10 days ago, Ron DeSantis ordered license plate readers removed from state roads. Now Hillsborough County has cellular trail cameras watching people inside a taxpayer-funded nature preserve. The cameras aren’t there for wildlife. The same preserve is being heavily sprayed with glyphosate.

@GovRonDeSantis I can actually answer this. Gulf Hammock has game cameras everywhere. They've been used to catch the trucks & dirt bikes tearing up the trails & poachers. Unfortunately, it happens a lot, particularly when the kids are out of school

Flock cameras removed from Syracuse city property are being replaced by Axon -------------------------- They are presenting information as though Flock has problems that Axon does not. Cars and people are still being scanned and put into databases. The right to privacy is being violated. This representative talks as if people knowing "what's happening when their faces and license plates are scanned" somehow makes it ok. It's very odd that they would think that people who wanted Flock cameras removed would be ok with Axon cameras that do the same thing.

Today, I am urging our Commission to prohibit the use of Flock cameras and similar devices in our County. For those of you who don't know, these cameras, technically called Automated License Plate Readers, are motion activated and take a picture of every car which passes by. While License Plate Readers have been around for a while, because of AI and vastly increased networking and data retention capacities, these Flock cameras have capabilities not even imagined in the past. Older cameras only took a photo of your license plate, which was then retained for a short time. Flock cameras take a photo of your place, but also use AI to catalogue distinguishing features of your vehicle: make, color, model, even bumper stickers. That data is stored in a searchable database for sometimes up to a month or more, depending on the policies of that particular agency. When these cameras are deployed in large numbers, they create a network that can be used to track your movements. Currently, there is no federal regulatory framework governing these devices in place, and the Tennessee laws regulating them were written over a decade ago. My fear is that may be inadvertantly creating a warrantless mass surveillance system and undermining the privacy and Liberty of our people. So I urge the Tennessee General Assembly and the United States Congress to look at this issue and take neccessary action to safeguard our privacy and civil liberties as these new technologies continue to emerge. If the man who made his fortune recording your license plate changes his own every day to preserve his privacy, then what does that tell you about the value of privacy itself?” “The reality is, the evidence that Flock prevents crime is nonexistent. Cities that have been covered in Flock cameras saw the same crime reduction as cities with none, because crime fell nationwide everywhere at the same time. Flock simply stood in front of a falling curve it didn't cause and called it proof” The data being referenced is from Council on Criminal Justice and it shows crime days through 2025 - Nationwide crime days showed a 36% decline since 2021 - Houston Texas which is heavily saturated with flock only saw a 36% reduction in crime during this same time period Meaning the crime rate fell at the same rate whether there were flock cameras or not Keep in mind there are 3,800 flock cameras in the Houston area so you would logically expect the decline in crime to be much greater, but homicides only fell at the national average
