This is real gun camera footage from a P-51... Mustang, chasing a German Bf 109 down to the treetops until it goes down in flames. The American pilot flying it, Lt John Kirla, shot down five enemy planes in a single day, becoming an ace in one mission. This footage captures one of his victories over a Bf 109. This is his story.. From Trainee to the Yoxford Boys John Kirla was not a born fighter ace. He was an ordinary young American who had come up through flight training in Texas, graduating at the start of 1944. He learned his trade on trainers, moved up to fighters, and got just 15 hours in the P-51 Mustang before being sent to England as a replacement pilot. He joined the 362nd Fighter Squadron of the 357th Fighter Group, a unit based at Leiston that was already becoming a legend. The 357th was the first group in the Eighth Air Force fully equipped with the Mustang, and it would go on to produce more aces than any other fighter group in the Eighth, including Chuck Yeager and Bud Anderson. Kirla was the newest pilot in a squadron already filled with experienced aces. His job was to escort American bombers deep into Germany and protect them from the Luftwaffe. On November 27 1944, he got the day that would define him. Five Victories in One Mission That morning the 357th ran headlong into a massive swarm of German fighters trying to get at the bombers. Kirla's flight dropped their fuel tanks and dived straight into the middle of it. Almost immediately, the fight became a swirling, low-level brawl of Mustangs, Messerschmitts, and Focke-Wulfs twisting across the sky. Kirla picked out his first target and opened fire, and from that moment he did not stop hunting. In his own account, he spotted a Bf 109 that was attacking an American bomber. He went after it, closed to just 30 yards, and when the German threw his fighter into a tight barrel roll straight down toward the ground, Kirla stayed glued to his tail and, in his words, clobbered him all over until he went down. An Ace in a Day He kept finding more. Again and again through that wild, sprawling fight, Kirla latched onto an enemy aircraft and did not let go. At one point he watched a German fighter shoot down one of his fellow Mustang pilots right in front of him, and closed in for revenge. As he described it afterward, he opened fire, saw pieces start to fly off the enemy aircraft, and watched it fall out of the sky like a leaf drifting to the ground. Rather than breaking away and climbing back to safety, Kirla chased his targets down low, following them almost to the ground, the fighters weaving over villages and treetops until the enemy aircraft finally went down. By the time the fight was over, John Kirla had shot down five German aircraft in a single mission. He had become an ace in a day, one of the relatively few American fighter pilots to achieve that in a single mission. The Mustang That Changed the Air War The Mustang was the aircraft that made days like Kirla's possible. The P-51 combined long range, high speed, and deadly firepower, and it could follow the bombers all the way to their targets and fight the German fighters on equal or better terms. By the end of the war, P-51 groups had claimed close to 5,000 enemy aircraft shot down, about half of all American air-to-air kills in the European theater. Kirla's own group, the 357th, became the top-scoring Mustang group in the Eighth Air Force. Flying one of the finest escort fighters of the war, men like Kirla helped turn the tide of the air war over Germany. The gun-camera film rolling every time he pressed the trigger captured it all, including the footage you are watching. John Kirla's Legacy John Kirla flew on to the end of his combat tour and finished the war as a double ace, credited with 11 and a half enemy aircraft destroyed in the air. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his courage in the skies over Europe. He had gone from a trainee with a handful of hours in a Mustang to one of the deadliest fighter pilots in one of the deadliest fighter groups of the war, in the span of a single year. The footage of his Mustang chasing a Bf 109 down to the trees is only a few seconds long. But behind those few seconds is a young American who climbed into a fighter, dove into a swarm of the enemy, and shot down five of them before the day was out. This was the story of John Kirla. The best-preserved warship in the world is also one... of the most catastrophic failures in naval history. It sank on its maiden voyage, after sailing barely 1300 meters, in front of thousands of horrified spectators... It is called the Vasa, and it was meant to be the most magnificent warship ever built. Constructed between 1626 and 1628 on the orders of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, it bristled with 64 bronze cannons and was covered, from bow to stern, in hundreds of gilded and painted sculptures of lions, warriors, and mythological figures, all designed to announce the power of the Swedish crown. It was a floating palace built for war. On the 10th of August 1628, the Vasa set sail from Stockholm harbour on a calm day with a light breeze. The gun ports were open, the cannons run out to fire a ceremonial salute. A first gust of wind heeled the ship over, and it slowly righted itself. Then a second gust struck. The ship leaned hard to one side, water poured in through the open lower gun ports, and within minutes the pride of the Swedish navy rolled over and sank, less than a mile from where it had begun. Around 30 people died, in full view of the crowds who had gathered to watch it depart. But the disaster became a miracle: the Vasa sank into the cold, oxygen-poor, low-salt water of the Baltic Sea, where the shipworm that devours wooden wrecks in most of the world's oceans cannot survive. So the ship did not rot. It waited... For 333 years it lay on the harbor floor, almost perfectly intact, until it was raised in 1961. Today, more than 95 percent of what you see is the original seventeenth-century timber. It is the only preserved ship of its century anywhere on Earth. The thing that should have erased the Vasa from history is the very thing that saved it. From December 17th to around the 30th, the migrating speed was over 50,000 to 100,000 per day, but now it has dropped to just over 10,000. What is the reason for this decline? If it was previously possible to migrate over 100,000 per day, why has it changed? The CT has stated that they will OM until the first quarter of this year to bring the migratiion in line with KYC amounts. However, if it's technically feasible to achieve a higher migration speed, why isn’t it being done? The answer is quite simple: it depends on what