The newly formed ‘Kings Party’-nicknamed #NCP has outdone even #BNP in extortion! A widely circulated video on social media clearly shows Imamur Rashid Iman, a central member of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), receiving 700,000 taka in cash from a woman. In the video, Iman is heard saying, “We had agreed on 1 million taka with my brother, but you’ve given 700,000.” The victim is a small-scale entrepreneur. NCP leaders allegedly took nearly 4.8 million taka from her over time, promising her work in various government and private projects. However, no work or projects were ever delivered to her. Is this what they call a “new kind of politics”? Or is it just an upgraded version of old-school extortion-based politics? This incident makes it clear: the NCP is simply walking the same deceitful path under a new political disguise. And it is with the hopes, dreams, and hard-earned money of ordinary citizens that this empire of extortion is being built.
