Al-Shabab’s Radio Andalus, in a recent interview, featured the suicide bomber behind the attack on Godka Jilicow prison complex manned by NISA. The attacker, from the Reer Xaaji Saleeban subclan of Habargidir, said he joined Al-Shabaab in 2013 in Cadaado #Galmudug state. In the interview, he claimed to have seen a dream showing the vehicle he would use for the attack and the soldiers who would assist him. The bomber, Abdifatah Bashir Hashi, was last seen driving a government spray-painted NISA military truck and managed to pass through multiple checkpoints in Mogadishu for 2 hours without being searched before reaching his target. Speculation has since emerged that NISA may have facilitated the attack, which resulted in the escape of several Al-Shabaab prisoners. There are also growing claims that the current NISA intelligence chief, Mahad Salad responsible for Mogadishu’s security may have links to Al-Shabaab through tribal networks.
