The footage reveals officers repeatedly punching Brooks in the face, chest, and groin during the 15-minute assault. One officer struck him in the stomach with a shoe, while another grabbed him by the neck and slammed him back onto the table. The officers’ body cameras were not activated during the incident, leaving the footage without audio. Preliminary autopsy findings suggest Brooks may have died from asphyxia caused by neck compression. In response, 13 corrections officers and a nurse involved in the attack face termination. Governor #KathyHochul called the footage “outrageous and horrifying,” while James vowed to hold those responsible accountable. The state’s correctional officers union condemned the attack, calling it “unfathomable” and not reflective of its members. Attorney General #LetitiaJames on Friday released body camera footage from four corrections officers involved in an incident that led to the death of #RobertBrooks. One officer has resigned and 13 have been suspended without pay. I am very angry bcuz I sick and tired of our black men being brutalized by these white boys in these jails. Let me say this…I fully understand how serious his initial crime was in 2016. I also understand that he had been in custody since 2017! I also read that he has a family that cares for him…he was still loved and I will NEVER forget what my mother always said, “Everybody is somebody’s child”, and his mother had to watch that. However, this man was in custody and during this transport He was handcuffed!!! They actually shoved a white towel down his throat…this is ONLY an excerpt and FOURTEEN officers have been associated with this situation!!! New York Governor #KathyHochul was totally appalled at this grotesque treatment…EVERYONE HAS BEEN SICKENED, BUT HOW LONG WILL THIS CONTINUE??????????? It has ALREADY BEEN TOO DAMN LONG… Sheriff #CraigDumond state, "No human being should be treated that way by another human being. And it is made even worse by the fact that the extreme cruelty was inflicted by those entrusted with the power of government, against those they were entrusted to guard and protect."

Trigger Warning (also note: video has no sound) #RobertBrooks, an incarcerated and handcuffed Black man died after being brutally beaten: repeatedly punched and kicked in the face, chest, and groin by the corrections officers at the Marcy Correctional Facility in central New York. What stopped me was when the white officer picked up his foot and kicked him in the chest - this is sickening and this is and has always been America. I know that the spotlight has moved on from the #BlackLivesMatter movement BUT our cries for justice in policing are still needed and necessary. **And before you start asking what He did and why He was in handcuffs, just shut up and watch a man in handcuffs, who is compliant, get beaten to death.
