Sometimes if feels naive to be posting about bees amongst the rancid, the depraved, the violence, the lies, the evil, the soulless, the demise of humanity…but maybe we represent for the decent, the innocent, the underdogs, the gentle…or maybe we’re just naive…yeah just naive…

#theBeeAt3 Basic bee facts every day at 3pm. # 249 In 2013 and 2014 observations confirmed that 2 species of bumblebee - Red Tailed and Buff-Tailed - had expanded their range to within the Arctic Circle. Researchers suggest global warming as the likely influencing factor. #bees

Spoiler Alert! Quick version: Queens just out of hibernation. Hungry and house-hunting. Rest often between flights. Don’t move or help for an hour unless in immediate danger! Flowers best option. 50/50 white sugar/water next best option - NOT HONEY! Don’t bring her inside. 2/9

As with sleeping dogs leave resting #bumblebees lie - for up to an hour before intervening. (Unless of course she is in imminent danger whereby she should be carefully moved to a safe place). However if after about an hour she is still present then she may need assistance. 6/9

In this case preference is to move her to a nearby source of #nectar - a #flower! If no flowers are nearby she can be offered a 50/50 mix of white sugar &amp; water. NEVER offer her honey as although it would seem to be the obvious action honey can contain pathogens that may… 7/9

Please note: All #bees in these clips were immediately rescued and survived. Rescue was delayed for less than a minute to record their plight to make more people aware of this issue. Whilst we concentrate on bees here all #insects should be shown the same consideration. 11/11 🙏🏼

…you provide #water for the #wildlife and bees in your garden/yard. It is important though that this water is supplied in a manner that is safe for #bees. #bees can’t lift off when they land in water and their wings get wet. They need to be able to climb onto something… 6/11

At the top end of the sanctuary we have a right of way along a neighbouring field to the road that runs through the local village. We walk our youngest to school this way. The field was sprayed a number of weeks back to ‘prepare’ the ground for ploughing, harrowing etc. 1/5

Bumblebees don’t understand glass - they get confused and trapped and exhausted. And they die. Likewise with polytunnel plastic. So if you see or hear a #bumblebee buzzing and banging against a window in your house SHE NEEDS YOUR HELP - AND QUICKLY! She’s in trouble. 2/11
