The Longues-sur-Mer battery in Normandy was located near the landing beaches. It was just completed before DDay and consisted of 4 casemates with 150mm naval guns. The battery was bombed and shelled during DDay, but was able to fire over 100 shots. Captured on June 7 1944 #DDay81

On this day in 1944 Dutch gunboat HNLMS Flores was one of the ships that shelled the German positions on Gold Beach. Within 90 minutes she fired 154 shells with her 150mm guns. With this intense fire, she neutralized the guns of the battery of Arromanches-les-Bains.🇳🇱 #DDay81
