.Scott Jennings at 1005pm Eastern on the #WHCD shooting: "You know, I saw a post from Congressman Jared Moskowitz, a Democrat from Florida who said that when this happened, it was Steve Scalise, the House Republican Majority Leader, who grabbed him and threw him into a secure location. Of course, Steve Scalise himself was shot, years ago in the congressional baseball game. One other thing that I think should be noted, the Secret Service is an agency that exists in the Department of Homeland Security, which has been shut down and not funded for 70+ days. So, when I think about watching these Secret Service agents and their heroism and what they have to do, they're currently working in an agency that, you know, for many, many, many weeks now has not been taken care of. So, I suspect members of Congress are going to have to confront that. And it started this past week. But but that's got to get fixed."

CNN's Van Jones says he fears there will be a portion of America that will seek to lionize the #WHCD shooter in much the same way Luigi Mangione has.... "Well, I thought the President did well. I'm starting to worry about something, though, which is that the shooter survived, which means on Monday, he's going to court, which means there is a danger that people try to make him some sort of hero. You watch what happened with Luigi, who shot a CEO to death, and somehow became a hero. So, they said, tonight you saw the worst of America. You saw the best of America. Tonight, you definitely saw the best of America. I hope on Monday, we don't see the worst. Again, this I just want to say very clearly, this kind of despicable behavior has no place in America. It has no place on the right. It has no place on the left. We don't know if he was there because he wanted to hurt Democrats or Republicans. Both were there. We don't know if he wanted to hurt journalists or politicians. Both were there. This kind of behavior has no place in America, and it is -- it is wrong. Violence is not the way to resolve any grievances, and this cheerleader culture for violence, for people who think that the answer to our problems is to go shooting billionaires, or going to synagogues, or all these different things, has to be called out immediately. The minute it starts, every single person with a platform must denounce it, or we're going to see this again."

.Alex Thompson: "President Biden's decline and its coverup by the people around him is a reminder that every White House regardless of party is capable of deception...We, myself included, missed a lot of this story and some people trust us less because of it." #whcd #nerdprom

CNN's SE Cupp, chronically miserable and stricken with TDS, on the #WHCD, says "Trump wants us dead, figuratively"... "[The WHCA] made it real easy for him to attend. And I, you know, glad to see everyone's in great spirits. And this is a party. I'm real bummed. Real bummed about tonight. because here's what's happening tonight. Journalism is throwing a party. Journalism is celebrating journalism at this party. Journalism, for some reason, invited Brendan Carr, FCC chair, who is threatening to revoke the licenses of broadcast networks. Pete Hegseth, who removed journalists from the Pentagon, and Donald Trump, who attacks us on the regular. Now, they're giving Donald Trump a speaking position to roast us to our faces for an hour. And he doesn't have to stay for the part where we celebrate journalism and give out awards to journalists and talk about the importance of free speech. And here's the kicker: we broadcast it on national TV. He could not have planned this scenario better. And guess what? He didn't. We did. Journalism planned this scenario for Donald Trump. So, if I'm Donald Trump, of course, I come under these conditions. And you just heard Brian Stelter say that the correspondents association was trying to sort of mend some fences with a guy who wants us dead, figuratively, figuratively. He wants journalism dead. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I don't think this is a great night for journalism. It's a night that's meant to be celebrating it, but I think it's a real bummer."

.Brian Stelter at 838 pm Eastern inside the #WHCD: "Hey, John. I'm going to be honest. Nobody knows what's going on. But you'll see there are people literally hiding under tables inside the ballroom of the Washington. We have seen many different security officers, some of them climbing over the chairs in order to get through this room. There are some people starting to stand up. I see some people walking out. You can see this is the center of the ballroom, the center hall, people walking out, this commotion happened very suddenly, people dropping to the ground, some still hiding behind tables, some chairs, and people now getting up. One person injured, it appears, limping with a, you know, something on his leg, maybe from the commotion. Okay. The people that were very shocked as they were falling to the ground, trying to seek shelter under the tables. John."

.Scott Jennings on the level of security that accompanied most of the presidential line of succession that were in attendance for the #WHCD when the shooting broke out.... "A lot of important people. And I just think these people are all guarded by people. Secret Service cabinet officers have their own protection. The Capitol Police protect the people from the legislative branch. You got a number of different -- you got D.C. Police, got a number of different law enforcement people here. And look, you know, at the end of the day, the shooter is in custody. And we'll learn details. But these are -- these are brave people because they are guarding people that are constantly under threat. They're going to these major events, thousands of people are around. You know, it's a little wild out there. And -- and so, I just think I just wanted to say, thank God for these law enforcement personnel because what they do to put their lives on the line to protect the continuity of our government and events like this, we should be proud that they serve our country and our -- and our government the way they do."

WATCH: Scott Jennings on President Trump's remarks about the #WHCD shooting... "I couldn't agree more with you, Van. And also anybody who attempts to rationalize it. You know, I think in the wake of some of these things, you get people who are saying, well, you know, you could see how someone might feel a certain -- no, no, there's no place for rationalization of it, encouragement of it, coddling of it. I couldn't agree with you more. That's well stated. I think on the President's press conference, extremely well handled, extremely responsible, perfect tone. And you know what I liked about what I'm seeing? You got the President there, and he's usually jousting with the media, very respectful of Weijia Jiang, very respectful of the press that was in the room. They were respectful of him because they had just gone through something together, together. And -- and all of them very complimentary of law enforcement. So, you think about all the different elements of our government and society that were in the room, political leaders, media, law enforcement, other important people. I mean, they all occupy different corners of our political affairs. And yet look how quickly they got information to the public. Look at the tone they were using with each other. Look at the -- the details that we now have. We're under control here, and -- and different layers of government, federal, local, the mayor, and that press. So, I don't know. It was a terrible thing that happened, and then I saw a whole bunch of people do exactly the right thing in the right way, with the right tone, and that ought to make us feel good as Americans and locals here.
