Trump's tariffs, rather than helping American workers, will raise... prices for household goods by an estimated $1,500 per family annually. Under Biden, despite global pressures, the US achieved the lowest inflation in the G7 in 2023. These tariffs will reverse that progress, hurting the very workers they claim to protect while CEO-to-worker pay remains at a staggering 192:1 in the US. JD Vance just blatantly lied to the people of... Michigan. He claimed that when Trump put tariffs on China, it caused prices to come down for the American people. This is a lie. When Trump put the tariffs on China, China retaliated by doing the same to American goods. The prices of goods did not generally come down for Americans. In fact, the opposite happened in many cases. Tariffs are essentially a tax on imported goods, and when these tariffs were applied to Chinese products, the increased costs were often passed on to American consumers in the form of higher prices. Additionally Trump's tariffs on China had significant negative impacts on American farmers. China's retaliation led to a sharp decline in demand for American farm products from Chinese buyers, which in turn caused a drop in prices and substantial financial losses for American farmers. Trump then gave subsidies to the Farmers in order to try and fix the mess he created.show more

I thought MAGA was so upset about Inflation… -... Walmart CFO John Rainey has just said that new tariffs could force Walmart to raise prices on consumers. - Lowe’s CEO Marvin Ellison has just said Lowes is concerned about the risk of higher costs and is already having conversations with suppliers about tariffs. Question: What is Trump going to do to reduce prices? Don't say "Drill baby drill". That will have very little impact on US prices in the short term as energy is a global market. Inconvenient Truth: Tariffs, as well as deporting 5% of the work force is not going to reduce inflation, but raise it.show more

The Telegraph reports that the US doesn’t have enough... missiles to return to an all-out war on Iran. At the same time, the US’ emergency oil reserve has fallen to its lowest level since 1983. Military force didn’t work against Iran the first time in fulfilling any of the US’ objectives, and now the US has even less military force as Trump tries Round 2 of the same, failed option. Trying military force for a second time will only make Iran more intransigent and unwilling to negotiate… Which will mean that the global economy and the American economy is at an even greater risk as global oil reserves have been spent on artificially keeping oil prices lower. As those reserves run out, that ability evaporates. The blustering stupidity of American neoconservative foreign policy.show more

Tariff revenue is generated when a government imposes a... tax on imported goods and services. Here’s how the process works with a Step-by-Step Breakdown: 1.Tariffs Are Imposed The government sets a tariff rate (e.g., 10%) on specific imported products—like steel, electronics, or textiles. 2.Goods Are Imported When foreign goods enter the country, customs authorities assess the value of those goods. 3.Tariff Is Collected at the Border Importers (usually companies) must pay the tariff before the goods can be released into the domestic market. Example: If a company imports $1 million worth of goods with a 10% tariff, they pay $100,000 in tariff duties. 4.Revenue Goes to the Treasury The money collected is transferred to the government’s general revenue (usually managed by the Department of the Treasury in the U.S.). Key Characteristics of Tariff Revenue ⚠️ Paid by Importers, not directly by foreign governments or exporters ⚠️ ⛔️ Can Raise Prices on imported goods, often passed on to consumers ⛔️show more

In 2024, Russia faced a 13-year record jump in... gas prices after a series of Ukrainian drone attacks on refineries that caused fuel production to collapse by more than 10% in the first half of the year. According to Rosstat, from the beginning of the year to December 23, gasoline prices rose by 11% on average in Russia. At the same time, prices in remote regions of the Far East exceeded the Russian average by a quarter. By the end of the year, gasoline price growth will be the strongest since 2011. For the first time in 6 years, gasoline prices have risen significantly above the headline inflation rate, which the Russian ministry of economic development estimates at 9.7% a week before the end of the year. This year, the Russian government tried to curb gasoline prices by banning its exports: the restrictions were imposed shortly after two dozen major Russian refineries were attacked by Ukrainian UAVs and a number of them were forced to halt production. By the end of May, the decline in gasoline production in Russia reached 20% compared to December 2023, and diesel fuel - 11%. In response, the authorities classified fuel output statistics, citing geopolitics and the threat of market manipulation as reasons. In 2025, gasoline will continue to rise in price in Russia. In the best-case scenario, it will rise by 10-15%, and in the worst case - 20%, which, according to Rosstat, has not happened in Russia since 2004 (when the cost of fuel jumped by a record 31.3%). The reason will be an increase in Transneft's pipeline pumping tariffs, as well as a sharp increase in excise taxes: they will rise 14% for gasoline and 16% for diesel fuel, which is three times more than was provided for in the Tax Code (4.7%). According to government calculations, this will bring 170 billion rubles ($1,6 billion) to the treasury, of which 116 billion ($1,13 billion) will be due to the unscheduled increase. Rising gasoline prices will automatically lead to higher prices for everything else in Russia, as the cost of fuel is included in the delivery of all goods and automatically increases the cost of the end product for the buyer. Inflation in Russia will also increase.show more
