Yesterday Jeremiah Hayes of South Peoria Baptist Church, Peoria, Arizona introduced the following. Today he was not allowed to bring his resolution to the floor. #SBC26 “I moved that the messenger of the 2026 Southern Baptist Convention ask the convention to set a standard for the music and songs that are used for the purpose of worship during the annual convention meetings, specifically, but not limited to, not using any music or song that would profit, promote any person’s entities or churches that preach, teach, or anyway promote a false gospel.”

This is an opportunity for the Southern Baptist Convention to speak in truth and unity in conviction consistent with our confession. There’s a great line that divides liberal and biblical evangelicalism, and you can see it on this very issue. The trajectory of liberal denominations is clear: the Southern Baptist Convention in adopting the Baptist Faith and Message in the year 2000 stated confession that the office of Pastor is limited to men as qualified by scripture. Subsequent years have demonstrated that we need constitutional clarity on this issue. This will allow the Southern Baptist Convention to move forward in unity and in truth, and I believe the Lord has brought us together in Orlando, Florida, to do just that.” Seminary President Al Mohler was the first person at a floor mic to introduce a motion. It was the proposed amendment to the SBC Constitution limited the pastorate to men only. The motion goes to the Committee on the Order of Business, which is likely to bring it for a vote on Wednesday. He also moved to suspend Rule 6, allowing a first vote this year. An earlier motion to raise the required majority on suspending Rule 6 to two-thirds failed. Response from the floor was that the move was a preemptive strike to prevent an early vote on the Mohler Amendment.

It was a tale of two messengers regarding Resolution 10 at #SBC26 (condemning antisemitism). First, an ethnically Jewish man got up and vomited out a laundry list of how victimized he is, as a Jew. It’s quite the ethnic affinity group he’s got cooking. But then, a young lady got on the microphone and demonstrated that yes indeed, the kids are all right. The younger generation coming up is not beholden to Zionism and Dispensationalism. The Baptist boomers (both younger and older) have no idea what’s coming.