everyone does with the Pi after such large migration numbers. If pioneers rush to buy and sell, hold onto their Pi coins, or trade at low value, it will impact the speed and efficiency of the next migration in these regions. This principle is not only theoretically valid but has proven true in practice. For instance, countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia have a solid educational foundation in GCV. Most pioneers there are highly aware of the risks involved in participating in the black market, which allows them to generate a substantial amount of GCV data. As a result, their migration speed is notably fast, and there are many large wallet migrated. To help the CT regain momentum, we all need to cooperate. Engage with the migrated Pi and participate in the GCV barter ecosystem. Be cautious of individuals who aim to deceive you for personal gain; devaluing the Pi often serves as a tactic to exchange something small for your valuable treasure. It's crucial to educate pioneers about the true value of what they hold and encourage them to avoid dishonest practices. I urge everyone to actively participate in partial Pi and partial FIAT barter. The more GCV data we generate, the more secure our wallets will be. Hello Hugh Thomas , let’s do it one by... one, sample by sample, stone by stone. Whenever an artificial stone recipe of mine reaches a certain stage that’s the results are comparable to the natural version I’ll send a cast sample to you (with its mold) to analyze. The first one could be this perfectly chiseled fake limestone cube. As you can see you can’t fit a razor blade between the stone and the cheap silicone mold from Temu. This proves my micro chiseling skills. The recipe is public, you don’t even need my cube, you could create your own - but you won’t. So I’ll send this cute cube to you. The “secret” recipe is: I started from wood ash lye, also called potash, or K2CO3, by slowly dripping water through hard wood ash. Hard wood ash from your fireplace, yeah. Then I added slaked lime, and the chemical reaction produced fine, molecular level CaCO3 particles, fine limestone floating in the liquid. FYI: the secret chemical reaction is, and was in the ancient times as well: K2CO3 + Ca(OH)2 = CaCO3 + 2KOH Yummy! Next step: I let the limestone particles settle, and poured the KOH, potassium hydroxide solution above (that also formed in the liquid, see above) into the kitchen sink as it is a very good drain cleaner indeed. I added water and poured it into the sink several times, trying to clean the slurry from the KOH. So yes, the cube is from almost pure limestone, CaCO3 - with some residual KOH contamination. The KOH contamination can be reduced infinitely, I just stopped after 4 rounds. (Pro tip: put the slurry into a filter bag and put the bag into a mountain creek for an hour.) The next step is filtering and pressing the remaining liquid from the slurry. Because it’s a wet mess at this point. Pressure is a key factor to success! At least one thing is accurate from the universal canon: no pressure-no stone. How do I know? By trying and failing a few (dozen) times. So I poured the white limestone slurry into a sock 🧦 and pressed and squeezed it by hand - and that was JUST enough pressure for the magic to happen 😮 It looks like nature/god is on our side, everything is working as it was designed this way. Then I put the almost dry limestone paste into this Temu mold. Fun fact: it still contains a lot of water which will eventually be pressed out as the crystallization progresses, so we’ll need to get rid of that water through a hole, a nub. But there is no hole 🕳️ on this Temu mold so I poured the excess liquid from the top a few times. Hardening time=drying time=crystallization time : 1 week. The important lesson I learned from this experience is as follows: I tried to understand why this sludge turned into hard stone, because, as we were told, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE, and my understanding is this: wood ash lye does two different magics in parallel for this to happen: 1. It magically contains the right kind of contamination to facilitate calcite crystal formation and 2. The incredibly high pH (remember, 2 molecules of KOH are produced from 1 molecule of K2CO3!) in the liquid boost the calcite formation even more. ———- My only request from you and your colleagues concerning this analysis is full, 100000% transparency. And be honest. I know something you clearly don’t: you have lost this battle already. We need the data fast, not in 4 years or something. Transparency means sharing whatever you find here on X, without scientific drama and pullbacks. We don’t need a 947 pages scientific paper. We need the results, the data only. PERP DEXs & This Week Let’s take a quick... look at what’s happening in perp DEXs this week: RISEx plans to move to mainnet after a reward-based testnet competition on its own chain. The project will launch with limited access codes, so I recommend trying to get one. A major new player is about to enter the perp DEX market! Reya’s trading competition ends tomorrow. The team has also launched a new ambassador program. We’re getting closer to TGE on Reya. Miracle has integrated Nado into the system. After HL and Extended, this is the 3rd perp DEX added. Hibachi launched its first vault. GAV is currently yielding 35%. They surpassed 200k TVL in a short time. One of the most underrated perp DEXs. Pacifica is offering a 50% fee discount on RWA products until March 31. It’s actually quite easy to earn points from OI. On Paradex, fiddy.dime - priv/acc 🦡’s “price shame” is getting worse. The project sits at only a $5M mcap and $26M FDV. Lighter’s $LIT is now below $1. Their “genius” CEO still doesn’t understand that a project is nothing without its community. After TGE, they tried to dump on loyal holders who supported the project for over a year and forced them out with price pressure. Many OGs left. Now he can buy his trash coin at whatever price he wants. Good for him. edgeX🦭 will have its TGE on March 31. Hopefully it will be a good one and set a positive example for the perp DEX market. Nado has a strong following. I sold my NFT. If they allocate only ~8% to the community, it could cause serious backlash. Hotstuff — I’m not in, but White Rabbit is farming it. They launched a new builder program. Last week, 2,359 users received points. Still relatively low participation. There are constant competitions — including trips to Thailand and other rewards. But pairs are still limited. HelloTrade is still stuck in whitelist phase. Extended is one of the projects managing its process well. If they execute a clean TGE, it could set a strong example.
