Has Catching instruction ever been worse? Everyone is teaching the #1knee🗑️ style and yanking the glove to make every pitch look like it was down the middle. It’s really bad and if the Robot Strike Zone is eventually implemented all this training will have been worthless. It’s fascinating to me how the average fan can watch MLB catchers and say they are better from the #1Knee🗑️ stance. They clearly aren’t. Why would all the MLB teams be doing it if it wasn’t the best way? Answer… They have been brainwashed into thinking that stealing strikes is more important than controlling the running game or blocking. Shea Langeliers was the best catcher in the country coming out of college. He has a great arm and no one even tried running on him in college. In the Minor League Baseball he threw out 34% of potential base stealers. He got to Athletics and they put him on a knee to steal strikes. In 2025 he is throwing out 7%. Jonah Heim is another example. Jonah also has a great arm and threw out 36% of base stealers in the Minor League Baseball but he got to Texas Rangers and they put him on a knee, against his will, to steal strikes. In 2024 he allowed 98 SB with only 14 CS or 13%. MLB catchers aren’t catching on 1 knee because it’s the best way. They are catching on 1 knee because they have been forced to by their organizations who believe that stealing strikes outweighs controlling the running game and blocking.
