Fire with LACoFD in Unified Command have officially closed the Wrightwood Storms incident after confirming there are no ongoing life safety threats and favorable weather is predicted for the future. Fire crews worked throughout the day to assess impacted areas, confirm the safety of the residents, and provided help to transition from response to recovery. Fire Station 14 in Wrightwood, is fully staffed and remains ready to respond to any call for service within the community. We are still pleased to report that only one injury was reported during this event. San Bernardino County Fire and CAL FIRE Partner on... Front Country Fuel Reduction Project SAN BERNARDINO, CA — The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, assisted by CAL FIRE, began Phase 1 of the North San Bernardino Front Country Fuel Reduction Project. This proactive wildfire mitigation effort is designed to reduce fire risk and improve protection for communities along the northern edge of the City of San Bernardino. The project will establish a 50-foot-wide fuel break extending approximately one mile from Highway 18 west to Devils Canyon. Crews will be removing vegetation and reducing available fuels that could contribute to wildfire growth and spread. Historically, several significant wildfires have originated in this area and threatened homes and neighborhoods throughout North San Bernardino. The construction of this fuel break will help slow the spread of future wildfires, improve firefighter access, and provide an additional layer of protection for residents and property. Work on the project is expected to take approximately one to two weeks to complete. Residents may see firefighting personnel, equipment, and vegetation removal operations occurring throughout the project area during this time. Montana: Beaverhead County Sheriff has issued a GO NOW... evacuation order for Elkhorn Hotsprings and Maverick Mountain, including all communities south to Shale Creek and Clark Creek on the north end of Grasshopper Valley due to increased activity on the Sand Creek and Bobcat Lakes Fires. Both are burning on the Beaverhead Deerlodge National Forest; the Sand Creek is now 8,900 acres, and the Bobcat Lakes is 5,513 acres. UPDATE: WASHOE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE LOCATES WALKAWAY INMATE FOLLOWING... COORDINATED SEARCH EFFORT The Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) has successfully located and taken 23-year-old Chase Orput back into custody following a coordinated search after he walked away from a Washoe County Sheriff's Office inmate work crew on Monday, July 27, at approximately 1:30 p.m. On Tuesday, July 28, at approximately 1:00 p.m., deputies located Orput near Interstate 80 and the railroad tracks in the area of mile marker 21 after a citizen from a nearby business recognized him and promptly contacted the Sparks Police Department (SPD). The information provided helped direct SPD officers and WCSO deputies to his location. The SPD further assisted by deploying a drone to provide aerial support during the search, allowing WCSO deputies and Sparks Police officers on the ground to quickly locate and safely take Orput into custody. Orput was evaluated and provided medical care at the scene before being transported back to the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he will face additional escape charges. Orput was serving a 90-day sentence for misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to show or maintain proof of insurance. The WCSO extends its sincere appreciation to our regional law enforcement partners for their partnership and assistance throughout the search effort. The coordinated response between agencies, combined with the vigilance of a community member who reported the sighting, was instrumental in bringing the incident to a safe and successful conclusion. "We are grateful for the partnership and support provided by the Storey County Sheriff's Office and the Sparks Police Department throughout this search," said Sheriff Darin Balaam. For three long days, a pregnant Gangetic dolphin fought... for survival after getting trapped in a fast-flowing canal in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district. The 7.2-foot-long, 147-kg dolphin had been swept into the Paratawal canal during heavy rains. An initial rescue attempt failed, but the teams refused to give up. On Monday, the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department, Gorakhpur Zoo, TSA Foundation, the Irrigation Department, Uttar Pradesh Police, and the Namami Gange Gangetic Dolphin Rescue Ambulance came together for a second rescue mission. To ensure she reached safety without delay, authorities created a 20-km green corridor from Bhatkhat to Rajghat. The rescue ambulance then covered 52 km in just 1 hour and 5 minutes before releasing her safely into the Rapti River.
