This. Is. Not. OK. Republican Congressman Eli Crane from... Arizona called black people “Colored people” on the House floor yesterday. Crane specifically said, “Mr. Chairman, that was unbelievably inspiring, my amendment has nothing to do with whether or not colored people or black people or anybody can serve. Okay? It has nothing to do with colors of your skin — any of that stuff.” Democrat Congresswoman Joyce Beatty then interjected and asked that Crane’s use of the words “colored people” be stricken from the record. She said “I find it offensive and very inappropriate,” before continuing “I am asking for unanimous consent to take down the words of referring to me or any of my colleague as ‘colored people.’ What causes this? It was obviously a slip-up, but people who slip up like this do so for a reason.
