Then you open the filing. Three businesses sit inside it. Starlink, the satellites, brought in $11.4 billion, 61% of all revenue, and $4.4 billion in profit. It is the only piece that earns a dollar. The rockets that land themselves run a small loss reinvesting in Starship. And the AI arm, Grok plus the app once called Twitter, folded in this February, lost $6.4 billion in a single year on $12.7 billion of spending. Read that again. The satellites pay for everything. The AI loses more than the satellites make. And the AI is the part the market fell in love with. It gets bolder. The prospectus claims a total market of $28.5 trillion, the largest any company has ever put in a filing. Larger than the GDP of the United States. That is the number underwriting a $2 trillion price tag built on a division bleeding $6 billion a year. Now the structure. About 4% of the company trades. That sliver sets the price for all of it. Musk is locked up for 366 days and holds roughly 80% of the votes. The public bought a company they cannot steer, priced on the one segment losing the most. This is the whole year in one ticker. The profit is satellites. The story is AI. The market bought the story. The rockets were never the risk. The risk is a $2 trillion price resting on the one bet that has yet to make a cent.show more

NEWS: Tesla's fleet has now driven 12 billion miles... on Full Self-Driving The count passed 12 billion this week, just a month after hitting 11 billion on June 9. About 4.5 billion of those miles were on city streets. The pace is speeding up fast. The fleet now adds around 30 million miles a day, up from 14 million a day at the start of the year. Each new billion is arriving quicker than the last. Why this number matters. Elon Musk has said Tesla needs roughly 10 billion miles of real driving data to make self-driving safe enough to run unsupervised. The fleet is now well past that and the data trains the system to handle rare, tricky situations. Tesla's own safety report says cars on FSD have one major crash every 5.3 million miles, versus one every 660,000 for the average US driver. FSD is still a supervised system. The driver has to stay attentive and ready to take over. (Source: Tesla FSD Safety Report, July 17)show more

Obama came to Hampton Roads yesterday to fix a... known problem with Democrats - low black voting turnout for Spanberger. The room was filled with white liberals. While it was a large crowd - the mission was not accomplished. Black voters who were told by Obama last year to vote for Harris based on her race are unpersuaded by the glaring flip flop in this race. Tuesday is going to be a lot closer than the pollsters predict. The rally was a pep rally. Not a GOTV rally. This wasn’t enthusiasm for Spanberger or Jones. It was enthusiasm to see Obama. I think we are going to see something amazing this election - Democrats have lost their grip over black voters to “tell” them who to vote for.show more

❗️🇷🇺 After a meeting with Putin, Russian oligarchs transferred... 220 billion rubles as “donations” for the war. This amount is almost 130 times higher than the planned revenue from such contributions for the entire year (1.7 billion rubles). The reason for these “voluntary contributions” was a closed-door meeting held by Putin with oligarchs on March 26, during which he announced his intention to continue the war against Ukraine and called on business to support it. This is a striking example of how the Kremlin extracts financial resources from big business to sustain the war effort. The scale of the “donations” shows the level of control Putin exerts over the oligarchs and the extent to which the Russian economy is being mobilized for military purposes.
